  1. RIP, he was on of the greatest
  2. You are right, in the pre internet days ordering books was a hassle. I was a regular at a little fancy bookstore and they were very helpful and I think they contacted no one less than Francis Paudras, who was the co-autor of the book , together with Chan Parker. I think, it was around 1980. Then in 1986 came the Francis Paudras book about Bud, written in french. I also was very expensive and I ordered it the same way, via that little fancy bookstore. It is fine now to order all stuff via internet, but it was fine then also, especially those a little old fashioned stores, record stores , book stores, I loved to spend time there....
  3. I love those late 60´s Miles albums in transition from acoustic to slightly electric, here especially the first track "Stuff".....
  4. I have "To Bird with Love". I purchased it shortly after it came out. I think , then it was advertised in "Jazz Podium" and around 1980 if I remember right, my book-dealer helped me to order it. It was quite expensive then, but not as expensive as it is now.
  5. I got this for Chrismas. It´s a shame I didn´t know this record until now. It was recorded about the same time as "Black Saint..." but it has more already known stuff, like the Theme For Lester Young, and Hora Decubitus actually is "E´s flat A´s flat too" from "Blues and Roots" and the first tune II.B.S. actually is "Haitian Fight Song". What a wonderful album, great arrangements, and I X Love is a wonderful ballad that I already knew with another title from "Town Hall Concert". And what a great version of "Mood Indigo", with some of the best bass solo work of Mingus. Anyway, besides his immense role as a composer, Mingus for me is the greatest bassist of his generation. The CD has a bonus track "Freedom" which is much better than the one on "Town Hall". I´m so glad I got this record.....
  6. I have this one, I bought it in 1978.
  7. Yes that´s true.
  8. The George Adams Danny Richmond "Don´t Loose Control" had Cult status here in Austria. Many bought this and always spinned the title track. All this, like Danny Richmond´s "Ode to Mingus" which I also had purchased than, came out shortly after Mingus´ death. In 1980 I saw George Adams-Don Pullen-Cameron Brown-Dannie Richmond live. That was a great concert. As much as I remember, they played Don Pullen´s "Newcomer" which was on "Mingus Moves", and "Double Arc Jake" and I think they also did a vocal á la "Don´t loose Control".
  9. Great picture. It was almost a father-son relation between Jackie McLean and Tony Williams. I think McLean even offered Tony a place to sleep during Chrismas 1962 when he first came to NY. Young Tony looks like he could be McLean´s son, so young he looks. But what really counts is the great music those two were making.....
  10. Great project you are doing !
  11. A very intersting book with studio stories that happend at the famous Bolleman Studio in Monster, Holland. About Freddie Hubbard, Mc Coy Tiner, Bobby Hutcherson, Mingus Dynasty, George Adams Don Pullen, Chet Baker, Pharoah Sanders, Eddie Harris, Woody Shaw and others....
  12. Fantastic live Coltrane from Graz, Austria, 1962.
  13. To great live performances from the 60´s. I got those two for Chrismas from my wife.....
  14. Very interesting thoughts about the Max Roach Quartets of the late 70´s. I also have Pictures of a Frame, but have not listened to it lately..., I must admit I also preferred the quartet with Billy Harper in it, something with the sound of Odean Pope, it´s hard to describe, is it possible it sounds a bit as a bassoon ?
  15. It´s strange there´s so little information about those two sessions 1947 and 1953. And for my confusion, I think Peter Pullman claimed that the 1947 session actually was recorded in 1949. And I don´t know whether the 1953 material was recorded before or after the BN Glass Enclosure.....
  16. A very fine set of Rollins from the 70´s. I got this for birthday from my wife....
  17. Yeah, those Mythic Sound 10 CDs. I like especially the second half of that album, that tracks made in NY in autumn 64 with John Ore and J.C. Moses. And it´s probably the only time Bud played "Bemsha Swing". In some discography I read that actually on Bemsha Denzil Best (the co-composer of that song together with Monk) is on drums. A wonderful album
  18. same here, just turned 61
  19. one of my favourite Wes Montgomery albums, actually this was the first I had.
