  1. I checked recently and found something that said it was LEG (like an arm and a leg).
  2. The only Joe Marsala Black & White session with Joe Thomas is the one from November 29, 1944. The material from that session was reissued on Solid Sender (LP) and also on the following CD (which I thought you had): Perhaps you're thinking of the Musicraft session from the following year? That session, as well as the one mentioned above, are on the following CD: Other trumpet players, like his brother Marty and Dizzy Gillespie, show up on the other Joe Marsala sessions on Black & White.
  3. I remember chatting with him after he was done. He seemed like a really nice guy. I have similar memories of Mundell Lowe.
  4. An old favorite for me also. The version of "My Romance" where Farlow divides the strings on one chorus to get those octave effects is memorable. I think I have a copy of the LP that Tal signed for me. Yep. Just checked. "BEST WISHES ALWAYS -- TAL FARLOW"
  5. When Summer Is Gone Indian summer
  6. When I was a kid in Cincinnati, my dad would take me many weekend mornings to watch the trains pass through Winton Place station. It's one of my fondest memories. Here are a few pictures that I found on line:
  7. I just did the same. Listening to Skandia Skies now... Instant gratification!
  8. Off the top of my head, some other notable jazz-related driving deaths include: - Wild Bill Davidson (he survived, but Frank Teschemacher didn't); mentioned above in the interim; -Eddie Costa; - Cecil Irwin died in an automobile crash, but I don't know if he was driving/ - Don Murray died in an auto crash, but he wasn't the driver.
  9. Jimmy Dorsey was quite adept at evoking or channeling Jimmie Noone.
  10. No. I think he may have moved out your way by then.
  11. Hodes is wonderful. I was fortunate to have seen him live once with another O-member.
  12. This material is on the second Hodges box on Mosaic, isn't it? Or is this something else?
  13. My copy reached a neighboring town early this morning (Saturday). Tracking shows it should arrive Monday night.
  14. Assorted vegetables (onions, peppers, mushrooms), salmon, and pineapple. The grill is getting a lot of use these days!
  15. I'll Never Be the Same (although it's original title was "Little Buttercup")
  16. Yes, according to Mosaic’s website. Still no shipping notice here. I think I was part of the first wave.
  17. Vocalist and broadcaster Ron Gill has passed away: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/bostonglobe/obituary.aspx?n=ronald-gill-ron&pid=196004541
  18. Very sad to hear this. I was fortunate to have seen have a handful of times. He left quite a legacy. A giant!
  19. There are three selections by a duo of George Masso and Bucky Pizzarelli on the George Masso album "Pieces of Eight" (Dreamstreet DR108). I don't have it and, if fact, don't think I've ever heard it.
  20. Cornetist Peter Ecklund has reportedly left us.
  21. EKE, I remember finally tracking this down several years ago. Hilbert's PWR discography dates this as June 20, 1950 and attributes it to a private acetate recorded at his home. Hilbert also lists a version of "Louise" with both Pee Wee and Bud Jacobson on clarinets (along with a different pianist and a trombonist. Apparently still unissued. I'd love to hear that one! There are two more titles that don't include Pee Wee.
