  1. Quarteto Novo
  2. Bill Lewis/Khan Jamal - The River [Philly Jazz]
  3. No mention as yet on the Dusk Fire site....the wait continues......
  4. Stanley Cowell - Musa:Ancestral Streams [strata East]
  5. Attila Zollar/Don Friedman - Metamorphosis [Prestige] fascinating stuff - Richard Davis and Joe Chambers really take it out there on occasion What I'd really like are the two Bootleg Braxton downloads of the London gig by this Quartet that I attended in 1991. Sadly only available as a member of Tricentric
  6. So the great 1.1 is Oriental Wind! Damn, I have one of their albums but not this one. Bobo's a big star in this household too. I'll be tracking this LP down for sure (until I see the prices ) Overall what's great is that the artist's aren't necessarily obscure even if the particular LPs might be. That Barre Phillips - I'm buying that LP asap Thanks for a terrific BFT which I'm now going to listen to with fresh ears edit to add: got myself a 'Chila Chila' ordered
  7. If you decide yes, a board member has Santa Cruz on offer: Thanks. That's what prompted getting this box out
  8. Anthony Braxton - Quartet (London) 1985 [Leo] trying to decide if I need more by this band.....
  9. Anthony Braxton - The Complete Braxton [Freedom] how annoying to dig out something after many moons and discover a scratch you'd forgotten flawed one track - damn. Good music all round mind
  10. I would question the need for a baseball player unless this is a US list only. I'm not sure it has the global reach and recognition beyond the playing countries. That's why I suggested Ali as he was recognised probably anywhere that mass media reached at the time - I'm not too sure many other sports people have had that reach since.
  11. I'll be checking some of these names, keep them coming I shouldn't have forgotten UK's own Oren Marshall heard to great effect on the recent (Arthur Blythe inspired) The Grip LP On 'The Complete Braxton' there's the piece performed by The London Tuba Ensemble which has 5 players (95 to go)
  12. with you both on all three of them. It strikes me i've been lucky to see them all live too. Bob Stewart ages ago. Pleased to hear he's still doing the business - that band sounds great Steve
  13. OK, so we've had the bass and baritone players....let's hear it for the real low end Inspired to start the thread by Howard Johnson's monster performance on 'Balance' from Pharoah Sanders' Izipho Zam let's hear your favourite tuba performances
  14. Pharoah Sanders - Izipho Zam (My Gifts) [strata East] Howard Johnson!
  15. That's got me even more tempted Steve. I fear it's just not a the right time though
  16. Thoroughly enjoyed Disc 2 too but drew blanks throughout. Without checking oher posts my only stab is 2.4 is that Charles Tolliver? I like it whoever it is. I also can't wait to see who the final tracks's by - it's marvellous Really looking forward to the reveal but not expecting to recognise to many even then....it's been a good listen. thnaks for putting it together
  17. Resound - Resoundings [Matchless] w. Prevost/Moore/McPhail
  18. Coming to this late. Without reading the previous posts I only knew 1.4 was Stanko and was from one of the few albums of his I didn't have 1.6 had Kenny Wheeler in the band 1.7 was maybe Sclavis in his earlier days the others I have no idea whatsoever. I'm really hoping 1.1 isn't some horribly expensive and rare album because I want to hear all of it Now having read the posts I see I'm way off with Sclavis but near enough with the other two. Onto Disc 2 later, I hope
  19. pre-order of Tyshawn Sorey's 'Alloy'. The apparent return to 'Koan' dynamics makes this very appealing
  20. Mats Gustafsson on Tarfala trio's Syzygy. Also on Sonore albums and the Brotzmann Tentet
  21. When I first saw the thread title I rather hoped it was going to be dedicated to Mr Smith et al. About time they appeared here and then....short and sweet
  22. I find that whole idea oddly intriguing and tempting. I don't know why but maybe because it harks back to early childhood music/book packages, some great tunes and combuines that with a cottage-industry/craftsman, self production ethos. I'd love to hear and see one in the flesh Do you know this: Brilliant (though high production) set of completely varied Disney interpretations. Imagine the Disney songbook up to the late 60s played by the houseband on Pinocchio's Pleasure Island. A rather disturbing listen. No I don't but I'll look it up. There's the Sun Ra Disney on Leo Records too

  24. Evan Parker + AMM @ Cafe Oto. More birthday celebrations
