  1. Oh good lord, and I kid you not, softsong is the newest NJ board member. All bets are off. Duck and cover.
  2. Considering the peace talks were moving along at a good pace, I imagine the other board’s admin is none too please with the way in which one of their representatives handled the situation. I’d wager there’s some behind the scenes finger-pointing going on in that camp right about now.
  3. What’s done is done. But while we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop, I’m somehow reminded of Pulp Fiction. Jeez, Ving Rhames gets bent over and… No, no, maybe it was Deliverance. That’s the one where Ned Beatty in loaded jockey shorts gets… Oh, never mind.
  4. Wise words Jim Dye, but this could be just the beginning. Musicboy’s attitudes will prove impossible for many to resist lampooning —especially since he shows a taste for tracking and harassing others across the web. E-gads, how can a moderator afford such bizarre actions?
  5. Let’s see if I understand the gross equation properly. Member X posts on a website forum. The website’s administrator believes member X has violated the rules and deletes any posts and suspends the membership. Member X returns to his native stomping grounds to find a website mod has followed him home and slinging mud. Have I missed the mark?
  6. Perhaps philosophical differences should be discussed in neutral territory? It might prevent each side form feeling as if their home turf is being violated. Cyber-Switzerland?
  7. I envy the ability to so keenly discern good from bad and to take subsequent action with complete conviction —and without regret. Good for the “peeps’’ administrators. Ed, you asked Nora’s favorite color, right? Sure the question seems innocuous, but seemingly harmless questions can lead to trouble for any right-thinking body. Such a question opens the door for wrong-thinking clarification. What’s Nora’s favorite color of shoes, undergarments, feminine products, liquor, cocaine, weapons of mass destruction and Michael Jacksons? Pannora’s box must remain closed. Sure hope this helps.
  8. Funny thing is, somebody registered the username of “Norajonesucks.” The user has yet to post, but it looks like the administration’s net needs a little mending already. No, I didn’t register… I wanted to see if catesta had.
  9. What happens if the "rental" is resurfaced as with CDs? Can the chemical layer be removed to extend the lifespan? If so, Mickey’s fingering himself.
  10. I think Lovano’s live nonet recording is supposed to be released in August along with the Moran. I guess that’s a few months off yet, and BN has yet to officially announce their SACDs that may hit the streets in a few days —no Trane photo either. Ah, well… did you see the customer reviews under Dex’s The Classic Blue Note Recordings? Greg’s spirit lives on.
  11. Interesting. Dex and Patton are the only classic musicians featured in a photo roster of otherwise current talent. My first reaction was, “Hey, what about Rollins, Shorter, Mobley, Morgan, Blakey…” Then it dawned on me, Blue Note should put emphasis on promoting their active contracts. But no Lovano?
  12. Short story: “kartoffel” = potato, “hadi” = head (well, sorta) and “blues” is blues. Long story. Several elements came into play at the same time: A) A failed hunt to locate my copy of Orwell’s 1984. The freedom of the individual verses the welfare of the state is a theme that’s fascinated me since I can remember. I settled for watching Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange that night and was wowed by the film all over again. Although the word “kartoffel” doesn’t appear in the film, it is in the book. B) Shafi Hadi played one mean horn with Mingus. Mingus is one of those musicians that I initially abhorred before discovering just how much I loved him. The affair has yet to wan. I’m drawn to Mingus’ recordings with Hadi above all others, and what the hell happened to Hadi after Mingus? He might have given up jazz for painting, but that should be a story in itself and even Priestley isn’t talking. C) At that time, Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five and Seven recordings were new to me. Hey, where’s a boy to hear that stuff if he doesn’t first buy the material? The humor of “Potato Head Blues” struck my fancy. D) Some BNBB members were confusing my then current handle of “Afflatus” with someone else’s marginally similar board name —a somebody that had a tendency for hit-and-run insults. True, I sometimes come to play, but not in the same way. Combined with that night’s aberrant alcoholic drinking, I decided to change my name. Fun to tell, but boring to read, right? I still remember your explanation from elsewhere, Rooster. Can’t say I’ve ever seen the inspiration, though.
  13. I ran into this problem when using Village Photo as host. They cough up more bandwidth for a fee, and I’d rather not tax Organissimo server space with my attached images, but I guess I’m just too cheap. Besides, uploading the Live At the Meat House cover and Berigan’s censored seniors is akin to public service, right?
  14. …and if a blue note is a flatted-fifth, is a sharpened-fifth an orange note?
  15. We both thought the gaffe was intentional, Sngry. It kinda fit within the theme of your post… Guess this means I’ll have to stop singing praise for Quartet Oops and Housing Live Meat.
  16. May it bring you peace, happiness and contentment. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get some.
  17. Well, we have our in and outs, er, ups and downs like anybooby else. Still, I do my breast to cleavage her hairpi… happy. Shane… shit, Shawn
  18. Problem solved! No need to thank me, really.
  19. I’m deeply offended that Yellow is not on the ballot. A primary color, every bit the equal of Blue and Red (and Green, according to direct light purists) must be recognized for its intrinsic worth. Yet purple, a strictly secondary color, is thought to be of more value (and hue) than Yellow? Absurd, preposterous and unconscionable. I abstain from this injustice!
  20. Wow! Medina and All Seeing Eye are two of my favorite Conns. Different strokes, I guess. Also very fond of Julius Watkins’ Sextet Vol. 1 & 2, Freddie Redd’s Shades Of Redd (yeah, I know, some think this one’s a clinker) and Don Cherry’s Complete Communion. On the flip-side, no need to beat a dead horse but… Thinking Of Home.
  21. It just occurred to me; Is there no image of Meat House on the web? Well, then…
  22. I’m surprised nobody’s so far nominated Quartet Out’s Live At the Meat House; timely balls-out stuff that should bring a wide range of opinions. Certainly resident Jim would appreciate the additional exposure and maybe even bring him back from wherever he is now. Besides, Sngry never answered my email asking if Durick’s Bonham-like intro to “Donkey Dix” was intended as an aural pun.
  23. With Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter? Procrastinator is an easy choice for me. Thankfully, Shorter’s ETC, Tina Brooks’ Back To the Tracks and Blakey’s Roots & Herbs (among others) aren’t on the ballot.
  24. That’s not a bad price, either. I’d spring for it in a hot moment, if I only had the spare change.
  25. Classic Blue Note covers through an American Primitive lens? What a thought.
