  1. I used the dropdown menus to browse through geopgraphic regions, and had no problems. The single tracks lead to complete albums, if you want to (Buy whole album feature). $ 0.99 a track .... considering many are very short and an album can have up to 20 tracks ... I'd prefer a CD on demand option. I use the latest version of Opera to browse, BTW.
  2. Hard to believe Cuscuna missed out on something, although this has happened before. Has anyone heard the Definitive set? Are they really different takes? And has anyone compared the sound of the Mosaic Select with that of the previous CD issues?
  3. Studio recordings with a live approach, I'd say. I tend to dislike over-produced studio LPs, except when the results are stunning. Live recordings often have great exitement, but lesser sound quality. I have favourites in both camps.
  4. Belated wishes for many more bright moments!
  5. Don't want to be picky - but there's another typo here: Her name was Therese von Malfatti, Baroness Drosdick (Malfatti in Italian means "badly done" ...).
  6. Couldn't say it better - can't wait to hear the results! And Joe - whatever it is you're in - it won't last forever!
  7. I think he would have pursued the path shown by the posthumous Stellar Regions CD, but at the same time experimented with African music, especially larger percussion groups - and I think with other musical styles from all over the word, as well as electronics - remember he played Varitone on one his last tours?
  8. ... and of course, welcome to the board and its reservate of dedicated Cal fans in particular. Herbie Mann I loved before I first heard Cal's music - Do The Bossa Nova was one of my first jazz LPs, and I love his music and its openness to all styles ever since. There is a connection between Herbie's and Cal's bands, BTW: Johnny Rae played vibes and timbales in Herbie's Afro-Cuban band before he joined Tjader after Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo left.
  9. That's one of the few Tjader LPs not yet on CD (all are from the 1970's Fantasy tenure, BTW).
  10. Roker is still with us.... Duh! Glad to hear this, but wasn't it due to health problems he left the MJQ after Connie Kay's death? I'm afraid I mix up something here. Would be grateful for any info. Now I know: It the passing of Mrs. Roker I recalled. Some nice writeup on Roker on this webpage. Still: when was this recorded?

  12. If that's the way you fix things iny our houses ... held together by Duck Tape?
  13. I say it again: Monk Jr. or Cuscuna should start negotiations to issue this stuff as soon as possible!
  14. Thanks! Will gladly do so!
  15. When was this recorded? Mickey Roker left us two or so years ago, IIRC.
  16. Three (!) Cecil Payne albums to add to my wish list ...
  17. I'll sign up as soon as I have enough dough on my PayPal account ... Great! Looking very much forward to listening!
  18. This has the original vocal version, with the MGs backing Albert King (Cream used this as a model, too):
  19. ... and I loved "Heads or Tails", the flip side of "Melting Pot".
  20. Well, the Meters in a way expanded on the innovations of Booker T. & the MGs - Hip Hug Her was one of my first LPs - I still have it - and I almost wore that one out - but when I discovered the Meters I found them a little too reserved from then on.
  21. Someone here should hip this to Monk jr. to get it released on the family label!
  22. ... and of course I know Mr. Bassman as we play in the same band! He should stick his nose in here more often ...
  23. Very nice thread! Any pics from these meetings to prove it? I have a photo from Zurich when I met king ubu but must figure out some way to get it on this machine to prove it ... will have to send them to him, too. Met brownie in Paris. Looking forward to expand the list - there are plans to see tjobbe later this or next month.
  24. 87 ...... B-)
