  1. Your speculation would be accurate. The solo album is particularly strong. Now for some more John Carter & Bobby Bradford Quartet - Flight For Four [Flying Dutchman]
  2. John Carter Quintet - Night Fire [Black Saint] John Carter - A Suite Of Early American Folk Pieces For Solo Clarinet [Moers Music]
  3. England have a creativity deficit which is why they won't get beyond the first team that doesn't. However, Southgate realises this and has done a good job of crafting a team around speed and energy and Harry Kane (and maybe Marcus Rashford). It's the best available. Last sixteen hopefully, QFs if very lucky but as an England fan I can dream of the semis and weep into my beer
  4. Yusef Lateef - The Golden Flute [HMV, mono] possibly my favourite Lateef
  5. That's unfair. They never looked like losing. Tunisia's only chance all evening was a penalty. Credit where credit's due. It was a good opening performance and a good sight better than many other England competition performances I can remember. They do need to do it again against Panama though
  6. They played well, I thought. Lost the impetus in the second half but a starting win is good enough for me What's beyond belief is that they created that many!
  7. Good first half for England. Impressive attacking but defence looks a bit uncertain. Need to convert some of these chances, obviously
  8. John Carter - Dance Of The Love Ghosts [Gramavision] second track, side one, Carter and Ashanti drummers. Extraordinary
  9. John Carter - Castles Of Ghana [Gramavision] time to revisit this series although I've just discovered I'm missing one. This will be rectified.
  10. Marzette Watts - Marzette Watts & Company [ESP]
  11. Fred Katz with Paul Horn and the Chico Hamilton Quintet - Zen: The Music Of Fred Katz [Vogue]
  12. Well played Switzerland. They weren't afraid to go after the Brazilians and deserved the draw
  13. Horace Tapscott Conducting The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra - The Call [Nimbus West]
  14. Kolarov's free kick was up there with Ronaldo's, possibly better. The better team won I thought. If Serbia can be more consistent they certainly have the flair and (sometimes annoying) physicality to upset opponents. And, I've just noticed that the thread title is definitely missing an "a" if not more...
  15. music from the Horace Tapscott Archive. Mostly Tapscott but also pieces by Linda Hill and Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq released to accompany
  16. It would have graced any stage of the competition. To watch the quality of the likes of Iniesta, Isco and Silva is just a pure pleasure. And Ronaldo is just a force of nature. It's what the WC should be all about Looking forward to Monday now when the Three Lions will show the world how to really play the game... Can't say I blame you. THE French squad is ridiculously strong but we'll have to see if Deschamps can forge a team from it. If he does they could go a long way. I
  17. I'm not sure it's that fair to lay the blame solely at one player's feet. Not least because De Gea's mistake was a lot greater than anyone elses Ha! Just realised, that's Pique of Barcelona. I hope you're not letting club allegiance colour your view
  18. Sensational match between the Iberian neighbours. Costa and Nacho scored very very good goals and then Ronaldo trumps them. I'd say it was unbelievable but as he prepared to take the free kick it looked likely he'd score somehow
  19. Binker & Moses - Alive In The East? [Gearbox] great live sound on this
  20. Whoa...loved that album when it came out. Saw them a few times too...I'd completely forgotten about them
