  1. The trio with Scott La Faro in general, and the 1961 Village Vanguard recordings in particular (recorded 10 days before La Faro was killed in a car crash). Not that you really can go wrong with any recordings by Willie "Fingers" Evans. Thanks for the tip! I'll check them out.
  2. Damn, if it wasn't for that elusive Lou Donaldson set, I'd be all over this!
  3. Problem is I don't have any Bill Evans. I wouldn't even know where to begin. By the time I read this thread, I was 1-1/2 hours late and Amazon had already corrected its "mistake." Oh, give me more 3-week BestBuy correction periods.
  4. Looks like you're right. That auction has been pulled. What was the asking price?
  5. I bought my Oscar Peterson Mosaic through them and had no trouble at all. The set was sealed and packed well enough not to sustain any damage. I've also bought a couple of other CDs from them with no issues. I guess their return policy, should you need it, is a bit shady. Absolutely. Thumbs up for Newbury Comics all the way. First class outfit. I don't use Caiman anymore for two reasons: (1) Once I ordered a hard to find CD from the Amazon site and waited 3 weeks for a shipment notice. Finally got refunded, but that's just plain bad business practice. (2) When they took over control of Tower after the bankruptcy, I had two outstanding orders for rare Buddy De Franco albums. Tower's policy of not charging your account until shipment went out the door and Caiman's was instituted. I was immediately charged for CDs that I never received. When I went to call customer service and ask for my money back, they kept assuring me to keep waiting. Unfortunately, I waited too long for my credit card company to do anything about it. In the end I got stiffed about $50 and Caiman/Tower refused to even grant me store credit as a consolation. I don't trust those bastards anymore.
  6. Why don't you ask Mosaic? Because I figured someone on this board already knows the answers, but if not, that will be my backup plan.
  7. So I guess my workplace's streaming content isn't blocked on weekends. Those are some seriously good music samples, and complete ones at that. I'm very interested in this set. Stupid questions: Why isn't the set labeled "complete"? Were there some CBS radio recordings made between 1954 and 1956 that were left out? Also: Why do some Mosaic sets use the word "Recordings" and others "Sessions"?
  8. Thanks for the info. Funny thing is today I was considering buying that Pablo box set. Now I can listen to whole song samples. Sweet!
  9. Yeah, me too. Window's Media Player tells me "The channel does not support the stream format" when I open the URL. I'm using an older iMac running Tiger. Something's different with the new music samples. Thanks for the reply, jazzbo, but I even tried installing a browser plugin from Microsoft called Flip4Mac, but when I click on the sample link, it tries to load the page but never completes. Works for the Louis Armstrong ones though.
  10. I have copies of the Shorty Rogers Mosaic and scans of the track listings and detailed discography from the large booklet. I found the track listing shows "Pearls" as the fourth song on Disc 3, but the discography titles it "Peals". Anybody know which is correct? I'm guessing the former, but you never know.
  11. I bought one today after confirming from Newbury that the set is indeed new and sealed and untouched by saws, drills, and any other various UPC manglers. The samples sound enticing.
  12. I'm tempted to preorder this set today, but I'd really like to listen to those 5 samples. Unfortunately, the format is not Mac-compatible. Neither are the Artie Shaw ones. All the other Mosaic music clips work. I've tried loading the URL in Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, iTunes, and QuickTime. Nothing works with this newer format. Any suggestions from the Mac enthusiasts out there? Can't try it at work because all streaming content is blocked.
  13. I bought the Art Pepper Hollywood All-Star Sessions from Amazon Marketplace's Newbury Comics today. I verified that indeed it's not a cutout or UPC gouge, but fully new retail. I've played all 50 sound samples 3 times today, so I think I'll enjoy it. Also took a chance on the Bud Shank/Bob Cooper Mosaic Select that's still available on Amazon. Not sure if they'll in fact deliver in the 1 to 3 weeks promised. The last one on eBay went for almost $100, so $64 is a bargain in comparison.
  14. Congratulations! How wonderful! I've got all daughters too, but we stopped at a mere two.
  15. What I can't explain is that I dropped off a disc on Monday morning (Columbus Day) at a standard neighborhood mailbox and it still arrived at 5AM the next morning. Federal holidays be damned!
  16. Just as likely to be a difference between CD players - some are much more tolerant than others. I have several CD's that play OK on some players and don't on other players. I can't play any of the three Charles Tolliver Mosaic Select discs on my CD player at work (just spins and shuts down), but it works fine at home. Go figure. First time that's happened over the course of 16 years. (Yes, my Sony Car Discman still works.) I'll have to crack open my Side Steps set and give disc 5 a try.
  17. I'm reading early John Grisham from the public library. Last week it was A Time to Kill. This week is The Rainmaker:
  18. Shorty Rogers - Complete Atlantic & EMI Jazz Recordings, discs 1 & 2 Finally found a copy of this set. Wonderful!
  19. I've always thought he did stellar in Hunt For Red October, one of my all time favs, although I haven't seen the other movies mentioned. Guess I need to prime the Netflix queue this week.
  20. I don't know, dude. That's only 25% what the original big red box costs "on sale" at Mosaic's True Blue Music site. I think I'd reconsider.
  21. See Stefan's earlier post. "Playing disc 1" ... of 1? I'm betting that once the site switches over from Pre-Order state and posts a photo and more info, the mistake will be discovered. Hard to believe this set isn't supposed to be priced the same as the Interplay set, also available for sale. Mine's on the way too. Priority mail from Shepherdsville, KY. Not bad for economy shipping.
  22. Elvin Jones, disc 3. This might be my favorite of the eight.
  23. The first Lou Donaldson Mosaic offered on eBay since the bad news just ended today: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Wonder how much a Dinah Washington will fetch.
  24. Blowin' Country arrived in mint condition. Thanks! I figured this was the next best thing to spending months looking for the Shank/Cooper Mosaic Select set.
  25. No Value Added Tax to pay? What's that worth?
