  1. Thanks a lot - I know AllMusic, but they are often lacking in details or are inaccurate. I have all of what they list, but I try to take it on to a more scientific level. Would you mind sharing details on those two LPs: Last Bolero in Berkeley- Fantasy F9409 With Strings- Fantasy F9482 Tracks, timings, personnel (incl. arrangers on the strings date)? Thanks again!
  2. I think many a board member has a fourth one on the last disc of the Verve Prez box set ... I am very grateful it exists and feel honoured to be on the same board as the interviewer.
  3. Same here, about six or seven of them. But I am on a CD that sold 15.000 copies in Turkey ... we're in the process of doing the next one at the moment.
  4. Same here. Don't give a damn for fame, as long as it is not to my taste. I'm not that much into pop music. Would have to think about famous jazz albums ...
  5. Jensen played on Keezer's last CD for MaxJazz, Falling Up - they seem to be a very good match musically. Wish I could be there ...
  6. Not jazz, but probably fun: (for the uninformed)
  7. I thought it was some work that kept you off the board - take your time! BFTers are pateint people!
  8. The Hat Hut CD I have dates from 1990!
  9. The various LPs Clare Fischer recorded for Revelation may be available from his website - some great Gary Foster on them, too. Two of them were released on MPS in Europe. Fischer split his recording/releasing activities between MPS, Revelation, and Discovery at that time. Covering this stuff would be a worthy task for Mosaic - all the Fischer, Foster and Marsh stuff I have heard was excellent. Was there any other HatArt reissue except the Marsh and the Ortega?
  10. Is the Flora Purim material included? Only the tracks Joe played on (an overdub session).
  11. Besides Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer, the German Hohner made an Electra Piano that had a very distinctiove sound and was widely used in Europe - was somewhat more affordable than a Rhodes over here, IIRC. Gordon Beck used to play one of these, got a beautiful sound from it. There is a Nucleus LP where he and Dave McRae on a Rhodes deliver great contrast and nice comparison of the two instruments.
  12. This was discussed here, BTW, when the CD was released.
  13. I've loved this from the year it was out - a local befriended pianist hipped me to it. He even played the title tune with his band. Willis lays down some serious funky Wurlitzer piano on this! (Even tops his friend Herbie, I must admit.)

I have that one - very nice album, very well recorded! Forgot it originally was a PM production - Perla had good taste as a producer! Probably a labor of love from one bass player to two others! That's for sure what it sounds like! Could convert anyone into humming jazz bass fans ...

Was that the Heads Up album? This is nicer than one might think - Perla's and Alias' vision of funk was flexible and warm - some Latin inflections, but not the obvious stuff one might expect - the horn arrangements are tasteful. Give it a try - if you don't like it, I will buy it from you.

IIRC it is the same session - that European issue I mentioned could have been issued with Corea heading the artists list - again, if my memory serves me right - I was underwhelmed by this, sold my LP, never bought the CD.

That one was on CD for a while - at least in Europe - but the sound quality is not thrilling, and it sounds rather like a jam with its long solos. IMHO it is below the quality level of his Blue Notes with similar personnel.

  20. Now how are things a-progressin' ? Hope all is well, Rooster, I suppose you're busy with other things than burnin' dem discs .... take your time!
  21. From this list, I chose Larry Young. But my favourite among the dead is Don Patterson, Melvin Rhyne among the living (older), although I really dig the Turbanator's recent recordings. Among the younger, almost all of them.
  22. Randy, what brand of sticks is it you're using here?
  23. Seems like Mr. President tries to lock his country off from the rest of the world, except for harmless playgrounds of his enemies ...
  24. Barbara Dennerlein made at least two solo organ CDS, one on a church organ, and at least one duo with Argentinian drummer Daniel Messina. Jeff Palmer recorded his first album solo, on Improvising artists (click here) - AFAIK it is still available, if only on cassette and directly from him. Clare Fischer did one solo LP for Revelation (Great White Hope! was the title - not a Hammond but some electronic machine he used, and two tracks on Rhodes piano), and one for MPS on a small baroque pipe organ in label chief Brunner-Schwer's posession (Clare Declares). Very nice and madly swinging record, which is very hard to do on a pipe organ.
  25. I now used the quick country search function - again, everything works fine. You get whole albums through this feature right away. Should I cast in another vote for the Opera browser?
