I doubt that everything that everything Crown issued was properly leased - if so, there would have been no need for re-titling of tracks and such (this happened with some Cal Tjader tracks they used). The tracks for their compilations were selected by weird criteria.

Great album - it should be noted that it's a Clarke-Boland Octet accompanying him on this album. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just listened to this and must say, for me, Eckstine was the greatest. He is the first singer that made me listen to the lyrics to Stardust and other well known tunes, and what he does with them is stunning. There should be a Mosaic box of his MGM sides.

I feel almost like an alcoholic just because I post my weekend bottle of wine .... Sicilian white wine from Grillo grapes, 2016 vintage.

That Dick Katz Trio CD is one I like a lot - although his solo introductions are a bit too similar from track to track. Now playing Gegé Telesforo - We Couldn't Be Happier

I have both, and second your recommendation. No idea why that "New York Stories" CD didn't get more attention.

In the car this afternoon: Right now, just pulled from the mailbox:

All tracks were recorded for MGM, and only two are also on the Verve double CD. There were at least three of the Roulette Lps on CD, süme with previously unreleased bonus tracks. Is there no Eckstine thread?

I just ordered a copy of this CD, another Verve compilation of MGM recordings - AFAIK only two tracks overlap. A Mosaic box of his MGM sessions would have been a good deed.

Gave that one more listen this morning - great singer!

That reminds me that he was arguably the best bossa nova player among all jazz drummers - understood that groove and put some ofthe freedom of jazz drumming into it without losing it. Great.

Couldn't say it better. There were very few like him, on that level. One of my favourites, and always someone to listen to on any record. I wonder who would have been the perfect arranger for his marvellous voice - Gary McFarland? He could have been a latter day Nat Cole with the right background. I like Feeling Life. R.I.P., Mr. Tate, and many thanks for plenty of inspired music.
