Many thanks for all of the information My brother in law recently found me the complete Commodore Vol1 series as MP3's from a torrent site. He knew of my interest in the label & downloaded it. I was a bit wary but had a listen anyway - what a waste!! - all of the files appear corrupted - track times varied greatly from the ones you gave Chuck. If this series was officially released in digital format, I would snap it up at a moment's notice.

Can anyone help me with the track timings for the two Chu Berry sessions (Nov 10, 1938 & Aug 28, 1941) from the first Commodore box (123) There were also two titles (original 78 release versions) on box 134 (Monday At Mintons & Blowin' Up A Breeze) that were omitted from box 123 I'm trying to sort these two sessions out, especially the August one - are there actually 5 versions of Blowin' Up A Breeze? There was a thread about this back in 2009

Wolfgang's vault has Coltrane at Newport '66!

The Free Factory version sounds like an audience tape with abysmal quality (according to reviews on Amazon - I havn't actually heard this recording) whereas the WV's version is much better quality (VOA recording?) -

Stan Getz Quintets: The Clef & Norgran Studio Albums
romualdo replied to crisp's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Chuck, Did you get a response from them yet? Here is the response: Dear Customer: You have reached the Online Customer Service Department for questions regarding internet orders and questions related to the online store. We are sorry but we do not have replacements for this this item. You will need to contact Amazon to arrange an exchange of your items. Sincerely, Online Customer Support That response doesn't address the issue, they don't say anything about the error itself and whether it has been/will be corrected. Looks like we're going to have to live with it. Amazon's got nothing to do with the correction of the error, of course. I wonder if Mosaic have sorted this problem out for the upcoming vinyl release? -
Has all of Don's Vogue output been released on CD? So far I have found "Lover Man" (1993 release) & the Black Digipak late 90's release (with Mary Lou Williams) The 4 CD compilation Moon Nocturne also has a number of vogue titles (x10 from Nov 51 & Feb 52). The Lord Discography mentions a CD "Tenderly" 655620 but I havn't been able to track that one down so far (not listed on any Amazon site & ebay recently) The Spanish havn't attempted a complete release yet - they did release a 4CD(?) set of his American Recordings (OOP at present). Any help would be most welcome Generally there appears to be quite a paucity of his material doing the rounds in the digital format

One of my favourites is the Baker/Twardzik Barclay session(s) recorded in Paris (Oct 55) - these were leased by Pacific Jazz & most titles released on the PJ LP Chet Baker In Europe (1218) Universal France released this in 2003 in its original cover design; it's also in the big Baker Barclay box (excuse the alliteration) IMHO any of the Baker/Twardzik recordings (live or studio) are worth picking up CB/DT - The Lost Holland Concert - RLR 88621 CB/DT - Koln Concert - RLR 88618 CB/DT - Indian Summer - Dutch Jazz Archives 901665 Lars Gullin featuring CB - Vol. 1 (55/56) - Dragon 224 regarding the "The Thrill Is Gone" confusion, I've sent an email to James Harrod who is currently in the process of writing a book on the PJ label.

Stan Getz Quintets: The Clef & Norgran Studio Albums
romualdo replied to crisp's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Still waiting for my set to arrive... #1 is a minor issue, but #2 and #3 sound rather annoying to me! Too bad if it's so (not doubting your findings!) - quality control costs too much in these cheapo times of ours, I assume... I didn't buy this set yet but according to the tracklisting on Amazon "I don't mean a thing" is on disc 2 track 9 and on disc 3 track 1. Also according to to Amazon (fwiw) the playingtime of Flamingo on the Quintet set is 7:25 and on At the Shrine 8:34. If it's the studio version with applause it's annoying if it's the Shrine version it's als annoying. You still need the Poll Winners edition of 'At The Shrine', wich has both versions, of Flamingo to be complete. I've just had a listen to the two versions 1. Shrine Version on the recent Verve Originals CD (runs @ 8:34) -> has the Duke intro & Stan talking at the end of the track 2. Studio version on the 2002 Verve LPR CD "SG & The Cool Sounds" (runs @ 7:37) - no applause or intros & shorter time BTW the "Cool Sounds" CD contains 6 titles (out of 10) that are also on this new 3CD set Is this track on this set a hybrid of the two? or just a shorter version of the live track. That would be a bummer if the live track has been erroneously inserted -
pm sent on the three beefheart CD's

