I'll play in the playoff pool if it gets set up. This was fun, thanks for having me! Even though I either went too conservative or too wild, and never got into a rhythm, it was still a good time! -
As Big Al's alluded to, some of us are Cowboy fans in spite of the owner. Probably most that fall in this category have been fans since long before Jerry Jones rode into town on his wildcat. I actually thought they'd lose too, but I thought they'd at least show up and make a respectable showing, since there actually was something still on the line. My guess would have been a 24-17 score or something like that, with a typical Romo interception that sealed their fate. Not like the steaming pile of manure that showed up in Cowboys uniforms.

Same condition as what? Do you have a jazz cd in the player? Don't forget to take it out, unless you want to Pay It Forward. -
Happy Late one!

I didn't get my kids until 8:30 pm today, so they unwrapped their gifts late. Going to visit family tomorrow. Just being around my kids is my swag.

The Tower in Austin had a whole ROOM devoted to jazz (& classical I believe, my memory is getting rusty). Those were the golden days, and we didn't even know it.

You're welcome! More than just the code may be expiring before long though. Somebody on the SH Forum just commented that BMG is no longer accepting new members as of today. Their website is suggesting that people go check out Yourmusic instead. I wonder how much longer BMG/Yourmusic has.

You mean Rivers, not Brees I think. And yes, I think they're playing well finally. If they get in, they'll be a force to be reckoned with. I hope LT still has something left in the tank though.

Amazingly, the Cowboys control their destiny. If they beat the Eagles, they're in the playoffs. If not, they're done. So effectively the Eagles game is a playoff game for them. And I'm not so sure they beat the Cardinals head to head. The Cards beeat the Cowboys earlier this season already, 30-24, though it was an OT game. As far as their talent, I am not so sure Romo's already topped out. This may be the best he ever gets. His decision making is questionable at times, and I don't see that they've worked with him at all on that since Parcells left. T.O. is on the downward side of his career, so it would make sense to trade him if you could get anything in return. They've committed to Roy Williams, so they need to work him into the offense, I think at Owens' expense. Their offensive line needs improvement, and the defensive secondary - mainly the safetys - needs work too. The underachieving is a reflection on the coaching. I don't think there's a coach on the team that is a long term answer either. Better to overhaul the staff with a Cowher or Holmgren at the top, and - here's the key - let them hire their own staff and let them be in charge, unlike now.

I'm curious about a few things - * additional Sonny Rollins live recordings * the Frisell/Hall collaboration (i know it's out, but it will be '09 before I get to it) * John Scofield's Piety Street album * Porcupine Tree's next album * would like to see King Crimson re-convene for a studio recording * would like to see Genesis tour with Gabriel/Hackett

I agree Matthew. In the Cowboys' case, Garrett was hired by Jerry Jones prior to the hiring of Wade Phillips as head coach. There was the potential for him at the time to have been head coach, had Jones not hired anyone else. I think Garrett is intelligent, and perhaps will make a head coach, but I'm not sure he's that good of an offensive coordinator. He had one really good year last year, when the Cowboys went 13-3, but in retrospect it might have been luck, or simply good playing by the offense regardless of the plays called. Garrett's star is definitely not shining as bright anymore though. Was Mora hired to be the next head coach after Holmgren had already announced his retirement? I don't really get the thinking either way.

Yes and yes. A QB is only as effective as his offensive line lets him be. Of course, having Butterfingers Owens on your team doesn't help, either. I agree. There's plenty of blame to go around, as Jim has also mentioned. Romo had a bad night, as did Owens, who quit on some routes and didn't catch a few that were catchable again. The offensive scheme was questionable, play calling was bad, and Wade Phillips seemed very reactive (like his shocked face when the Ravens faked the field goal). It wouldn't bother me if Phillips & Jason Garrett both got pink slips, as well as Brian Stewart, if he's anything more than DC in name. And the offensive line coach. Hell, all the coaches. Jerry Jones screwed up, again.

Congrats to the Ravens. They played with heart, and rookie Joe Flacco outplayed Romo, with maybe an equivalent offensive line and fewer weapons. Ugly, ugly loss. Cowboys' offense didn't show up, except for Tashard Choice. And the defense was on the field too long. At the end they couldn't tackle to save their lives. The blame for this loss falls squarely on Romo's shoulders though. Sad way to close out the Texas Stadium era.

Found both of these on vinyl in a used store this afternoon. Freddie Hubbard/Stanley Turrentine - In Concert Vol 1 (CTI) Sun Ra - St. Louis Blues (...produced by Paul Bley) As well as Jon Hassell's "Power Spot" on cd. Is that the only appearance of Brian Eno on an ECM recording?
