The LP of "Some Shapes" has been in my collection for many years. I really enjoyed it, but haven't heard it in years.

This is a terrible loss. Bert was an eccentric, both lovable and prickly. I interviewed him a few years ago for my radio show. He was a talented high-energy player who poured himself into his music. He was also highly opinionated and held a few grudges. He didn't gig much in recent years, but he hosted musical gatherings in his home in Olympia, WA.

I don't speak for the other folks here in Seattle, but in my humble opinion the NBA can go curl itself around a big fire hydrant and relieve itself. Now perhaps we can save the $200 million in public funds that were to be wasted on a basketball arena and fix up our city parks instead. I followed the Sonics back in the day but eventually lost interest and switched my allegiance to college hoops (University of Washington). Yes, it would be nice to have a pro basketball team in town again, but now that the NBA has screwed us twice it's time to give up and move on to more important things. Like for instance, the Seahawks.

Has anyone else heard "On Fire 2"? The name fits. Kidd is pretty powerful.

Hey, great pic. I really like that album, too.

OK, I never met him, but I'll share a friend's story. During a break at a club gig, my friend followed Miles into the men's room to ask for his autograph. He found Miles in a stall having intercourse with some young woman. That was awkward, but he got the autograph.

Albums it took you a while to start enjoying
Utevsky replied to JazzLover451's topic in Recommendations
Although I was deeply immersed in the avant garde in the 1970's, tracking down every Art Ensemble record I could find, somehow I couldn't get into Leo Smith. It was 15 or 20 years later when he finally got through to me, or you might say, when I finally let him in. -
