  1. The Keith Tippett Octet - The Nine Dances Of Patrick O'Gonagan [Discus] Great writing, great playing. Here's to KT making a full recovery and making more joyously vital music as this
  2. Thanks. I'll add it to the "to investigate" list
  3. I agree. Those bass clarinets...the vibes and Sharrock amongst all the other great playing and the writing.
  4. Bev says "hello" back to you all. He's in fine fettle
  5. Marzette Watts - Marzette And Company [ESP]
  6. Yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying it and hoping the neighbours are too...or they're out at work I have Mine's "2nd Album" which I bought on spec for some reason I don't now recall.I need to dig that out again as I remember being impressed (and I've still not got round to "Tao Of Mad Phat"..ho, hum, too much music etc etc)
  7. One of today's arrivals Ornette Coleman - An Evening With Ornette Coleman [International Polydor] Heaven only knows why I've waited so long to hear this but the advantage lies in hearing new-to-me Ornette music of such a high standard for the first time
  8. I need to dig that out again. A real favourite at the time of release
  9. Sounds like one for me
  10. Sons Of Kemet - Lest We Forget What We Came Here To Do [Naim] revisiting this one due to the coverage of their new release on Impulse! I still sounds vital
  11. I'm meeting up with him tomorrow. I'll see what response "Mel Collins" produces. My money's on KC before Camel
  12. Grant Green - Funk In France [Resonance] LP1 followed by way of contrast Nedly Elstak Trio + Voice - The Machine [Fontana]
  13. Gregory Lewis - Organ Monk Blue [s/r]
  14. Emil Richards - Spirit of 1976 [Impulse]
  15. Paul Horn - July 9-10 [Pacific North Records]
  16. Count me a big Trible fan Trible has a number of releases all well worth hearing if you like his voice. They're all broadly in the "Spiritual Jazz" (a phrase I'm never entirely comfortable with but it acts as useful shorthand) sub-genre. There's one with the Lifeforce Trio which has a more modern (ten years ago) approach to rhythm and beats I was lucky enough to see him perform at Ronnie Scotts last year where he exceeded my long-held, and probably even unreasonably high, expectations. In person, his voice is a thing of wonder, very powerful
  17. you have your friends well trained
  18. Magical. Here's hoping his health issues don't prevent him from performing like this again
  19. On to Antibes now (saving LP1 for tomorrow morning) and I hear what you say about the sound - denser and a bit squeezed if that makes sense. I do like the organ/sax set up though
  20. I have the French one sitting here too. It's a good job it's a long weekend
  21. This again. The medley on side C is particularly special
  22. Same here. A real "buy with confidence" artist
  23. Tasty. Is it as good as I suspect it is?
  24. Grant Green - Slick! Live at Oil Can Harry's [Resonance] my first dive in. I like the very present sound that puts you in the front seats
  25. Really enjoyed listening to this, thanks. I need to read the rest of the thread now
