Thanks - again very interesting comments - you will see what I mean when the tracks are revealed. You have # 8 right, and yes, it's Billy Higgins drumming on # 4, but otherwise ....

One of the great, important publishers of the 20th century. I read his book about current developments in publishing when his friend Klaus Wagenbach did the German edition. Very knowledgeable man. R.I.P.

Another bull's eye - I think Don Ellis' small group recordings from the early sixties deserve much more attention. Excellent sidemen, great song concepts, and fantastic trumpet playing. On this particular album, there's a great vibes talent, too.

Thanks for your comments! I inserted my remarks.

felser, please check the new download, after comparing your comments with the correct track order I noticed that on your list some are not what they shoudl be - e.g. your 17 shoudl be 14. Otherwise, as I said, very enlightening comments - there will be some surprises! I had no idea there actually could be so many vibe tracks new to you - but let's wait. So far all of the guesses were misses. I will only say that I was able to include only half of the vibists on my first list to avoid a double disc ....

Everybody will find new links for a better download in the PM threads - a thousand thanks to the king (ubu, that is)!!!

Okay, I will put it all into one zip file and upload it elsewhere, but this will have to wait until tomorrow morning. Will have done until noon CET. My familiar zipping software would not work on my new notebook, which has Windows 8. Maybe I can reactivate my YouSendIt account ... Made obsolete by king ubu's fine work. Check the PM threads for new download links. So far .... no, I can't give hints that early. But very interesting comments. Worth the effort, definitely.

Thanks, felser, for these first impressions. My initial reaction was to post a list of vibist nowhere in this compilation, but that would spoil some of the fun. Your comments are pretty enlightening as far as influences between vibist are concerned, but none of your guesses is accurate, I'm sorry. But as far as influences go, very nice. And some are, kind of, real heavy compliments for the actual players. I'll rather wait with my remarks until some more have posted.

To help with identifying the tracks I will post short descriptions of the song routines in the opening post, just to make sure we're talking about the same tracks.
-
This will have to wait until January, but then ...

The confusion with the file names occured when I found that track order was mixed up at some point in the prodedure, so I had to re-name - I forgot that the old attributions might pop up somewhere. I wanted to save time as it was getting late. The file names as in rapidshare are the correct order. So much for identification trouble, just like with human beings in modern life ...
-
Strange vibes, as far as the hassle with rapidshare is concerned ... when the Status Quo track identifications turned up, I spared the procedure of re-naming the file attributions with audacity ... oh how much I love modern total interconnectivity. All your above assumptions are correct, as are Jim R's track timings. Thanks for your patience ....

Mine should arrive any day now.

Okay, I PM'd the download link. There are 17 files, named BFT117-001 to BFT117-017, when the rapidshare page tunrs up, click on Download, check all the files and download. If any problems occur, please let me know. These are MP3's, not zipped. I'll open the discussion thread and we're off. Still open to new participants, don't hesitate. Enjoy and think out loud.

They took some risk with that cover ...

As long as you're not trying to get through as Harry Allen ...
-
Ordered a copy of the Devorah Day disc - very curious about it. There are very few jazz singers in a free style like this.
-
Still workin' on it - some neighbour started renovating his bathroom this morning, tearing down tiles - the noise was horrible.
-
You can still join in on Christmas eve, if you want ... had to work overtime and ran into trouble with the file transfer etc. but I think I will have it done on Saturday to upload.
-
Not quite, but you're closer than you think!
-
C'mon, some of this will be quite easy. I think I might have the final sequence together by Thursday evening and will make it available to jeffcrom to burn discs. But the general downlaod will be MP3s, as this is the only format in which I have some of the tracks. No Sonny Stitt, BTW ..., nowhere in this BFT.
