Interestingly enough, last night I just listened to a Harry James Quadromania 4-CD set I bought years ago. It sucks if you own a somewhat audiophile system. Each and every CD has been no-noised to death. Membran has put out some good stuff recently, but these late 90s/early 2000s sets are horrible. Disclaimer: If you just want the music cheap, you play it in the car/on some boom box, or you just want to have a starting reference point, these sets can't be beat. I think I paid a Euro or two for 4 jam-packed CDs with Harry James.

neveronfriday = zerotolerance = deus62

That looks like the bearded mail lady that usually bends the hell out of rare limited editions that she tries to stuff into my mail box. I have a small mail box. -
a) It's complicated. I won't elaborate and bore you to death. b) I threw a fit some years ago because of some other idiot(s). c) I've been around since then. d) I'm a reformed ... err ... something (although free jazz is still NOT my thing). I like it here and I want my original moniker back. Jim tried ... and gave up? I love you all. Volkher (deus62/zerotolerance/neveronfriday). P.S.: I drink Cuba Libre exclusively (usually with Cacique (Venezuela) and Coke, not Pepsi). Is that a ticket back in? If not, once a week I drink Dutch Jenever (Jonge Bokma Graan Jenever). I love junk food, although I don't do the Internet porn thing. I shower once a day, minimum. P.S.S.: Jim, is that merge thing a "go" or a "no-go"?

I have: Latin Jazz: The Perfect Combination/La Combinacion Perfecta (Paperback) by Raul Fernandez. I have to admit that I haven't read it yet. It's more the coffee table style book (not size-wise, but content-wise/layout-wise), profusely illustrated. The kind of thing you can browse through quickly. I picked it up for a Euro one or two years ago. Looks nice, but I can't comment on the validity of its content ... at all.

I bought (90s ?) a whole bunch of compilations that all had similar covers like the one below. They all had good to excellent sound and I remember them getting favorable reviews in audiophile mags as well.

Jazz in Paris complete list
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Photos From that deus62 dude ... [Edit:] He tells me that there's a list here and that sometime this year he'll be finished with a *.pdf listing each and every issue, with covers, session info etc. for everyone to download. -
Thanks, Guy. I'll be on the lookout for these.

Happy Birthday, Big Al!
neveronfriday replied to Uncle Skid's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Sorry, late to the party. A late happy birthday! -
Either I'm wrong or I am really too dumb. We used to have a complete list of the Jazz in Paris series here somewhere. From vol. 1 - vol. 100 + something. Am I imagining i? Has anyone bookmarked it? Is this an alternative universe? Hello?

Still haven't heard some of the other one hundred and something CDs. :/ Guy, post here as soon as info becomes available. Looking forward to these.

Yep, and it's even got a quote by our very own Brownie in it who helped out with some info on the editors. Cheers!

It isn't a matter of like or dislike but total disregard and disrespect for musicians who can play rings around him and his pathetic bandmates. Add that to his laughable knowledge of the music ... I mean, forget that calling Miles with Tony Williams "early" ignores the Birth of the Cool - what about the first Quintet? The Trane-Cannonball band? All the other recorded bands that came before the second Quintet? I don't give a shit if a loser like him doesn't "like" jazz. Anyone who makes the crap he does, I wouldn't expect him to have any appreciation for something as complex and challenging as jazz. But to disrespect the musicians and know nothing of the history anyway? Fuck that. I think you guys are going way over board on this one. The guy is a drummer, for crying out loud. One thing is for sure: Copeland certainly plays rings around just about every member on this board. Pathetic bandmates? Paul McCartney is pathetic. John Lennon was half the time. Keith Moon was the epitome of pathetic. The list is endless. It's the music, man. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, fine. But to call someone like Andy Summers pathetic is coming on a bit strong, I think.

OK, this is old material and I'm a HUGE (make that a triple HUGE) fan of Teddy Wilson, but that box was a big disappointment. Yes, it doesn't cost anything really (I only paid 9 Euro on eBay, as far as I recall), but even for that amount of money, it was crap (unless you listen to the stuff on some boom box, in which case it should be fine and a real bargain). I have nothing to compare it to but the Heps, and they're lightyears better in sound. BTW: Not all Documents stuff has crappy sound, but you have to be really careful. We talked about an Artie Shaw box here a few months ago, which is quite good (Membran = Documents) and the Piazolla one that Brownie was raving about. They were real bargains at 9 Euro per box.

Love you man, but you ... suck.

Sorry.

Ooo - that looks good. Amazon says it doesn't have everything, but I've found a track list and will compare. Thanks very much. MG I have that one. The sound SUCKS! Beware. P.S.: I have it because I buy everything that has the name Teddy Wilson on it.

Hm. What an idiot. Still, about one million people started playing drums because of him. That's all I care about. I happen to like the Police and I saw them live when they started out (in a tiny club ... what a blast that was, of fresh music) and shortly before they called it quites, with a few times inbetween. I can't recall starting to dislike someone's music just because he/she said some idiotic stuff. If that were the case, I wouldn't be able to listen to the Beatles (did anyone ever notice how much shite came spilling out of their mouths continuously) or Monk (wasn't it Monk who waved away just about any other artist in some blindfold session? ... forgive me if I got that one wrong). If I can get tickets, I'll see The Police. Just after I bought myself a bunch of ECM CDs.
