    Charlie Haden

I saw him do this same with QW in London, possibly the same tour

    Charlie Haden

His solo through the second half of 'La Pasionara' on 'Ballad Of The Fallen'
  3. Me too now Another that was big for me back then. I remember one of my first visits to Paris Jazz Corner hoovering up all the Label Bleu I could lay my hands on, this amongst them. I seen to remember it had a good write up in the Penguin Guide at the time
  4. I remember him mostly for his tireless championing of ECM
  5. Thanks, I'll track it down
  6. I don't know that one but I really rate his 'At This Point In Time'
  7. Pat Thomas - The Elephant Clock Of Al Jazari [OtoRoku, UK 2017]
  8. Pat Thomas - The Solar Model Of Ibn Al-Shatir [OtoRoku, UK 2024] my compensation for not being able to use my ticket to hear him play Monk this week. This is very good indeed.
  9. Such sacrifices have to be made sometimes
  10. Still remember hearing it for the first time in a bar in Derby in about 1985 and bothering the bar staff to tell me what it was I was hearing. Been a favourite since. Possibly the first time I knowingly listened to kora too, I have listened to a lot since.

    Charlie Haden

So did I I miss Haden too, an important figure for me when I was first discovering Jazz, 'Ballad Of The Fallen' was one of my earliest exposures to the genre. It goes to the desert island with me
  12. That was a big album for me. Ambitious and just about pulls it off
  13. A great song, horribly apt in the UK at the moment (apologies if that's too political)
  14. Yes, apologies, I was being parochial
  15. That's good news. I've been buying CDs from Leo for at least 25 years but the catalogue is that extensive that there's always something else to discover and a DL option will be most welcome. I suspect they'll also be 100% streamable as they appeared on other platforms a while back.
  16. That takes me back. I loved that band at the time. How's it sounding now?
  17. Amalgam - Prayer For Peace [Transition, UK 1969] An oft overlooked gem. This would get the current Spiritual Jazz mavens in such a tizzy if released now
  18. Interesting, my impression is there's always been plenty of copies around, hardly a rarity
  19. Every time I see it I think that hat is such a great cover, I should try listening to the music someday
  20. That was the first Cooder album I heard, fond memories

    Anthony Braxton

Oh dear, hope he's OK Joe McPhee has also cancelled his Oto appearance with Decoy
  22. CD purchase for me too I think. Mind you these Palm reissues all end up on streaming too. I'm guessing by the general enthusiasm that these are all well regarded albums? My knowledge of Lancaster is inexplicably poor Edit to add: looks like they're available individually, and also currently streaming in BC