Great lineup for the 2011 Melbourne Jazz Festival this year Sonny Rollins, Lee Konitz, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Norma Winstone, Jason Moran, Ron Carter, Sun Ra Arkestra (also doing a masterclass) plus German avant rockers Faust and many others looks like I'm going to have to make the 2000km trek from Brisbane for the week (early June)

I just ordered one via Amazon UK - landed it here in Australia for approx 17 Aussie dollars Amazon UK has an offer on free shipping to Aust/NZ till May if you order £25 or more Also the actual listed price (£12.99) is reduced (by approx 16%) as VAT is removed - I've been buying lots of material this way since this shipping deal was instituted Also a good way to get the Stan Getz quintet box (comes down to £27 with free shipping) - OOS at present though -

The set is available from Amazon Marketplace sellers on all the Amazon sites I've visited (U.S., U.K., Germany, France), but the prices are pretty high. I've seen the prices on amazon - a bit out of my range Trying the Greg Drusdow lead Many thanks for the contact have sent Greg an email - we'll see what happens I wonder if it is possible to contact Danny Thompson? -
This set was released in 2007 & must have sold out quickly (was looking for it in 2009 without success) I know it's a long shot but anyone out there with copy they are prepared to part with PM me if interested in parting with this

Just noticed this on ebay while doing a random search for Joe Harriott http://cgi.ebay.com/MJQ-Live-Joe-Harriott-Ronnie-Ross-2-UNISSUED-CDs-/140512155681?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item20b72d5821#ht_500wt_1156 I've just been reading about this in Harriott's book (Fire In His Soul) - this concert is discussed There is a bit of live material (with Harriott) stored in the British Library Sound Archive (BLSA) - wonder if this is from there or is it a private recording Any comments on this recording? Found the sound library site & tried to navigate it but was unable to find any of these recordings from the late 50's early 60's Can you download from theBLSA?

Thanks all for the info - much appreciated I should have got an idea from the label title!!

In the very earl 60's Mal Waldron released a truckload (more than 10?) of LP's on the Music Minus One Label. What's the story behind this - record & track titles suggest easy listening jazz - was it a budget enterprise? I'm sure none of this material has ever been near the commercial digital domain
-
Found 3 threads on the Avid label and merged them to keep all info and opinions in one place. Thanks Hans

I've picked up a few of these over the past year or so (O'Day, Cohn, Sims, Hodges) Helped out on some of the Mosaic sets I missed out on I'm happy with the sound but I can't tell if they are needle drops - I'm sure they must be or possibly have sourced other CD's (Japanese or Mosaics?) AVID appears to be a UK outfit similar to the Spanish (dubious source material using the 50 year copyright law) There have been previous threads on this (I think I commenced one)

CD's made it to Australia - all safe & sound Thanks again
-
I have the Ayler DIW CD The First Recordings, Vol 2 - this is an awful needle drop job & the LP it's been transferred from is littered with pops/cracks etc. Was disappointed when I got this one!!
-
I have the Prevue CD version (PR4- released 1998) Cover is the same as above Prevue "A Division of Classic Records" (© 1998) under licence from Xanadu Records Ltd (1959, 1975) I'm quite sure this is a legit release - certainly doesn't sound like a needle drop
-
I'd have to agree - trios & quartets, some with Fred Anderson & some with Ken Vandermark pm sent on Koglmann/Konitz - Duke & Mengelberg - Chicago
