Natural Information Society with Evan Parker - descension (Out Of Our Restrictions) [Eremite, 2021] I was there the night this was recorded at Oto, this excellent recording takes me straight back there. Great music making by all involved. and beforehand Andrew Hill - Hommage [East West, 1975] big thanks to HutchFan (again!) for recent prompt to fill this hole in my Hill collection.

  5. This is such a shame and sadly what I expect my reaction will be if and when I listen to this latest album. I've cooled towards his recordings over the last 20 years but thought 'Keep Me Singing' was the first in some time that was consistently good. Your description "I have loved Van's music as it has brought me joy and helped heal me when I needed it. It has energized me and calmed me. He's transported me away from my problems and helped me face them as well. His music has been a source of inspiration and enjoyment for me for years." very eloquently my feelings about so much of his music. Given that, I think I may just save myself the pain and not bother even trying the new one. Just imagine it never existed.

  7. I think we're probably all crashing off the rails in the face of a Braxtonian deluge...
  8. The 12 CD release I think you may be thinking of is the new Braxton House release of his new Standards Quartet 2020 with Alex Hawkins of this parish. I received the email about that one today too
  9. @Rabshakeh Sorry, yes the Yamamoto I referenced is Hozan Ginkai was my first I think, I now have 10+. I'd recommend these two as the next to try https://www.discogs.com/%E5%B1%B1%E6%9C%AC%E9%82%A6%E5%B1%B1-Hozan-Yamamoto-%E7%AB%B9%E3%81%AE%E7%B5%84%E6%9B%B2-The-Suite-For-Shakuhachi/master/545777 https://www.discogs.com/%E5%B1%B1%E6%9C%AC%E9%82%A6%E5%B1%B1-%E7%84%A1%E9%99%90%E3%81%AE%E8%AD%9C-Eternal-Echoes/master/1030900 You'll recognise some of the other players. For want of a better term these are on the more Jazz end of his spectrum of recordings, or possibly better described as less traditional. Oh, I don't know really, they're just great music Me too!
  10. Blu-Ray CD or download only as far as I can see. I've been waiting for Zim release for ages.
  11. Nothing wrong with that...as long as my bank's not reading it too
  12. That 'Message To Chicago' looks very interesting. Japanese Jazz trinity for me is Yamamoto, Togashi and Oki. I've not ventured very far beyond them and this thread could prove costly
  13. Such a beautiful album, and trio listening to convince myself I really don't need the Tone Poet issue
  14. Outstanding. it's influences are apparent but it definitely has its own identity. Some very good playing, especially from Chad Taylor and Kirk Knuffke
  15. I do, haven't dug it out for a while. It's good despite my lack of attention
  16. A couple of new arrivals Gary Bartz - Ju Ju Man [Catalyst, 2012, RP] thanks felser for the recommendation Art Blakey - Soul Finger [Mercury UK, Mono 1965]
  17. That'll be good, I have the companion without Marhaug
  18. On my list for Bandcamp Friday tomorrow, the one track I sampled was outstanding
  19. Ha! As a callow youth I loved Molly Hatchet for a couple of years. They were the highlight of one of my visits to the Reading Festival. Didn't they have about eighteen guitarists? At that time my hierarchy was Lynyrd Skynyrd Molly Hatchet 38 Special Black Oak Arkansas Marshall Tucker Band I was young, impressionable and Punk hadn't happened yet And now back to Latin Jazz...
  20. An entertaining, if not very positive review of Van's latest https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/may/06/van-morrison-new-record-project-volume-one-review I have to say it highlights a number of traits that I feel have been apparent for nearly twenty years but it would seem somewhat amplified on this release. I will give it a go but I'm not holding out much hope
  21. Brother Aah Sister Sledge Mother Theresa
