Today I received an e-mail announcing a special AGM from DESS to discuss dissolution of DESS. Reason being the dwindling number of members. 136 at time of writing. The rising cost of producing the DESS bulletin. The rising age of those in charge and the failure to attract younger members. The bylaws stipulate that the decision of the dissolution must be taken at two consecutive AGM's. The first will be 24 November 2025 and the second no later than 31 March 2026. A sad but inevitable decision. I'll be voting for dissolution not because I want it to end but because it is the only reasonable thing to do. The mail ends with quoting a Duke Ellington song “If you were in my place, what would you do?”

I burned what would have been Duke Ellington Masters of Jazz vol. 13 for myself. After playing vol. 1 to 12 I finish with vol. 13. Vol 14 and further are on the 2 Mosaic boxes and the big RCA box. For me no need to burn more CD's.

Bob Crosby Mosaic Mentioned on Jazz Messengers

Maybe the word Fake should be removed from the tread title. -
With an hour to go the match ended in a draw. I think Lestershire could have won. With 12 overs to go Middlesex needed ad least 6 runs per over. Doable but not impossible. This was my first visit to a countyshampionship match. Mixed feelings with so much time lost to rain. Next year I plan one earlier in the year. Maybe Yorkshire.

It’s just past 10:00. The sun is comming through. The covers are comming off. The players are warming up. The umpires will inspect the pitch at 10:15. At the moment it looks like we might have a matchday from the start. Lancashire trail by 106. With the loss of day one and all the interruptions I don’t see the second innings happen. My guess is it will be a draw.

"DIY By Ellington: Duke Ellington's Mercer Records Label"
miles65 replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
And part of it is Great Times Duke Ellington Billy Strayhorn (OJCCD 108-2). I love this CD but it would have been even better if it had been a 2 CD set with the vocal tracks on CD 2. All recordings are on Duke Ellington Classics 1191 1949-1950, 1217 1950, 1258 1950-1951, 1282 1951 and 1300 Al Hibler 1950-1952. The Alternate take of Moonlight Fiesta is on the Prestige CD.- 12 replies

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
miles65 replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion
Mozart Horn Quintet in E K407. From Mozart 225 CD 49 I just love his horn music. -
I have CD's from London 2008 with Ellington in London 1958 and New York 2016 with Hurricane Broadcasts from 1943-44 from the Timme Rozencrantz archive. Ken Steiner produced a booklet 'Wild Throng Dances Madly in Cellar Club' for the 2008 conference. It is a chronical with press clippings from 1923-1927. It contains a lot of information not in Tuckers book.

I've got a 4 day ticket for Lancs vs. Middlesex at the real Old Trafford in September. Hoping to see Jimmy Anderson bowl.

My often played copy is not perfect. It has hiccups during 'Hittin' the bottle' take. It's not a disaster if the booklet is missing. I have that. But the CD must be perfect. I also looked at Discogs and other websides to no avail. International I use Paypal. Within Europe I can also pay by bank transfer (IBAN)

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
miles65 replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Vanguard set. Disc 6. I was underwhelmed by the first 2 discs. i can't put my finger on it why. Sir Charles Thompson has a good session. Joe Newman session great. Buck Clayton never disappoints me. Neither does Jimmy Rushing. Sound quality is great.
