The 2002 one is likely to be a straight reissue of the 1994 16bit disk. The one from 2004 (TOCJ 9564) is a JRVG, AFAIK

This means the disk was released in 1994. I remember reading what the t+2yrs 1996 date on the back was all about on board krypton once, but I forgot. BTW & FWIW 1994 will make it a 16bit remaster.

I certainly agree with you .. he was an "edgy" player, who could really hit the mark, and had great emotion, but there are a few places where he is not quite up to it. I often wonder why he did not record more .... I particularly love "Out Of The Blue" (BN 84032) ... Yes. His reading of "Stay Just As Sweet As You Are" is what a jazz ballad IS. Anwyay, although some don't dig it, I LOVE his playing on Donald Byrd's "Slow Drag" LP. His solo on Blackjack is still one of my favourite moments.

Is the mention of Earl Mabley on the Diz & Getz album nothing but a mistake as the liners to the CD reissue want us believe, or was there more behind it? It seems a bit of a stretch to get from "Hank" to "Earl." Never saw mention of it being a middle name either. Or was it a bit of a joke in line with the Kings and Counts and Barons already around?

Blue Trails: The Rare Tracks (TOCJ 1601) collects various alternate takes and other things left off of the TOCJ reissues of the 1500/1600 series. In the meantime most of these tracks have been released domestically on the "appropriate" albums. It's a nice disk, but it has nothing to do with John Coltrane, apart from having an alternate of Blue Train and a more generously cropped version of the pic of Trane with the lollipop (cf. Blue Train) as its cover. link

the Mendes is short but great. I believe it clocks in at less than 20 minutes the Clooney has a stoopid rinky dinky organ, long since I played it the Whiting is indeed pretty syrupy the O.P. is nice but not essential the Tjader may seem a bit shallow if you're not listening the Slim is big fun and you should get it for Lady Be Good alone still need to get the Shifrin myself
