This Sunday, a great matchup between the Seahawks and the 49ers. I believe the Seahawks will win, but it will be close.

I didn't see Coltrane at the Penthouse in Seattle because I was too young to get in and not yet into jazz. But it's sure good to have the recording ("Live in Seattle").

So if I understand correctly, Yusef used the term as a substitute for "jazz," which he felt was demeaning, not to denominate his particular type of music. Ornette's "harmolodics" is an example of the latter. That said, Yusef was quite versatile. He covered a lot of ground in his career, in and out of "the tradition" of jazz.

We Dat! -- Now the Seahawks have the opportunity to beat New Orleans twice in one year, both times at our place. I bet they wish they were going somewhere else instead.

John Coltrane: Ascension

Stanley Crouch is a super-egotistical gasbag. Anything he writes is primarily about himself. If he wants to punch me out, as he is wont to do, he'll have to come to the west coast.

I think it was Benny Goodman, Live at Carnegie Hall, purchased in 1961 when I was ten. But I didn't get into jazz until about eight years later.
