  1. definitely and I am just glad I didn't see it when it was still fresh. plus, my FN euro mind is wondering WTF "FN" is supposed to stand for?
  2. I made two CDrs out of the box
  3. actually, there is no single thread that wraps it all up. Discussion was taken to this board from Board Krypton and continued midway. There are tons of notes scattered throughout threads and forums on the sound quality of this and that JRVG. Basically, the early batches had inconsistent sound, some were fine, others sounded like AM radio. The first few batches of domestic RVGs had different mastering than their japanese counterparts. Later on they used the same masters and sounded much more consistent. The only reason to prefer JRVGs these days is because of the mini-LP cover art. Overall, (J)RVGs are loud and tend to be compressed, which for some means it's fatiguing to listen to them. Others think it's all fine and dandy. ancient thread here
  4. I only received your PM when I logged on just now, although it says it was sent hours ago at a time I should have found it. So in the end all is well, it just takes time.
  5. I believe it was EKE who mentioned that Mike had other matters on his mind than this board. He said the same thing about you. he did? and you remembered? something is fishy here, 's like you are looking for an alibi. So to be on the safe side, let's blame it all on catesta for a change...
  6. on another note, I see amazon.de is offering the Farmer/Golson Jazztet Mosaic for 59 euros and 95 cents. that's about $75 or £40 if my widget is working properly.

  8. I'm reasonably clean but I would look even more crazed after playing for more than two hours in scorching heat bah humbug! that was the saddest excuse they thought up for this years abominable quality of the games. "hey, it's hot!" "oh, let's play BORING then." as long as some guys still have the energy to kick an oponent in the eggs (twice) after the game, I think some investigations are in order.
  9. Soccer players are also reportedly being involved in the blood tapping situation. Zinedine Zidane's name has been mentioned. But the soccer governing bodies keep away from investigating this. still an investigation on illegal substances in football wouldn't be a luxury. I have a strong hunch some of the players are doped till their brains stop thinking. Some of the crazed looks on those faces speak volumes.
  10. some background on the case in this wiki article. and some on blood doping in this wiki article. Basically, blood was tapped from the athletes, treated with EPO to stimulate growth of red blood cells and then frozen to be reintroduced to the athlete's blood (which will have rebuilt its missing blood cells in the meantime) shortly before needed. As the EPO would no longer be detectable and needle pricks are commonplace with these guys being medically checked like nothing else, this form of doping can not be proven once applied. The effect is indeed the same as training in a oxygen tent or at high altitudes, but it's stronger and easier to obtain. The files of the Spanish police contain recordings of phone talks and copies of SMS messages of the bad doc Fuentes and Ulrich's directeur sportif, Rudy Pevenage. It seems most of the evidence is circumstantial, but enough for T-Mobile to sack their flag bearer. The fact that Ullrich did not (yet) undergo a DNA test to prove that this is not his blood did not help his case either. There is a possibility that he was set up and that he indeed does not know what happened to his blood, but this seems highly unlikely. The bad doc is already on record stating that the names that were spilt are just the tip of the iceberg. Also, many other branches of sport are involved, not just cycling.
  11. decksanddrumsandrockandroll (1998) is still the most famous and only (?) full disk output AFAIK. Pretty heavy techno stuff with thick beats and some nice surprise cameo samples. These is the guys that did that famous remake of Shirley Bassey's History Repeating.
  12. that's habit punching in on an inebriated brain. You will manage if you keep up the faith. If your strength falters join your local anonymous fruitbats. Together you will be strong!
  13. no it's not It is 32C this eve as I leave for home. I will put a wedge in tonight as I sit on my balcony. Some situations call for the citrus! cool the beer, ditch the citrus. If you want the latter, drink lemonade. it's 32°C here as well.
  14. actually, I think it shows the guy knows how his own personal clock ticks. He did tell the kids not to act like him and he told the grown ups that he could not have acted differently. There is much more behind that than any of us will be able to fathom I guess.
  15. it is just you as the oldest one is "if I like Kenny G, what should I buy next?"
  16. AND they get to flip and mirror them as they please. Make sure the guy on the cover is facing right, that's the forward motion, it looks more flashy. Facing left looks old and tired.
  17. ah man, that thing is just for toorists, no one actually drinks from it!
  18. more whack shit they welded shut all canalisation manhole covers in the "red zone". Took five guys: two welders, two police officers, one bloke with a list and a pencil. Today they were trooping around town again checking on all the welds and seals. Crazy I tell you.
