TOCJ "Works" CDs- Which ones are hardest to find?
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to riverrat's topic in Re-issues
A Blue Train sold for $8 on eBay last week. In Jan, a sealed copy of the JPN SACD didn't get a single bid.....then it was relisted and sold for something like $10 or so. -
Too bad you didn't give us a heads-up on this. We could have at least made an effort to kidnap the SJ mailroom staff and infiltrate in one of our own to shuffle those votes around a little bit....maybe sneak Tippin' the Scales and some other goodies in there?

The "Blue Note Works" series has been reissued a few times in the 1990s and the reissues all used the same TOCJ-15XX, TOCJ-16XX and TOCJ-4XXX catalogue numbers, which leads me to believe that these are not "BN Works" reissues. I wouldn't be surprised if those TOCJ-85XX releases are reissues of the cheap "TOCJ24" Blue Notes with catalogue numbers TOCJ-6XXX that were released in the early 2000s. I picked up several of those, but decided to ditch them after a few listening sessions because I didn't like the sound. Right, that's what I was getting at (though not too clearly). If this was a 'Works' re-issue, Miles Davis Vol. 1 would be the first one to hit the shelves....not Coltrane. I agree w/you....this must be those other ones.

This is just the first batch of 50 titles with another 100 to follow. Based on the fact that they are being released in this sequence (looks like it's tied to overall popularity), I can't imagine it could be another 'Works' 20-bit run. If it were, you'd think they'd be releasing them in the same sequence as before...starting with Miles, Vol. 1, Vol 2, JJ Johnson, Bud Powell, etc.... right? TOCJ 8501 Coltrane,John(ts)/Blue Train 1100 TOCJ 8502 Adderley,Cannonball(as)/Somethin' Else 1100 TOCJ 8503 Clark,Sonny(p)/Cool Struttin' 1100 TOCJ 8504 Blakey,Art(ds)/And The Jazz Messengers(Moanin') 1100 TOCJ 8505 Hancock,Herbie(p)/Maiden Voyage 1100 TOCJ 8506 Rollins,Sonny(ts)/A Night At The Village Vanguard 1100 TOCJ 8507 Dolphy,Eric(as)/Out To Lunch 1100 TOCJ 8508 Morgan,Lee(tp)/Candy 1100 TOCJ 8509 Mobley,Hank(ts)/Soul Station 1100 TOCJ 8510 Blakey,Art(ds)/A Night At The Birdland Vol.1 1100 TOCJ 8511 Morgan,Lee(tp)/The Sidewinder 1100

New releases and reissues on SACD?
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to David Ayers's topic in Recommendations
I had to laugh when I saw this comment from someone over at Hoffman re: the upcoming BN XRCDs: "In the middle of a recession there is a flood of audiophile reissues in all formats, even in despised ones, like CD." No kidding --- so we've got the 45-rpm Music Matters and AP vinyl.....BN SACDs, BN XRCDs.......and of course, overseas we've got Toshiba rolling right along with the best of 'em, preparing to churn out the TOCJ-8000 series...... -
Are you happy with your Rega turntable? I've been considering buying the same turntable at some point. Yes, although I should mention that there was an audible (albeit low level) rubbing/grinding noise that both the dealer and I heard.....so he sent for a replacement motor and everything is perfect. Rega is not known for having motor flaws, so I'm guessing that mine fell off the back of the truck or something? Quite pleased with the cartridge. The green goes nicely with the green Iggy vinyl, dontcha think?

Bill Evans, Turn out the Stars, Best Buy $13.99
Son-of-a-Weizen replied to jazzbo's topic in Re-issues
You could be right about that.....although if a 2-cd SHM 'highlights' set was in the works, chances are it would be listed over at HMV Jpn along with the regular SHM 6-disc set that's due out in July. That set is still being described as 'remastered' ? .....a confusing listing for sure. -

The latest batch. An excellent item in there (Larry Bunker w/Burton) and my guess is that it'll include both Vols 1 & 2. Coincidentally, I just received the vol 1 Jpn vinyl yesterday from Hiroshi. Can't believe that this will finally be on cd. The pair would have made a nice Mosaic Select. Following CDs are scheduled for release. All set...thanks for the e-mail.

This one was scheduled for Jan or Feb release. Have checked several of the usual suspects both here and Japan (HMV, Amazon...) and don't see it. Is it already oop???? Someone's selling the '88 edition on Malaysian ebay for $50....forget about that. (DUJ043)

Vic, Which of the Al Haigs mentioned above do you recommend? I'm guessing you must have both of those ones on Fresh Sounds? I think I read somewhere on this board that the Will-o-the-Wisp sounds 'muddy' - that true? Thanks. MYCJ 30543 Haig,Al(p)/Jazz Will-O-The-Wisp 2500 MYCJ 30544 Haig,Al(p)/Quartet 2500

Someone sure talks like they are a bigger man than they really are 120. Have you picked up my dry cleaning yet???? Oh, um...sorry, not yet! I was busy mixing up a Bloody Mary and preparing your omelette. Now, about those Italian suits of yours --- the ones I just took to that dry-cleaner on Wilson Blvd.? Well, there was this gas leak and ............ -

Thank you for that information, Member No. 10,596. Member No. 10,596????? My goodness, I thought you were once a Major General? Must have violated a regulation and been busted down to Private? Well then, looks like Member No. 120 has someone to carry his clubs on the next golf outing! -

I've never actually understood why these post counts and member join date stats are even visible on all these boards? Almost seems like the equivalent of the military uniform with new arrivals being able to quickly id the old members (who talk alot) by the bulletin board 'stripes' they're wearing. We've got the Major Generals w/10,000+ posts.... then the 1st Lieutenants......and on down the line to the lowly weed Corporal who joined on March 20, 2009 and has a weak and pathetic post count of 7! BTW, has anyone seen Capt. 'Man With Golden Arm,' Chief Petty Officer Jim Dye and Lt. Col Couw lately? -

Oh, you got the Lionel whatshisnames birthplace wrong too? :blush2: Question for Walter: When the prompt pops up giving you the opportunity to post a comment on your own page as well as your friend's homepages --- well, what if you only want it to be posted on a couple of your friends homepages and not every single one? I wasn't sure, so I just hit 'skip.'
