Hasn't B3er been more than busy with other things lately? And rightfully so? Seems like some mice like to dance on the tables despite knowing that. Cheers!

Mosaic distributed in Europe
neveronfriday replied to ASNL77's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Correction: They do have a website, but normally you only get a link to it to check the status of your order (which is totally useless as the same info is e-mailed to you anyway). http://www.caiman.com/ They've got a cute crocodile though. As John said, you gotta hit Amazon to see what Caiman has to offer. Cheers! -
If I recall correctly, there was a number of other great jazz musicians and producers that had to take a barrage of negativity - it has become trendy as of late on this board. Sad to see. And no, I'm not defending any type of abuse. I think it's just weird how, usually without any advance warning, this negative stuff pops up out of nowhere, as if everyone needed to know this to understand the music better. Weird. Edit: I should add (to avoid the flames) that I was not talking about the WM thread, although it does fall into the same pattern. Edit numero two-o: Have to add writers to the list. Forgot about Arthur Miller being crapped on as well.

Any jazz recordings with a recorder?
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Recommendations
I'd be very interested in getting hold of those tunes. Any chance? Cheers! -
Not an old topic. I think the past two days showed that it is a problem. And it is a few select people who are responsible for the problem. Cheers!

cabarnet and Oscar Peterson
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Get the "Exclusively" set. Many parts of it I like better than the Blue Note live set (and I really do like that one). Reason? It's got that intimacy (some of the recordings sound like the trio were practically sitting on each other and if you look at photos from those sessions, it was like that as well.) and much of it is OP at his best. As an aside. I remember reading that the Exclusively sessions took place in the intimate setting because of contractual obligations. OP was not allowed to perform outside of contracts before larger audiences, so the German producer set it up as a private concert in his living room for friends, recording everything with his equipment upstairs. There is another disc which collects stuff that wasn't on the original box set, but it is only partially good. Cheers! -

Thanks Late and Michael. I'll follow those leads when I have the time, probably this weekend. Cheers! -

Any jazz recordings with a recorder?
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Recommendations
Thanks Randy. I've heard most of Rodney's stuff (the friend mentioned above has a totally extensive collection of just about all [it seems] recorded recorder music [now, that one sounds strange]. The shakuhachi influence also gives this, albeit very interesting music, an esoteric touch (btw, I have a whole bunch of Denon etc. shakuhachi recordings (Tosha Suiho, for example, who pretty much freely improvises in natural settings, inside of monasteries, etc. ... fascinating stuff)) or pushes it into the world music corner. I'm looking more along the way of, dare I say it, recorder jazz with a West Coast influence or sth along those lines. Cheers! -

Any jazz recordings with a recorder?
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Recommendations
Thanks, guy, but I was looking for sth more upbeat. I have that one and, frankly, I have to agree with you. I'm looking for a real jazz vibe, also with someone who's actually good at playing the instrument. Cheers! -
Gay penguins won't go straight
neveronfriday replied to Phil Meloy's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I adopted rock when I was around 13 years old. I went straight again when I turned 21, or so. There's hope yet for those penguins (although if SWEDISH female penguins couldn't affect a change, probably nothing will). Cheers! -
Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any recordings (jazz) which in any way feature the recorder? I'm trying to get some recommendations for a master of the instrument. We had a talk the other day and wondered if such a thing actually existed. Any recommendations or hints are welcome. Thanks & Cheers!

True. They just should have kept her in an institution. Sorry, I'm not usually this harsh, but in this case ... -
A stupid CD question about scuffs, scratches, etc.
neveronfriday replied to Peggy-Ann's topic in Audio Talk
I smoke. Without exception, my CDs are fine. All of them are, ever since I started the year they put out Cds the first time. (83?/84? somewhere around there) If at all, my CDs sound better because of the patina they have acquired (I'm sure some Hi-Fi freaks smoke onto their CDs regularly). Cheers! -

I didn't see anything on the Telarc site about the box being remastered, but the Chicago Tribune review excerpt quoted on the site refers to extra tracks in the box. I haven't compared the tracks in the box to the original single CD's, so I have no idea if there are any extra in the box. And I can't compare the sound since I don't have the original CD's. I, too, have other Oscar Peterson CD's not previously mentioned in this thread, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere--Oscar's been quite prolific, and apparently is still going strong. Yes, yes and yes. I have noticed though that his post-stroke material that was recorded recently (the live DVD from Austria, for example) shows some serious deficiencies (especially after repeated viewings). In the beginning I was amazed that he could still play, but on that DVD you can see the kind of total blunders that show and the way his close buddies (in a positive sense) cover all the holes in OP's playing. At times I just cringed. Sad to see, although, again, it is amazing how he can still get it together somewhat and how much love and support he gets from a dedicated audience. Sorry to say, but I think he should stop recording, no matter how much I like/love much of his stuff. Cheers! -

I am a teacher myself. I can maybe (abstractly) understand how sth like that could possibly happen, but it's still sick. The guy was 12 years old! I know we've been over this, but no teacher should be allowed to abuse his authority and power like that. Sorry, but totally sick. The lady's got a serious mental problem. Cheers! -
Hey Skid! Look what comes out tomorrow!
neveronfriday replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous Music
A bit off topic, but I have a KISS album that actually glows red when you expose it to light (I've been looking all over the Net trying to find out what kind of collectors' item this is, but I have never found one single reference to it. It has all the standard tags and copyright text the normal album has, but it does glow. And, I've never seen any other LP that does that. For all I know, it is a Tchernobyl pressing). The sound sucks (it's some sort of odd black vinyl that also looks red if you hold it against the light). Maybe I can finance the Complete Dinah Washington on Mercury with that thing? Or maybe a house? God knows. Cheers! Edit: This one: -

Yep, and I think we have at least 90% the same sentiments when it comes to Styx. The 10% left over might just be at what we cringe when. Maybe we should compare notes one day. Cheers! -

The only song I still like is "Renegade". We had some hairy parties at which this song (plus lots of Santana, Doobies, Neil Young, etc.) usually popped up. Styx = memories. Fond ones. I do have the live DVD (Return to Paradise Theatre, or whatever). Cost me a $, no more, and I have had a song or two on in the past years (Usually after a couple of glasses of Venezuelean rum.). The problem with that DVD is, Im sorry to say, that they play the stuff well but they do look a bit geeky throughout. It's the way I would feel, if I had to do the same stupid stuff at parties today that I did way back when. Excellent drumming, btw, on that DVD. Cheers! -

I have all of the above. Plus lots more. I'm thinking of purchasing the Blue Note live box although I have all the original Telarc CDs, simply because the Telarc site said the box set was remastered. Anyone able to confirm that (and that it's worth getting the whole shebang again)?
