  1. -the suit -the tie hanging over the lapel -...
  2. Brownie, I nearly picked up a used CD of Gainsbourg's early jazz recordings not too long ago... may head back to the shop and see if it's still there. Any recommendations in that area? GOM, bear in mind that although Gainsbourg knew his jazz very thoroughly (some favorites of his were Monk, Jimmy Smith, Jackie McLean among others) he did not record any strictly jazz albums. In addition to what couw already recommended, I would suggest you check 'Confidentiel' (with backing by Elek Bacsik on guitar and Michel Gaudry on bass) and 'Gainsbourg Percussions', also some jazzy soundtracks (with very nice trumpet playing by Roger Guérin) on several items in the 3-CD anthology 'Le Cinéma de Gainsbourg' that came out this year from Universal. I've been listening to DU JAZZ DANS LE RAVIN, and speaking of Jackie McLean, who is the saxophonist on track #16, "Quand mon 6:35 me fait les yeux doux"? Sure sounds like a Jackie acolyte.. no wonder SG used him. It originally appeared on GAINSBOURG PERCUSSIONS. Michel Portal, alto; Eddy Louiss, piano; Pierre Michelot, b; Christian Garros, dr; Alain Goraguer, arr. & cond. Recorded October 1964 it's 6.35 BTW, not 6:35
  3. Someone should send them an email. They would have fun with it. Love that show... here's a hobby mythbuster: link
  4. YOU NOT SAY UKRAINE IS WEAK!!!! ...or Dmitry will call on his friends Vladimir and Vitali!
  5. Poetry by Jens Gerlach with music by Friedhelm Schönfeld.
  6. Isn't that Open Door pic part of a series of photographs by Bob Parent? I have always thought these were shot within a couple of minutes.
  7. so I *did* recognise a track! #8 is "Na Osicce" featuring Zuzana Lapciková on cymbalom and vocals. Somehow Emil Viklický's piano is very recognisable to me as well.
  8. that should rather read "Fed Up Bavaria Kills Bear". I think about 98% of the Germans is against this (Bavaria is not Germany for the sake of this argument -- and many more). About 98% of the Bavarians will be in favour. Them's retarded farmers I tell you!
  9. true. And I was just going to remark re. my prevous comment that someone pulled a "Figo" on him there. For once the ref was a bit further away and the guys on the pitch seem to know how to use it... For once a good ref BTW.
  10. Torres even tried to pull a "Figo" on Vieira to turn that tide. To try and get Vieira his second yellow, God punished Torres by letting Vieira score.
  11. I feel like I missed all the cards when I was out getting another drink. did I? Playing poker? not with this guy!
  12. I feel like I missed all the cards when I was out getting another drink. did I?
  13. This was another game that threatened to end in a tactic stale mate with strong and clever defense on both sides. That Spanish PK really broke it open. Now *this* is the kind of stuff we're watching to see!
  14. Mike, I have played your disks a few times and hear some things I like and some things I don't like as much. As I warned you beforehand, I will not find the time to type up some remarks, for which I apologise. Overall, I like the music you selected, I didn't recognise anything or anyone with 100% certainty so I will look out for the answers, listen again, and learn some. Thanks much.
  15. Brazil was really lame in the midfield again. About half of their passes went nowhere. Once Ghana got the ball, they did not really try to fight them off on the midfield, but instead went into their own half, rather close to the own PK area and buried themselves there. Then Ghana loses the ball and you see a fast counter attack with the waiting bunch up front coming into action. This kind of counter football is such an effing lame tactic and it is so frustrating to watch also for neutral public. Of course Ghana is to blame as well, they should have made some goals and should not have made those grave defensive mistakes.
  16. And Fogerty, of course... and whom
  17. Brazil failed to impress me four years ago and they have yet to impress me in this tournament. Everyone was all over Greece for playing crap football two years ago, but I don't see Brazil doing it much differently. Their game is mainly focussed on not losing instead of on winning. Something Germany has always been scolded for. Thus far the only team that has consistently played to win in this tournament has been Germany. Oh, the irony. Surely Brazil has its world class players that are always good for some nice tricks. But do we really want to watch an entire game of boring defense in anticipation of one brilliant pass and a few of those tricks? I'd rather see a team working together to score instead of depending on the individual brilliance of a few and the mistakes of the other team. If you look at FIFA game analyses, you get a lot of "but in the end it was individual skill that won Brazil the game". Which is also why I am a bit puzzled by all the reactions of Brazil not having found its way into the tournament and yadda yadda. To me they continued where they left off, just that their star players haven't found their form yet. Four years ago it was Turkey and Germany playing the combination football dominating the midfield and putting pressure on the Brazilian defense. Not the other way around. Stuff like Argentina showed us against Serbia is simply not the modus operandi of the Brazilian team when their opponent is more than a pile of tired Japanese...
  18. those Swiss are even worse at PKs than the Dutch. WTF?
  19. so now we have the first game decided on PKs and they are playing Que Sera. Heheh. Someone maybe want to remark that the Germans have no sense of humour?
  20. For sure their acting killed less people then the bunch of B-Movie actors that rules your country. Don't forget to post when GWB and Rove get an oscar or a Nobel Prize for peace. ey porcy, no politics zone here, please. thanks.
  21. Quite. Sheesh, when is this 2nd round going to get any better?!? Let's blame the refs. This one is quirky! The stuff that gets through is amazing. Then someone lifts a little finger and gets a card or a free kick against him. Rarely seen such an inconsistent ref (well outside of Italy then, where they were bought with big money so that's different). This is even worse than yesterday's game. At least there was something happening there. This is like two robots playing Atari ping-pong ad infinitum.
  22. Schwyz - Ukraine: 0-0 zzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ
  23. This nails it for my money. Soft, soft penalty, but possibly not incorrectly given. In any case, 'I've seen them given', as they say. I was going to mention the foolishness of O'Neill (?) going into a slide in that situation. And I agree, the door was left open for the ref to award the PK. I just think a better ref would have swallowed his whistle. Sorry, I disagree. Going into a slide was probably the only thing he could do. not so. He could have remained standing. Really, he went down too early.
  24. Having watched a few repeats: a totally incorrect decision by the referee. Theft indeed. I am not so sure. That was very stupid of the Australian defender to drop to the ground in front of the Italian, who then continued to trip over him. OF COURSE he could have jumped, but there is no rule that says he MUST. So when he doesn't he trips and when he trips, it's a foul. Foul = PK. Surely the ref could have NOT given this PK and I doubt even the Italians would have been very surprised. NOW, IF FIFA would finally try and seriously get a grip on all the diving and flight lessons, they should introduce a rule that FORBIDS a player to seek a foul. It's one thing to foul your opponent, but in my opinion it's much less fair to run into your opponent and then claim a foul. FIFA is all brouhah about the health of players coming first, but often enough players put their own health at stake in order to gain a little or -- more often -- to put their opponent to disadvantage. As it is now, the old adagio: The best ref is the ref that you don't notice, does not apply in the least to this tournament.
