  1. I always wait until stuff becomes available at a reasonable price in Europe from my usual haunts. I've completely stopped importing from the States because it is a total, absolute and complete pain in the arse. There, I said it.
  2. This one from CNN today:
  3. Sister Rosa Parks by The Neville Brothers [...] Chorus Thank you Miss Rosa, you are the spark, You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks. Thank you Miss Rosa you are the spark, You started our freedom movement Thank you Sister Rosa Parks. [...]
  4. Is there any way that you could put the CD online (to save on postage) so we could download it?
  5. Believe me, you don't need your liver as much as you need this baby. Just drink less and read more. Cheers!
  6. Amazon.co.uk has this one quite cheap at the moment, for 49 pounds (in my case that came out to be (incl. shipping to Germany) a grand total of EUR 84.52). I would think that at the moment that is the cheapest price anywhere, especially for Europeans. Great book and mine was packaged very well. They simply put the original box from the publisher into a padded box of their own. Despite its weight, it got here in mint condition (inside of the original box, it was also packaged very well with shrinkwrap, cardboard and protective papers). It's a bargain! Get it. P.S.: Funnily enough, the original box still contained a red "Do not open until October 4, 2005 ..." sticker) and also helps us customers figure out how books like this one or the very similar Complete Far Side Gallery (production value) can be produced so cheaply. The box states, amongst other things in big bold letters, "[...]Printing: 1 [...] Printed in China". Edit: link and image Amazon.co.uk
  7. I usually paid below 40 by waiting long enough (sometimes a mere 15 - 20 on eBay), but too many people seem to have caught on and the new boxes have a way of disappearing relatively fast. I'm hooked, so I went the jpc route (I still had a voucher to blow there courtesy of a project I helped on, so the thing didn't cost me a cent). @brownie : I'm a nasty customer. I spend tons of time at the Harmonia Mundi store (small but good) ... and then buy elsewhere (or online). Harmonia Mundi/Chant du Monde is/are not well represented on the Internet, so checking out their stuff in Strasbourg has become a regular thing for me. Yes, a winstub it will be. There's a great one very close (forgot the name of the street) where we always go (I'm going with a French colleague of mine who drives to Strasbourg about once a week; it's only about 45 minutes away from here plus 15 minutes to get to some totally obscure parking lots he always uncovers) and where we get brilliant food from the Alsace region, usually too much wine, and about two hours of non-stop stories from the owner who lived through/suffered through the upheavals of French-German history. Very pleasant guy and the real Strasbourg atmosphere (the half-timbered bulilding is in the oldest part of Strasbourg, with Gudd Stub and all, if anyone knows what that is). Hey, I'm getting all tingly thinking about the trip. I'll be having 1/4 on each of you guys. Santé/Prost!
  8. I'll have a look at their shop (Harmonia Mundi) in Strasbourg sometime next week. There's also a really nice café not far from there, so if it's not too cold and cloudy, I'll endulge in a nice glas of wine with some Distel playing on my mp3 player.
  9. Duh. JPC already has it (just talked to them). *hits purchase button*
  10. Yes, but try a reading from the original score (f. ex. the Dohnanyi recording with the Cleveland Orchestra) and not the reworked and overly syrupy Rimsky-Korsakov version produced about 20 years later, in 1886, which is the one found on CD/LP in 99% of the cases (and which is also the one in which it received its first performance). There is a world of a difference between those two versions.
  11. Skaal! http://www.aperitif.no/images/72566/Lysholm-Linie-200b.jpg (Sorry, but I think the Norwegian one is best)
  12. Hi, does anyone have "Spaceman" by 'Babatunde' Tony Ellis (late 70's/early 80's). If you do have this tune or the album it's on, could you send me a PM? Thanks.
  13. Just had to check in quick. Thanks Brownie! And color me happy! Looking forward to that next box. I have the piano one as well. As you said, excellent job, a great selection of tunes to boot, always something to be discovered there, and just an all-around great job done by people who care about the music very much. Now I'm really off. Later, and thanks again!
