  1. bumpomatic. make me an offer i can't refuse...
  2. yaeh, i grabbed that one the other day too. that's so great that you were there!@#$% what a beautiful place to be. i believe this is more from that performance: More hey brownie, how do you "embed" vids like you did above? i tried a couple things but couldn't get it to work. i'm sure i'm just missing a simple little thing but can't find it...
  3. nice! thanks man. looks like i've got a new favorite youtube channel to sift through (that zappa is looking very fine...) edit: whoa... this channel really is a goldmine. thanks again...
  4. easy access: YouTube Juan Les Pins or: Same Band/Year: Better Quality Video IMO obviously, both are genius. i was so blown away by this 2nd video (teatro) i searched the net and found a dvd 4 sale and bought it up. i'll let you guys know what happens w/ my purchase if interested... edit: cancelled my order of the dvd. looks like it's the exact clips that are on youtube. thought they were truncated from the dvd. apparently not. i can simply upgrade my realplayer and put 'em on to dvd if i wanted...
  5. or is it? you have a PM...
  6. i'm seeing him on the 30th this month. got lucky w/ a front row seat. a few weeks ago i'd decided to not go because there were no seats left aside from the last couple of rows, and they'd not announced who would be playing bass/drums. on a whim i checked the website two days ago because i was curious to see if it was completely sold out (not a very big space) and found that someone must've returned some tix because a front row seat was available. and it'd been announced that matt penman and bill stewart were on the gig. i snatched up the ticket this is my personal favorite scofield configuration: the Sco-Lo Quartet. the records they made together under scofield's name back in the day are some of my all-time favorite recordings. too bad irwin isn't still here, but penman is an amazing musician. i checked scofield's website and the "quartet" only has a small handful of shows (3 or something). i'm very excited to be able to see it. it's been a long time since i've seen these guys play together live...
  7. just used my coupon/credit for this: been wanting it for a while now. 50% off is way cool. maybe another one will be coming along soon
  8. got my email today but haven't processed it yet. should be fine i assume. looking forward to getting something for $10 that woulda been $20 - thanks again GA
  9. haven't received anything yet...
  10. yes, it's true: i'm getting older and forgetful. at times i'm easily confused. was there a thread about an upcoming grateful dead box set "Complete Europe '72" that got taken down? am i confusing this forum w/ another i may have seen it at? have i forgotten how to use the search function on this forum correctly? did i take too much acid in the 80s? i'm not kidding when i say i'm sorry for this posting as it may be a complete screw-up on my part. i can't find an appropriate emoticon for "embarrassed" so just imagine i placed one here...
  11. good to hear that mark shim is still at it. amazing player w/ a terrific sound. i thought i remember hearing that he was having a hard time a while back getting work. again, very nice to hear that he's at it!
  12. sounds good GA. i missed that part...
  13. i was under the impression from the process that i'd be getting a somewhat instant email that had a code. i haven't received an email yet. anyone else have thoughts? is it strictly a "hard copy" card in the mail? i thought i remembered reading at the site that it would be available for use tomorrow...
  14. thanks GA! just got mine. i buy stuff from amazon pretty regularly so this is terrific. buying $20 for $10? yes please! thanks again...
  15. definitely a sad news story. however, knowing the creativity, motivation, spirit, and respectful nature of the current group of creative artists in the chicago scene i'd bet that they'll pull something good out of this bad event.
  16. i love this video about as much as i can love anything that's not a friend or family member: Tiny Desk Concert hope some folks around here enjoy this stuff too. keep on the lookout for the neil young cover...
  17. not sure if this is cool with everyone here, and you are probably all already aware, but there are two other downloadable recordings out there of concerts by what i assume is the same quintet. one is from 11/3/69 (Salle Pleyel, Paris), and the other is from 11/9/69 (Rotterdam, The Netherlands). for my ear, they're good recordings and great performances. i don't know the exact date of the concert this thread was started for, but maybe these two others are later? cheers...
  18. bumparino... all reasonable offers considered.
  19. happy birthday nate! you da man
  20. i'm w/ the above quoted opinions. the girl's performance was the only thing i can think of to actually praise. she was terrific. everything else in the film left me flat. sometimes i get the feeling that the coen brothers are too interested in archetypes and style. ie: in True Grit they became enamored with "the western," or "revenge," or "headstrong girl," etc... and forgot that these genres/styles/archetypes are only useful when they help to flesh out a good story. my impression is that they spent too much time on technique and stylization, and left the characters/story behind expecting to make up for that with detailed archetypes and visuals - like an awesomely garnished plate with no main course. that almost never works for me. imo, truly great westerns like Unforgiven or Shane make it clear that True Grit is nothing but slightly above average.
  21. Life. Truth. Reality. oh, i see. That comment, sir...
  22. i've just read through most of this thread and apparently elvis was possibly "lying" about something. can anyone here succinctly, in non-sarcastic, straight-forward literal language describe what he was lying about? i honestly don't understand what's going on here yet...
  23. cool durium. i have only one cd w/ jesse: here and now. i believe it's his debut from a while back. it's definitely one of my very favorite straight-ahead, swinging be-bop guitar trio/quartet recordings. i listen to it quite often. favorite tracks: "the best things in life are free," and "bye bye baby."
  24. success!!! rostasi, you have a PM...
