Yep, and it's even got a quote by our very own Brownie in it who helped out with some info on the editors. Cheers!

It isn't a matter of like or dislike but total disregard and disrespect for musicians who can play rings around him and his pathetic bandmates. Add that to his laughable knowledge of the music ... I mean, forget that calling Miles with Tony Williams "early" ignores the Birth of the Cool - what about the first Quintet? The Trane-Cannonball band? All the other recorded bands that came before the second Quintet? I don't give a shit if a loser like him doesn't "like" jazz. Anyone who makes the crap he does, I wouldn't expect him to have any appreciation for something as complex and challenging as jazz. But to disrespect the musicians and know nothing of the history anyway? Fuck that. I think you guys are going way over board on this one. The guy is a drummer, for crying out loud. One thing is for sure: Copeland certainly plays rings around just about every member on this board. Pathetic bandmates? Paul McCartney is pathetic. John Lennon was half the time. Keith Moon was the epitome of pathetic. The list is endless. It's the music, man. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, fine. But to call someone like Andy Summers pathetic is coming on a bit strong, I think.

OK, this is old material and I'm a HUGE (make that a triple HUGE) fan of Teddy Wilson, but that box was a big disappointment. Yes, it doesn't cost anything really (I only paid 9 Euro on eBay, as far as I recall), but even for that amount of money, it was crap (unless you listen to the stuff on some boom box, in which case it should be fine and a real bargain). I have nothing to compare it to but the Heps, and they're lightyears better in sound. BTW: Not all Documents stuff has crappy sound, but you have to be really careful. We talked about an Artie Shaw box here a few months ago, which is quite good (Membran = Documents) and the Piazolla one that Brownie was raving about. They were real bargains at 9 Euro per box.

Love you man, but you ... suck.

Sorry.

Ooo - that looks good. Amazon says it doesn't have everything, but I've found a track list and will compare. Thanks very much. MG I have that one. The sound SUCKS! Beware. P.S.: I have it because I buy everything that has the name Teddy Wilson on it.

Hm. What an idiot. Still, about one million people started playing drums because of him. That's all I care about. I happen to like the Police and I saw them live when they started out (in a tiny club ... what a blast that was, of fresh music) and shortly before they called it quites, with a few times inbetween. I can't recall starting to dislike someone's music just because he/she said some idiotic stuff. If that were the case, I wouldn't be able to listen to the Beatles (did anyone ever notice how much shite came spilling out of their mouths continuously) or Monk (wasn't it Monk who waved away just about any other artist in some blindfold session? ... forgive me if I got that one wrong). If I can get tickets, I'll see The Police. Just after I bought myself a bunch of ECM CDs.

And Ben Webster. I forgot him! Maybe because he makes me sleep at every listening Yeah, but we're talking healthy and smooooooooooooth sleeping here. And that's a good thing, ain't it?

That title is an abomination. God, how I hate those "Has/Have ... Will" titles. Who came up with this idiocy that keeps rearing its ugly head again and again? And now in the NYT? Good grief. How about this from 1957: Have Gun, Will Travel: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050025/ Yeah, I know. And this. And ... I give up.

If I hear Garbarek one more time ... I have one double CD plus a few single ones that are good and interesting, but that's all I'll ever need (I saw him live twice and it was the same old same old ... again). Nothing against the man, but he's got such a distinct sound and way of playing that I personally find more than one hour of his music boring. There's so much other stuff on ECM and similar labels, but Garbarek turns up again and again. Smooth jazz? ECM? Yeah, some of it ... although my definition of smooth jazz seems to be quite a different one when compared to just about anything I get from ECM.

Just noticed (I never looked before): The last shipments from Caiman D.C. came from Auckland, New Zealand? Not that I care. I've ordered so much cheap stuff from them when compared to the regular prices that I've saved enough for my luxury trip this upcoming summer.

"Easy Lover"? Wasn't that belted out by that castrate? Can castrates belt?

No, I'm NOT going to post an Oscar Peterson video here. NOT.

That one sounds like a winner.

Hey, you should listen to "Bohren & Der Club of Gore." That'll get 'ya. From some dude on Amazon.com: "From the first cymbal splash to the last echo of falling raindrops, Bohren will have your heart inside of a David Lynch late night bar, smoking heavily as you watch the foreign temptress on stage try to seduce you..The atmospherics are heavy and bleak on this bands sound, however this is contradicted by the minimalistic, lush playing of the trio, offering a musical paradox in a way, the beauty of darkness...The sound does become a little repetivive and gimmicky when the formula is blatantly repeated a few times throughout, but for the most part you will be too immersed in the noir feel of it all to even notice..Perfect for stormy nights of quiet desperation.." [basically, sic]

I'm always so damn late. I just received the "Jazz paa Svenska" and "Jazz pa Ryska" expanded editions a few weeks ago although I had planned to order these literally as soon as they came out (see my posts somewhere above in this thread) ... (Edit: Oops, I even started this thread). If the sonic improvement on those two is any indication , the new one should be equally worth it. I'll probably get it next year if my past ordering history is anything to go by. Volkher
