  1. I keep meaning to get that
  2. Worry not, it's not really very good at all... It's from the same session as the ECM 'Ballads' which is at the top of my list of favourites - both are sparser than many of the other trio recordings and foreground Altschul and Peacock to great effect on some extended solo/duo passages. Glorious stuff. I discovered its existence on here too. There's a Paul Bley Trios thread somewhere. Dangerous place
  3. This one's right up there with my favourite Bley trio recordings
  4. Sleeve, labels and music all aligning on this one
  5. Thanks Adrian
  6. will be doing likewise as soon as it appears over here
  7. I thought I'd join in this game too. Mine appears to be the same - stereo sound but with mono labels (with "not for sale" stamped on) but not in a stereo sleeve
  8. A UK source for the Threadgills?
  9. I bought Carla Bley's "Andando El Tiempo" from the ECM rep at a gig. Horrible pressing fault on it which he initially denied could exixt but eventually admitted when he received more complaints. Quality control is high as we all know at ECM but occasionally...
  10. Sons Of Kemet - Your Queen Is A Reptile [Impulse] antidote to the weekend's jamboree. Good to see the Impulse! logo gracing music of statement and intent again
  11. Kelan Philip Cohran & The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - s/t [Honest Jon's] Joyous music-making all the recent talk about the shop sent me over there this morning. No sign of any blood on the walls...
  12. Pat Martino - Consciousness [Muse]
  13. David Murray Black Saint Quartet - Sacred Ground presence of Cassandra Wilson is a real bonus - I could listen to her sing anything, I think
  14. it is. It's also on Spotify if you want give a run through
  15. David Murray -Blues For Memo [Doublemoon] thought I'd join in with something more recent from Murray. This album really works for me and that includes Saul Williams' spoken word contributions. the great Craig Harris too
  16. ECM website is announcing the death of Alperin at the age of just 61. https://www.ecmrecords.com/news He recorded many fine albums for the label. Particular favourites of mine are 'North Story', 'Wave Of Sorrow' and 'First Impression' but they are all worth a listen. The most strikingly personal definitely being the solo 'At Home'
  17. Also, the linked duet with Pauline Oliveros is something very special
  18. The Great Murray Hoovering. I did exactly the same, chasing down the DIWs and buying anything with his name on and then...the cooling. Only recently have I revisited some of his catalogue prompted by the purchase on a whim of the fairly recent 'Blues For Memo' which I enjoy a lot. I find the earlier India Navigation and Circle sessions easier to listen to now Maybe time to try Shakill's Warrior again. thanks for the nudge I listened to that only last week. Very nice indeed
  19. That was a great read, thanks for posting
  20. now that was a very good album, nestling undisturbed in a cupboard somewhere. I may dig it out
  21. Only knew of it through that Gustafsson site. Hopefully the shop will survive
  22. well you were a pretty hip pre-teen. I blow hot and cold with him but will always respect anyone who can write 'Alison', 'Shipbuilding' and 'Stamp The Earth Down' amongst others
  23. Great programme, completely over the top in an almost operatic fashion at times. Driven by strong characters and acting, story lines that stretch credibility (rooted to varying degrees in historical accuracy) but has a hell of a narrative drive. All the actors mentioned by Brad are indeed superb but so too are those in the supporting roles. It's often compared unfavourably to Boardwalk Empire over here (another great series) but I think that misses the point somewhat. It's certainly changed many perceptions of Birmingham. Red right hand! and I guess you could blind someone with your pinky but not as efficiently as with those razor blades
