Received my copy a few days ago - nothing sensational, not even top class ballad playing, just very solid, and for its tranquility just the right stuff for me at the moment. This has a very appropriate simplicity all over it that our curent top notch jazz pianists couldn't do.

Thanks again all - my wonderful wife had prepared two days of surprises - a day and a night in a nice wellness hotel with a white chocolate oil bath for two, massage for me and a nice evening dinner, and a bunch of close friends greeting me with a birthday chorus as I opened the door when we returned home. This afternooen we rounded it out with a nice walk and coffee and cake at the banks of the Rhine with a befriended couple - the nicest 60th I could have imagined. Everything is in flux around me - I just started a new 10 hour job in an integration project at the local elementary school in addition to my 25 hour job in a project transporting handicapped people - my musical activities continue at a low level, but in a way that allows me to avoid any compromises, which is very important to me. Besides that I am running my German language Early Music Forum which is gradually getting some recognition from record labels, and still do reaearch on one or two book projects in that field. More discographical research is waiting ... I am very staisfied right now with my life. Thanks to all for their wishes and friendship here on the board and thanks to Jim for this place!

Just ordered the Zeitlin ... -
Will do next week! Today, my wife will lead me through a weekend of surprises - I have no idea what is going to happen .... I will be back to look here on Sunday! Thanks all, you're the greatest bunch on the web!

Happy Birthday, Pisces Brother! So much for birthday cakes ...

You can listen to samples on the MP3 page of the album at amazon.com - I ordered a copy. A guy like him selecting these tunes ..... he sounds at peace with himselves, that's enough for me.

If the Hutcherson and Zeitlin are still available in a week, I will place an order. Glad I already got Ellington's The Cosmic Scene, which is nice. The Andrew Hill is indispensable, IMHO. I wondered why it didn't sell out within weeks after he left this world. -
Still waiting ....

I had only time for one listen all through the compilation, some nice stuff among it, but I just can't find the time fpr serious listening or comments. Please take my apologies, I really appreciate the effort behind these discs. I have been offered a new day job, have to try it, maybe will have to work both for a period of transition, very busy times ....

Are there any Gary Foster / Clare Fischer duets among them? These would be at the top of my wish list.

That's a great trio ... I first heard and met Coleman when he was playing in town with Doug Hammond's Trio many many years ago, nice guy, and I love his tone, cool fire.

Great stuff! Thanks for linking this!

Besides the Ferrier I like this one: This is the Schönberg/Rihm chamber version, but just as impressive.

If anybody here wants the Prestige Legends of Acid Jazz twofer CD, I will give it away for a refund of the shipping costs - doesn't really thrill me. Please PM if interested.

Please be more specific - harpsichord, chamber, orchestral, secular vocal, sacred? There's plenty ...

Re Weiss: The Robert Barto on Naxos is fine, and inexpensive, but the musically best complete recording (emphasis on complete) is by Canadian Michel Cardin - absolutely entrancing! Hard to find, perhaps best from the artist himself. http://www.michelcardin.com

Take this one - it's a cheap issue, but that group is excellent!

amazon.de just reduced the price to € 23 incl. shipping, so I gave in. I'm no Miles completist, but this sounds good.

Thanks a lot, Chris! Great stuff!

I didn't go, both my wife and myself were still fighting our coughs - now that I've been through three days of more work than usual it was a wise decision. I will check out the youtube stuff, thanks for the hint. I like his trio CDs, but find the drummers a bit busy. His take on Monk tunes reaches me much more now than when it was released. But I prefer Monk with Monkish drummers.

Hmmm… I really like Lewis's early recordings on Atlantic, and his one record on Pacific Jazz with Jim Hall, Bill Perkins, and others. I love his elegant, sparsely-noted swing. I only have two later records of his, and had not thought that they are that different from his early records. The one on Pacific Jazz is a gem, of course, and his projects with varying ensembles for Atlantic, too - but his trios or duos or solos on the Atlantic albums are not yet fully realized. Just my two cents. The Wonderful Wolrd Of Jazz, for one, is another gem.