  14. I bought mine there a while back (actually a tiny bit cheaper) and a) they are still available and b) service is fast and professional. I've ordered tons from these guys (who actually also run other sites such as the Karstadt one (at least they used to ... same shop, same prices, different colors (blue)), and they've always had very good prices on especially their offers pages (they also have some great classical stuff ... the other day I bought an Anner Bylsma 10-CD Sony box for 9,95 (now 19 and something, I think)). Highly recommended!
  15. I was wondering if André Francis & Jean Schwarz are still putting out this wonderful series. So far I've always managed to find each box (4 so far, up until 1953, plus two separate ones by the same editors), but this year ... no luck yet. So, does anyone (f. ex. Brownie) have an idea if this series will be continued? Any info appreciated (maybe I was just dumb again and didn't look in the right places?). Thanks! P.S.: I won't be able to check in here for answers until beginning/middle of next week. I'm away on a short trip as of ... now. (I) (II) (III) (IV) (V) [Edit: Added cover for 5th volume, now available)
  16. I also thought things had at least eased up quite a bit. No such luck. I'm really sorry to hear that. I myself have been battling for weeks now with something the doctors simply can't get a grip on (as it turns out, I'm basically resistant to any antibiotics they have thrown at me [or rather the stuff screwing me up is resistant against that]). I've had to take some really strong pills which have given me an inflamation in all joints (no idea what the medical term is in English), to boot, and at the moment the doctors (three separate experts in the field) are just hoping it will go away by itself (fat chance). Basically, they don't know what to do. In comparison, it's only a nuisance, but I know what kind of frustration your wife and you are feeling. All the best. I hope you will find the cause of the problems and a treatment soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, as mucch as that is possible at the moment.
  17. Guys, you're killing me. But thanks for the heads up on this stuff. P.S.: I just checked and I also have the two folkvisor as *.mpc files (THAT must be the old twofer [without checking]) ... below a quick tag export ... Jan Johannson: Folkvisor (I guess that was the release title ('94)) ... I'm just too exhausted at the moment to check anything online: Titel: Visa från Utanmyra Titel: Gånglek från Älvdalen Titel: Polska från Medelpad Titel: Visa från Rättvik Titel: Brudmarsch efter Larshöga Jonke Titel: Vallet från Jämtland Titel: Emigrantvisa Titel: Berg-Kirstis polska Titel: Leksands skänklåt Titel: Gammal bröllopsmarsch Titel: Visa från Järna Titel: Polska efter Höök Olle Titel: Nära hemmet Titel: På ängen stod en björk Titel: Stepp, min stepp Titel: Bandura Titel: Längs floden Titel: Det går en kosack Titel: Mellan branta stränder Titel: Pråmdragarnas sång på Volga Titel: Jag broderade till gryningen Titel: Kvällar i Moskvas förstäder Titel: Entonigt klingar den lilla klockan Titel: Ströva omkring
  18. Thanks. Shall do. (And now go away. You're making me spend money) I fell in love with Johansson's playing a looooong time ago and it's time to add some CDs to the collection. I have the folk ones on LP, but they've been played thin ... They look like frisbees.
  19. I distinctly remember that this was supposed to be a new (+ newly remastered) one with some bonus tracks as a twofer this or next month. The list I read that on wasn't that old and used to be very reliable. But looking at what came out beginning of this month, I guess those were the ones and the twofer idea died along the way. Anything else I should get (Johansson) while I've got my credit card out (besides the twofer you mentioned above)?
  20. I guess they were wrong about the twofer then. And, I keep forgetting about CDon. Thanks for the link again. My wallet, my wallet, my wallet. *groan*
  21. Thanks, but I don't think it is what I meant. There's some sort of remastered/expanded twofer coming out (end October?/November?) ... I read it on some odd jazz list I received from a website in DK that has gone offline. I checked my usual Danish mail order sources, but so far nothin g is listed.
