Germans win European IQ scores
neveronfriday replied to brownie's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
If the French were to finally move down from those trees, a) they would develop larger brains and b) they could keep all the tourists out who wouldn't visit anymore. -
I think it causes cancer. Actually, I'm sure it does.

I hope the one who suggested this great idea is OK. Best wishes, NOF. I'm not going until beginning of next week, but I have to plan and wrap up lots of stuff before I leave. That's why I won't be around much. But thanks for asking and the good wishes. I'm sure things will turn out alright. Cheers! P.S.: I hope Jim will get some serious money this way. He's not going to get rich, but my hope is that it will help cover the substantial costs of running such a board as this. If members here try their best to shop via the search bar, things should turn out well after a while.

The easy way to support the organissimo forums...

Cool! -
Had the same today, but it's much better now. Several PMs I sent didn't make it through - now it works again.

Jim (and everyone), although it might not be that popular (and it makes life a bit more difficult), let me suggest a route of income that might really help out. I've run several sites in my life and lately I've been making quite a bit of money off the Amazon associate programme (surprisingly much with very few links). If I think about the number of CDs I bought via recommendations here, you could have made several hundred bucks just off my purchases. Now, I'm off to the hospital very soon for an unknown amount of time, but here's, quickly, how it could work: a) Set up one (!) associate account for amazon.us (and maybe one for the other countries) and mail the account data to those people wishing to use it/helping you post the links. b) Then, for example, start a central repository thread in which all the recommended CDs are posted (if someone recommends one, he/she should make sure it is included there) and specifically refer to that threat or ask people to use it when purchasing. Not everyone will do so, but I'm sure many people here would, just to support this great board. c) Start making money. The problem is creating the links on the associate pages. You have to have a normal amazon window open, copy the link to any CD, stick it into a text field on the associate page and then copy out the generated link. That link you can either post directly in the Organissimo "sales" thread or shorten it via TinyUrl and then post it. Everyone that clicks and buys something will make you money. If you have three/four people helping you out with this, it's easy. A concerted effort is necessary though because you, Jim, will probably not have the time. So, anyone posting a recommendation can try to make sure the CD is included in the sales list and can refer readers to that thread via a post scriptium, or whatever. If already some "oldtimers" who want to help out do this, it should generate some cash. Other possibilities: People could have some CDs in their signatures linking to the associate pages, etc. The possibilities are endless if everyone is a bit creative. I have less than 20 links on my site that are referral links. I didn't think I was making any money until I got a mail the other day that since the middle of February, I had made about $250. Many of my readers bought via my site. And kudos to them. Think about it before dismissing it. Gotta go (and will only be around sporadically for a few days/weeks), but I'm sure we have members here that could maybe help out with the technical details here. Best, nof Excuse typos (I'm virtually blind at the moment, and I'm not kidding.) Edit: One of Germany's bigger DVD forums is making a ton of money this way. And I mean tons. They have several thousand users and have a (minimum) 4-digit (maximum) 5-digit income EACH MONTH by supplying regularly updated shopping threads!

micro-review of the Buddy Rich set
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Can't add much that hasn't been said yet. a) Very good (!) sound on my stereo. b) Being a drummer myself, I only mind some solos that are a bit too much on the "fireworks" side. c) I was pleasantly surprised by the overall value of this set. I'm glad I bought it. -

That Universal.fr site is just horrible. Godawful. Slow. Loaded with useless javascript. A crummy search function. Half the script calls send you straight into bits & bytes nirvana. One of the worst sites I've ever seen. Crap. -

I have the whole series (can't find #1 anymore on the Net) hanging in my hallway. I really like these, especially if you invest into some decent frames to match these high-quality prints. -
Live and let live. I only have standard Miles Davis stuff that I thought I should have, and I enjoy it, but I've stayed away from these box sets because I'm not completist. I just don't dig it that much. But fans there are thousands of, so why not let them have what they want to hear? And I've never subscribed to the theory that only the artist has the right to decide what the audience should get to hear. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms. People also often forget that music is a collectable item. Maybe the author above has a collection of some sorts, and I'm sure he wouldn't object to a collector's item which was originally not intended for the market place. So, don't buy it if you think it's excessive but don't tell fans of Miles Davis' music what they should be allowed to have or hear and what not.

And they sent me three ? I called and told them I wanted to return them and then, instead of sending return stickers, I get one more. I now have 4 (four) Stax #2 here. I should think I've got my Stax bases well covered. -

Thanks for the links. Great stuff. -
In my country lowering the standards seems to be easier than a realignment of the educational system. Therefore, it has never been easier getting a high school diploma and entering university .. and that's where the problems then start. Payin g teachers more is not going to help much, if at all. What JSngry wrote above pretty much also sums it up for our educational system here (or anywhere else, I would think, minus one or two countries here or there). Unfortunately, it is utopian thinking. Sad.

I have seen them in several Paris stores. Some stores have them available for around €7. I have also seen them on sale for around €10! I meant the shop described above. This Membran series is all over the place by now.

If you live in Germany, there's a shop run by physically and mentally challenged people in Hamburg ( http://www.cd-lp-dvd.de/ ) that sells these for 7 Euro each. No postage if your order is above 30 Euro. They are not a full-scale online shop, but I've tried to support them in the past. Link to the series: Membran Series I have no idea if they sell outside of Germany, but I don't think so ... or it might be a lot more expensive. Firmly tongue in cheek, the organization behind this shop calls itself "Wackelpeter" ("Jello") in reference to some of the shakes, wobbly movement etc. that the employees or office workers have to live with. They are a great bunch of people and I try to drop by the shop whenever I'm in Hamburg. For many working there it was the only place to find a job and they try their damn best to help their customers. P.S.: Because they simply can't compete with any of the bigger chains, they only have some of the budget series and sometimes a really odd assortment of products. As far as I can recall, they only have the Membran/Documents/TIM cheapo series ... but they also sell them cheap.

Yep. Same problem here in Germany.

I was stupid enough to add two Stax Vol. 2 to my basket without reading/noticing the fact in I don't know how many "are you sure that is what you want" windows and e-mails. Duh. Duh. Duh.