  19. it's crazy here I tell you. We are living about 3 km from the city center and all the streets around our place are a no parking zone as well. All kinds of half hearted explanations for that about demonstrations running through the streets and you don't want to give these guys any cars they can top over and set on fire. I mean, it's not the G8 yet! Whatever, it means 10.000 people have to move their cars very far away and then return by shuttle bus -- they didn't use the closerby parking lots of a large mall, because [you guessed it] that is too costly. This leads to absurd situations where people tomorrow morning have to take the shuttle bus to their car, pick up their kids at home, drive them to school, park the car, take the shuttle bus to work and vice versa in the evening. Sure it's only one day and all that, but people here seriously aren't waiting for this kind of shite. Local television brought a poll in which over 60% of the people stated that Bush was NOT welcome. Over 80% said that this is too much of a hassle to go through. Of course the 12.500 police officers are all buying cups of coffee, newspapers, bagels and smoked fish and so are the plenty media folks, but that will not make up for the losses of this town that is thriving on tourism and now missing out on at least 24 hours of income. And those losses are not accounted in the bill of plenty million euros all this theatre already costs. Lots of good things could have been done with that money in a region with 20% unemployment -- a fact which will undoubtedly will not be shared with the curious president. And whatever the positive effect of this visit, it will not bring that money back in. This city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is featured in all the tourism books on Germany, so no one needs Bush to visit and put it on some map. All that jazz about the money sounds cheap, but in this federal union, the federal state of Mecklenburg Vorpommern has to foot the bill for all the extra security. A big problem if you know it's the poorest state of Germany. Angie has been a bit like the elephant she looks like walking into the china of MeckPomm. She forgot to inform the prime minister, then she forgot to invite the prime minister, she didn't offer monetary help (a political decision, but I won't go into that), she forgot to think up that it would be so costly to make Stralsund a high security place -- compared to that Heiligendamm is a piece of cake: throw some NATO wire around the hotel et voilà -- and all counter demonstrations will be blocked from Bush's view. The perfect world we live in to show off to those who are curious what has changed in the former East. Well, it has become much better, but there are still plenty problems and sometimes it's worse than it used to be. Anyhow, it was a gas walking through town today counting police officers and looking at the real scary guys with the suits and the darks glasses and the big hand guns and the thingies in their ears and the laptop computers in the trunk of their black Mercedes cars with the dark tinted glass. Also nice to see a bunch of tourists stepping out of a police vehicle: obviously undercover folks that went to mingle, lots of fun trying to identify them among the normal tourists: they are not old (like many a tourist), they are not young (like many a kid starting summer vacation this week), they do not have any children with them and they don't drink beer. The latter gave them away big time. Oh and big ass helicopters circling the town in search of ... what? also: fighter jets looking for real fast terrists and bombs.
  20. Things are getting better: FIFA rules explicitly state that FIFA is above the lowly worldly courts so this will go nowhere, but it is interesting and I hope to see some video footage that shows us where the fourth had his eyes when the incident took place. And it would certainly be nice to have him look somewhere completely different as that is likely to force FIFA to act with respect to video proof.

  22. Well, he hasn't explained his position much beyond what we already knew through his agent the morning after the incident. And before that television worldwide had shows that obviously Materazzi had said something to upset him. The only new part now is that he apologises to Materazzi. As I understand it all, he was first very ashamed and denied to go out for the medal ceremony as he felt undeserving of a medal. Then I gather he went home and visited his mother in the hospital. Yesterday evening the statement came that he would talk on the telly today, so why do it earlier. He certainly is not proud of what he did and I can very well imagine he is not eager to talk about it. So he chose his own venue instead of a horde of screaming journalists. There really is not much to say to make up for what he did.
  23. France dominated the midfield starting second half thru the extra time. That this did not result in many chances on goal is to be blamed on the Italian defense if you want to put it like that, although the French finish sure was to blame here and there as well. Throughout the first half, it was pretty much a stalemate with two teams standing solidly in the back et c'est ca. The Italian danger in the first half came from standard situations where at times the ref certainly helped some and at others it was obvious that the standard situation (corner shot) was all Italy played for -- it certainly became once it was clear that Barthez was staying on the line on those corner shots leaving it all to his defense. No one to blame there, but playing on defense and standards isn't exactly the tactic to win the hearts of the people. Italy was pretty much reacting for long stretches during the first half as well and nowhere near the game mode they played against the Germans where they were for once really making it all happen. The unlimited subs idea is interesting and I have seen that floating around, but it would probably kill the game if one team is leading with only 10 minutes to go. We'd have a sub-fest then and lots of frustration. I've also seen the option of introducing the netball rule of dividing the team strictly between forward and defense to make the game more attractive. At least that would create more space and fewer 9-guy defenses. And by the by, the failing strenght of the Italy midfield was also illustrated by Totti only hitting balls in standard situations. German television took a look at it and he hit his first "in game" ball towards the end of the first half. Where was he? Well, between defense and a couple of lonely forwards.
  24. actually, the reason is that it's too difficult for simple folks
