You only have 200? You're lying through your teeth.

I think this program did not live up to the standard set by ARTE in the past. Whoever edited this thing (some German dudes) must have smoked a load of crack before reluctantly getting the job done. Jazz fans just seem to be happy about anything that shows their favorite music, just because not much can be had on TV. I wonder what fans of other music would say if parts of songs were edited out and the program sequencing appeared utterly mindless. Disappointing to the max for me and more or less a waste of time.

Count me in, definitely. Finally someone who doesn't blame me for it either.

Harddrive manufacturers suck...

Don't buy a Dell system. Their service in Europe has been "outsourced" to people who don't really speak any of the EU languages properly and who are told to be absolute blockheads. I already had a mail from Dell management which stated that because the disks had failed for the second time in a few months, they should be replaced by a different brand (BTW: large Maxtor disks above 150GB show a major decline in quality control as well), but nobody had told the technical service department. It took me almost 45 minutes to talk the guy into doing what his bosses had already decided. Also the last time the disks had to be exchanged, the Dell technician (same guy, btw, somewhere in the Czech Republic) didn't believe me the disks were shot (or simply didn't understand subject-predicate-object sentences of the simplest kind) and it took two technician runs to my place (one without replacement disks, one with) to get things fixed. Had I not insisted now on getting things done right, the same thing would have happened again ... and I would have lost another day in a phase in which I NEED the stupid machine just about every minute. This was my second Dell PC and my last. At least in Europe they have started to suck majorly. With my first PC, which ran for a very long time and did not have major trouble, the two service calls I had were dealt with by different people much more efficiently. Today they treat everyone like DPUs (dumbest possible users) on the phone , albeit with (fake) friendliness. They WILL NOT diverge from the routine, not an inch, even after it should be clear to any DPT (dumbest possible technician) that the system is screwed up majorly. They suck. And my disks are getting progessively shot. I'll spend the rest of my current PC time surfing the forums here. There better be something good to read. -

This is unbelievable. The second set of WD disks in my Raid system died on me a few weeks after being replaced. This time I managed to backup everything before, but what a bummer. Do those disks suck or do I keep getting mine from the bottom of the pile? Jesus. Despite the backups, there go another two days to get everything up and running again ... once I get the disks replaced next week. I don't have a recent enough partition image to put back on ... the disks went down the drain while I was making that set (with nearly 280 GByte, that takes a whole lot of backup space and of course, drive C:\ had to malfunction at around 92% of the backup process. This sucks! I'll be back in a week or so because technical support won't be back at work until Monday morning, technician here on Tuesday, settting up for a day or two, ... bummer. Lots of time to listen to jazz .... -
It sucks. There. That wasn't so difficult.

Am I still allowed to listen to this one? Excellent music not only to listen to but also to design to (=work). Am enjoying the hell out of this CD. Thanks guys. The new one I will pick up soon. Clap Yo' Hands!

Any suggestions for best photo restoration
neveronfriday replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Photo touch-up software will NOT get you the results you want. You need photo touch-up software handled by a pro. BTW: I've had an old photo of my grandma (colors faded on cheap print) restored by a pro who did much of the work manually (cleaned it up digitally, then went at it with pens (!?), brushes (?), airbrush (?)). No matter what, the result was stunning(ly expensive). I gave it to my mom for her 65th birthday. Her smile was well-worth the money I invested. Today it's the only thing allowed to stand on her grand piano. -
Tell me why I should get the Buddy Rich set?
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Buddy Rich is drumming history, no matter what one thinks about him. Consider this to be in support of the American heritage. History. Classic. SWING! Carter, Newman, Webster? Get it! -
Hope it'll be a while until you need this gadget (no porn button, sorry). Continue having a great one! Happy birthday!

A great musician.

Jazz Blogs
neveronfriday replied to Leeway's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Hm. Each one of those has its merits. And I've seen tons of blogs that do their stuff a lot better than newsgroups and bulletin boards ... just not in the jazz field: . In the field of web design with standards (CSS/XHML), for example, some weblogs show a lot more attention to detail and persistance whereas some of the big newsgroups, forums and whatnot often get derailed along the way (some discussions here on the big O are also a good example). When you get too many cooks around the pot, the dish does not automatically improve. -
i guess you gonna kill me b/c of that

That's my favorite jazz blog out there. I hope he can keep it up ... too many have disappeared into net static. -
This is where I lost my virginity. That program is amazing. I actually managed to map out my entire life besides on one continent where the images for the places I lived are simply not there yet, meaning they are blurry as hell.

Weirdo LP scored that turned out great?

That would be Faulkner in an "As I Lay Dying" kind of vein?

Thanks!

Stupid, ignorant question () : was the Monk (#101) the first Mosaic collection? Or were there collections with lower numbers? Why #101, if it was the first?

The guy has tons of (intelligent) humor. Would be nice to see him posting again.

I'd love to have the "stolen" cymbal up on my wall ...

Oops. Sorry. I didn't know there was a thread on this already. I'm just not around here often enough.
