Who's getting a Mosaic gift card under their tree?
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I just gave myself a Mosaic gift card and used it immediately for: The Complete Woody Herman Columbia (1945-7) (#223) The Complete Capitol Bobby Hackett Solo Sessions (#210) Classic Chu Berry Columbia and Victor Sessions (#236) You know how it is ... I've had these on my radar for all too long ... -
Last Chance: Dizzy Reece Select
neveronfriday replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I do believe that this Mosaic Select, which I bought about 2 seconds before it disappeared, might possibly have been the best reissue I bought in 2009. And it has A LOT of stuff .... Beatles (mono and stereo), Fitzgerald (Hollywood), Peterson (Duos), Radiohead (complete), Chopin (complete), Mozart (piano works) ... and much, much more (rather eclectic) stuff to compete with. I'm lovin' this set. :tup:tup:tup:tup -

I'm not quite sure, but there might still be some in here that I haven't posted yet? -

It's been replaced by the "View New Content" link at the top right. Not the orange button thingy next to it, just the words. Wasn't this like the fifth or sixth time this was asked ... in THIS thread? Sorry fellas. Usually on the ball regarding web usability .. just came back from a department lunch where I had 4 really good Belgian beers to make up for a shitty year of no pay raises, etc. and was maybe too disoriented

Answer: "[...] The Lord's Prayer, for instance, could be thought of as somewhat stuffy even in its updated version, so the satirical Christian online magazine Ship of Fools ran a competition to rewrite it in 160 characters or less - the length of a mobile phone text message."

OK, let me chime in here for a second. On my system I have various versions of various browsers installed (Internet Explorer, for example, even way back to version 4). On all the later browsers, this forum runs perfectly. Not a single glitch (besides that quote thingie in older posts, which is obviously not browser-based). Firefox (always with the latest build) is my main browser and is loaded to the brim with additional crap I think I need. That makes Firefox the browser which usually has most problems when it comes to rendering pages (my fault). All the other browsers I have I use for testing purposes (web pages) and they are installed out of the box (IE, Opera, Safari, ...). I haven't set, tweaked or adjusted anything whatsoever, simply because I only use them for a few minutes each month. So, I do think - if I read this thread correctly - that some of the browser issues some users are experiencing here have sth to do with user settings, installed add-ons and whatnot. To check, I ran this board on three absolutely clean installs of IE 7 and IE 8 at work today and I couldn't find a single problem. Mind you, for each clean install, all the necessray flash, shockwave, etc. plug-ins are/were up-to-date. So, I guess those who do have problems viewing the board should perhaps have a look at their various settings in their own browser. I'm almost sure sth is conflicting there. If you look at Invision's code, it is pretty clean and should be as compatible as possible with the latest generation browsers!

I had it but now it seems to be gone. Perhaps it's in the settings. Not sure. BTW, did you get my pm? Yes, I did get it and typed a reply, but when I hit the send button the board was down. Thanks for the heads up, but I'd already seen the set. I'm watching it. By the way, the music's still there... Sorry about the other day by the way No problem Jim, The new forum is an enormous mess on my IE8, but it's great on Firefox... Looks absolutely fine on my IE8?

It's slow continuously ... especially if you want to quote and post ... It's pure luck if you find a time at whicbh it isn't slow. Doesn't bother me much though ...

Great Erroll Garner Box Set Deal
neveronfriday replied to RDK's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Lol When trying to shelve it away, I noticed I already had it. -
I love a lot of Brubeck's stuff. Way back, when I was a toddler, it got me into jazz (along with Goodman, Parker and ... Glenn Miller). Have tried to complete my Brubeck collection of worthwhile sessions these past months. P.S.: I might be the only person on this planet who thinks that "Gone with the Wind" might possibly be the epitome of what the quartet sounded like at its best. I think everyone else thinks it's a mediocre recording, at best.

Hi everyone, I could still kick myself for not having had the cash way back when, but today it really can't be helped. Maybe there's one of you out there who dislikes these CDs enough to sell me volumes 3 - 5 (I have vols 1 & 2). I'd even take the rather mediocre (to put it mildly) vols 6 & 7 off your hands in one fell swoop if we could agree on some price that's a bit below the outrageous prices these sets are sold for around the web. This is really the only set I'm still missing in a collection tailored to nothing but my own tastes. I totally love Dinah's jazz sides and am afraid of having to go to my grave without ever having completed vols. 1-5. At least I've tried ... Thanks for looking! Edit: That should of course read "Mercury" above, but I don't seem to be able to change the thread title. :/

Looking for recommendations: Chopin (solo piano)
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Classical Discussion
Update: Just arrived a few minutes after my last post: This set on Deutsche Grammophon website I paid about 18 Euro for this one (listed as used, but unplayed ... and, now that I have it, it is actually totally new ... was still shrink-wrapped) incl. postage from a marketplace dealer. Didn't think I could go wrong with it at this price. [Edit: 17 CDs; budget reissue of earlier boxed set. Nov. 2009. Attached scan of boxed set, back.] -

Yes, great set. I also have that one. -
Also, as far as I can tell, the set is either sold out in most places or it is on backorder. All the amazon sites are out of stock and have switched to the 2 to 4 weeks bla bla. As an avid collector, I'll do the usual, give the industry the finger and get it elsewhere. Have to, really. It is unbelievable. limited to 8000 sets, whereas any other junk gets a print run of 60 trillion copies.

Thanks a lot for the informed tips! I was thinking of basically taking one of each "size" (amp and Cd player) home anyway to give them a weekend spin. I'll get back here once I've tried everything ... will be a few weeks (probably shortly after New Year's) because right now work doesn't leave me any room to breathe ... at all.
-
I'm thinking of the IN 80 se amp and the CD 100 (maybe 200), depending on a) how both sound on my Dynaudio 1.8 MKII and b) what kind of offer I'm made at my local dealer (I'm trying to stay below 1000 Euro for both). I'm in Germany and good deals on these items are more the rule than the exception, especially if you buy locally and have been a regular customer (as I have). I have a Marantz PM78 Class-A amp (and a 67OSE CD-player) but both I'm not satisfied with anymore. I'm going to try to audition several Atoll units/combos at home to see if I get the sound I'm hoping for. People who know my current system or the kind of setup I have tell me that Atoll might be the "next logical step" without breaking out too far from the sound I'm accustomed to. And ... thanks for commenting (and your recommendation). @jazzbo The Sony is indeed a very fine player. I had the chance to check it out yesterday. It's just out completely out of my price range.

Aren't those anti-Oscars prizes called "Razzies" (or sth like that)? Maybe we should have the "Jazzies" as well. Some of the stuff on that list I'd nominate for those.

Here's a copy of the front page of the four-page commercial flyer (other pages unrelated to the new boxed set | page 2: Icon Collectibles art fine print series | page 3: MD T-shirts | page 4: about the MD exhibition in Paris]:

Lee Morgan BN 50s Mosaic Discography?
neveronfriday replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Welcome ... I'll upload more once the current - completely insane - workload has been reduced by about 80%. I've got another 20 or so done ... plus a lot more unfinished ones. Cheers! -
The trumpet case (2010). Doesn't say much else, but sounds like that it'll contain some art/photos/etc. and will cost an arm and a leg. Sorry, I'm not home right now to check my box for the exact content of said flyer. I think it was mentioned elsewhere here already?
