  1. Well, that was a very fun couple of hours. Keith Richards is really just there for effect now as he plays little guitar of any significance, Ronnie Wood was on fire taking the vast majority of lead guitar. Charlie Watts is still the coolest of the lot and Jagger is just Jagger. Obviously the back catalogue is huge and full of classics but it's still a surprise when they pull yet another gem out of the bag. Expectations fully exceeded (and partner ecstatic).
  2. "The Ritual" has moved to the top of the 'to buy' list
  3. Really? Does Iverson not know about Dean to that, somewhat dismissive, extent - "this person".
  4. The Rolling Stones I've never felt the urge to see them but my partner has always wanted to and they're not getting any younger. I'm prepared to be pleasantly surprised...
  5. Kahil El 'Zabar & David Murray - Golden Sea [Sound Aspects] I saw this duo in a not yet finished Jazz Cafe in London in about 1989 when this was released. Winter, no heating, no licensed bar but the music kept us all very warm. I don't listen enough to the El 'Zabar recordings I own
  6. That's what I thought too Andrew Hill - Invitation [Steeplechase]
  7. Paul Bley Trio - s/t [Radio Canada International]
  8. I keep meaning to get that
  9. Worry not, it's not really very good at all... It's from the same session as the ECM 'Ballads' which is at the top of my list of favourites - both are sparser than many of the other trio recordings and foreground Altschul and Peacock to great effect on some extended solo/duo passages. Glorious stuff. I discovered its existence on here too. There's a Paul Bley Trios thread somewhere. Dangerous place
  10. This one's right up there with my favourite Bley trio recordings
  11. Sleeve, labels and music all aligning on this one
  12. Thanks Adrian
  13. will be doing likewise as soon as it appears over here
  14. I thought I'd join in this game too. Mine appears to be the same - stereo sound but with mono labels (with "not for sale" stamped on) but not in a stereo sleeve
  15. A UK source for the Threadgills?
  16. I bought Carla Bley's "Andando El Tiempo" from the ECM rep at a gig. Horrible pressing fault on it which he initially denied could exixt but eventually admitted when he received more complaints. Quality control is high as we all know at ECM but occasionally...
  17. Sons Of Kemet - Your Queen Is A Reptile [Impulse] antidote to the weekend's jamboree. Good to see the Impulse! logo gracing music of statement and intent again
  18. Kelan Philip Cohran & The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - s/t [Honest Jon's] Joyous music-making all the recent talk about the shop sent me over there this morning. No sign of any blood on the walls...
  19. Pat Martino - Consciousness [Muse]
  20. David Murray Black Saint Quartet - Sacred Ground presence of Cassandra Wilson is a real bonus - I could listen to her sing anything, I think
  21. it is. It's also on Spotify if you want give a run through
  22. David Murray -Blues For Memo [Doublemoon] thought I'd join in with something more recent from Murray. This album really works for me and that includes Saul Williams' spoken word contributions. the great Craig Harris too
  23. ECM website is announcing the death of Alperin at the age of just 61. https://www.ecmrecords.com/news He recorded many fine albums for the label. Particular favourites of mine are 'North Story', 'Wave Of Sorrow' and 'First Impression' but they are all worth a listen. The most strikingly personal definitely being the solo 'At Home'
