Sport: 2007 NBA Play-Offs Pool
Aggie87 replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I think the Amare & Diaw suspensions are BS myself, and I"m a Spurs fan. I think Horry is deserving of a suspension, maybe. Or maybe not. His ejection (and a fine) might have been enough, for a hard foul. I don't have a problem with his suspension though. Here's the comment on SI.com about the Duncan thing, from Stu Jackson, the NBA's guy that deals with the suspensions and stuff: -

I agree. Going down 3-1 to the Spurs would have almost completely sealed the series. Now it's 2-2, and the Suns have the homecourt advantage again. I can see this going 7 games. If the Jazz win tonight, they'll have quite a nice little break before the next round. -

Thanks, Allen. -
Not a bad racket there, getting paid rent money (and over-charging at that!) for property you don't own. I wonder how many other apartments he "owned".

I like No Man alot. Took me a while to get used to Bowness' voice, but the music is very good. Early on, PT was considered SW's "other" band, as No Man was the big, promising thing. Kind of like a poppy version of Blackfield/PT. Get "Together We're Stranger" if you like "Returning Jesus". "Flowermouth" is also good. The Bass Communion stuff is different from No Man and the rest of SW's offerings. It's not song-based or structured music.

Check out the already ongoing discussion. Sounds like an interesting read. -
It's interesting - very Bass-Communion-y. This is part 4 of a series of releases, where Vidna Obmana took source sounds and used them to create ambient music. The "vocals" by SW aren't vocals per se. Vidna Obmana (or whatever his real name is) took some samples of SW's voice and used that as the basis for the ambient music. To the point where you wouldn't know it's SW's voice if his name wasn't on the front. I'd explore some of the Bass Communion things first, and if you like those, check this one out. It's kind of like Robert Fripp's soundscapes, in that you don't really get harmony and melody, so (for me anyway) your ears have to get used to hearing this music differently.

Cheap foul on Nash by Big Shot Bob last night. Not sure what will come of all that. Stoudemire is worried he'll be suspended for coming off the bench to aid Nash, but his argument is that he was just getting up to get back in the game. Will be interesting to see what the league decides, and since Game 5 is tomorrow night, it should be a quick decision. The Spurs shooting when cold at the end, and with Duncan having 5 fouls, they weren't as aggressive defensively either. The Suns played well at the end, and are turning this into a rivalry. -

I'm gonna request "The Pina Colada Song" when I make it up to the Continental Club next time. -
You'll have to let us know how those Bass Communion records are. I'll post my impressions in the Porcupine Tree thread, so all the Steve Wilson stuff appears in one place. I also ordered bass communion - Ghosts on Magnetic Tape, which I didn't see yesterday when I placed my order. I think you'll like all of it. The BC stuff is minimal ambient music, so it's really different from anything else SW is involved in. I like Ghosts the best, but they're all good. And IEM is a blast! You'll want the other two IEM recordings after hearing this one, I'm pretty sure.

That lineup is for the Sarah Vaughn release, similarly titled, not the new Ella release...

Even if it IS only one part of the equation, the fact that it IS part of the equation is enough in itself. Increasing muscle-mass contributes to hitting the ball with more force, causing it to travel farther. Nice to see you're finally concurring that it is part of the equation for a power hitter. Ever heard of a rhetorical question?

You're about to find out, judging by one of your other posts in a different thread. SW has it on his myspace page, so I linked to it on mine.

I agree - they were giving us views like we were in the cheap seats alot of times, from the other side of the court. -

Yeah. If that was intentional, that's pretty crappy. On the other hand, if he was only trying to clear space (a move everyone in the NBA does when the defender is belly-to-belly with ya), and it was inadvertent, then it's just physical playing on both sides. -

Should have been a foul call on that play, doncha think? edit - there have been a ton of non-calls tonight against both teams. -
Every other poster...? That would be 50% right? I'm OK with that. You know what I meant, now you're being ridiculous. You wouldn't defend Bonds as strongly as you are now, and you know it. No sense in debating something as obvious as Bonds' steroid use with someone who has his Fanboy blinders on.
-
Does it strike you as funny that every other poster on this board disagrees with you? It would be fascinating to me to see if you would defend Bonds as vigorously if he had played his whole career in Pittsburgh, or Tampa Bay or somewhere. Somehow i doubt it. Seriously, seriously doubt it.

I haven't downloaded anything from there, but have been tempted once or twice. The only thing I really want that's available there right now is the "IEM have come for your Children" release. I've got it on vinyl, but really want the CD too. Goes for too much when it pops up on Ebay though. I'm hopeful it gets an eventual reissue. That live PT Rockpalast show is tempting too. Also, I just read that on the current tour, Seattle and Portland sold out. And Boulder, Toronto, and the 17 May Chicago show is also sold out.

I've listened to Signify & Insignificance back to back today, and may repeat. Signify hit me today really well for some reason, and has a wonderful closing track in Dark Matter. And some of the demos on Insignificance are fascinating, could have easily been released as is. Maybe it's because I just hadn't listened to this one in a while, or maybe because my ears are more used to the harder, more aggressive sound of PT's current music, but Signify is the sound of the PT I love - it's the perfect blend of the spacy (I hate to use that word), atmospheric sound combined with the driving guitars. Sometimes I think they've gone too far away from that blend into the metal world. Other days the new stuff hits me fine. I guess it's a good kind of problem in a way.
