  4. I was able to score the box through a trade with a fellow board member. Eagerly looking forward to hearing this box!
  5. Anybody else dig it how, on "J.O.S.," Mogie plays right through Jimmy's "signal" to stop soloing?!?!? Ooooowhee, I would've loved to hear the shoutin' that took place after THAT take!
  6. Amen to that!!! All of this and no Phil Schapp! Or so I thought, anyway; I don’t know who this guy is yakkin’ right now, but he’s been going on for about ten minutes now. Shut up and play the music, fercryinoutloud!!!! EDIT: The guy's name is Ben Young. Following in Schapp's footsteps?
  7. Amen to that, brother! Y'all know it!!!
  8. Not sure if this subject has ever been broached, but which Jimmy Smith albums do you find yourself listening to most often: those which he did for Blue Note, or those which he did for Verve? This is not a question of which do you think are his greatest recordings (and the answer may be the same for both questions), because some may enjoy his Verve output and yet think that his Blue Note output was of a greater quality. Or vice versa! So let the discussion begin, and thanks again for all the greeeeeeeeaze, J.O.S.!!!
  9. Thanks Ralphie!
  10. Grrrrrrrreat choices!!! That all-star jam from 8/25/57 is one of my favorite recording sessions period!!!
  11. I thought it had been pretty well established... D'OH!!! That'll teach me to post before reading what had come before!!! Sorry about that! :red-faced embarrassment:
  12. The Sermon Anything he did with Blakey ALL of Back at the Chicken Shack and Midnight Special Much much more to come......
  13. I recognized it as soon as it started! Track 2 from this album, which I should never have traded away ages ago (and which continues to spark debate as to the identity of the organist!)
  14. This is the sad state of jazz (and music) in general: a frickin' legend passes away, yet a cursory search on Yahoo brings us the news that the drummer for the Doobie Brothers died today. Un-fucking-believable!!!
  15. Words fail...... To anyone who thinks that one person can't make a difference, take a look at Jimmy Smith. Dammit, Blue Note: RVG Back at the Chicken Shack and Midnight Special NOW!!!!
  16. Here!!!
  17. Hence all the Viagra commercials....... B-)
  18. From what I hear, the former "Debbie" Gibson's Playboy spread kinda gives new meaning to the "blue" in the above title........
  19. Someone probably did. It's not the same sign. Font is different. But very clearly the same address. Or maybe they just updated the signs over the years. Street sign maintenance and upkeep, y'know! Regardless, that is one hella cool picture!!!
  20. Happy birthday, Tod! Post around here more often, man!
  21. Oh yeah!!! The ten-minute "Ginza Samba" MAKES that album! Eddie Duran is da SHIT when it comes to rhythm guitar!
  22. Here’s what I’ve been wondering since that reissue came out (I don’t have it yet, so perhaps I’m asking a question that is answered inside the CD): why the new cover? I’m so used to the OJC cover that has the picture of Stan AND Cal, that seeing this cover with just Stan was kinda surprising. So, which one was the original cover? from the back of the CD: "The cover of this compact disc differs from that used for the LP /cassette version. The CD utilizes the original cover art which could not be located at the time of the LP / cassette reissue." That's cool. I guess this means that the cover on the OJC issue was from a reissue of the album after its original issue (I'm guessing this because of the Fantasy logo on that cover).
