  3. Thanks for clearing that up....who are you??? Why, he's Dubya! Don't you trust him?
  4. Here's a first (that I know of): YMB2G1 - Buy 2, Get 1 Free at yourmusic!
  5. Is there really that much of a market for new Grant Green (or whomever) listeners to justify the additional expense of recurring new releases? I'd be surprised. I'd almost think there'd be as much profit in simply releasing the reissues that are clamored for by the more committed fans than the constant compilations.
  6. I don't get this point - once you've put out one good comp, why keep putting out additional ones over and over? Isn't the one good enough? Aren't you just confusing the people who aren't familiar with the artist by doing so, and possibly losing sales?
  7. I know these aren't targeted for the people who actually already like Grant Green. Maybe part of the frustration is that there will be yet another GG compilation in another 12 months, and one shortly after that. While the stuff the rest of us would like sits there, and sits there. I'm all for having one (or maybe two - a single and a double) compilation out on the market. But why keep reissuing compilation after compilation? If I'm new to Grant's music, how am I going to decide which of the 6 compilations is the "best" one for me to get anyway?
  8. It looks like one person crouching down doing something to another person.

    Hal Russell

Bump - Just picked up the "Hal Russell Story" recently, and am enjoying it alot! I like the Nessa dates I have as well (this first one and "Generations"), and also the more recent Delmark issue "This is My House". Any plans for a cd issue of "Eftsoons" any time, Chuck?
  11. I don't have one for sale, but there's one on the Amazon Marketplace for $42. Or the regular Amazon price is $49 with free shipping. Not a bad price for a good box set either way.
  12. Ok ok, one more: There was an Aggie that was down on his luck. In order to raise some money he decided to kidnap a kid and hold him for ransom. He went to the playground, grabbed a kid, took him behind a tree and told him, "I've kidnapped you." The Aggie wrote a note saying "I've kidnapped your kid. Tomorrow morning, put $10,000 in a paper bag and put it beneath the pecan tree next to the slide on the north side of the city playground. Signed, An Aggie." The Aggie then pinned the note to the kid's shirt and sent him home to show it to his parents. The next morning the Aggie checked, and sure enough a paper bag was sitting beneath that pecan tree. The Aggie opened up the bag and found the $10,000 with a note. The note said, "How could one Aggie do this to another Aggie?"
  13. Ok - one Aggie joke for the day: A Texas Tech graduate, a University of Texas grad and a Texas Aggie were sitting in a bar in San Antonio. The view of the river was fantastic, the beer was ice cold and the food exceptional. "But," said the guy from Tech, "I still prefer the beer joints back in Lubbock. There's one place where the owner goes out of his way for the locals. When you buy 4 beers, he will buy the 5th." The Longhorn said "Well, at my local bar in Austin, the owner will buy your 3rd drink after you've bought 2." "Hell, that's nothin'," the Aggie responded. "Back in College Station there's this bar where the moment you set foot in the place they'll buy you a drink and keep them coming all night. Then when you've had enough to drink, they take you upstairs and see that you get laid. And it's all on the house." The Red Raider and the Longhorn immediately doubted the Aggie's claims. "And this actually happened to you?" asked the Tech grad. "No, not myself personally," admitted the Aggie. "But it did happen to my sister."
  14. I'm interested in the Werner - good set of musicians on that one - Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Brian Blade, & Scott Colley. Had some pretty positive comments in this thread, and the one linked in it as well.
  15. I'm on my second spin of The Collectable King Crimson Vol 2. This one includes the first performance from the Fripp/Belew/Levin/Bruford lineup, at Moles Club, Bath, 30 April 1981. They hadn't begun calling themselves King Crimson yet, but were going by "Discipline". The sound quality is just ok on this show, as it wasn't a soundboard recording, but the performance is great. The second disc is a July 82 show from Philadelphia, in excellent sound. The band sounds great. Well worth picking up.
  16. Also: Madeline Peyroux - Half the Perfect World Wynton Marsalis - From the Plantation to the Penitentiary Kenny Werner - Lawn Chair Society Viktor Krauss II Lou Donaldson - Lush Life Andy Narell - Tatoom
  17. Maybe this is a sign you should do a Philly Joe Jones cover tune on your next release.
  18. The fact that there are other places to talk about blues/rock/etc on the web isn't a valid argument. All sorts of non-jazz topics exist on this board - classical, rock, pop, non-music, politics, religion, etc. Heck, there are quite a few board members who almost exclusively post and argue in the politics forum, and there are plenty of other places on the web for that to be done as well.
  19. Gibson - WOW! Maybe Cleveland has some scoring alternatives after all!
  20. That odd clock delay seemed to hurt Cleveland. They had alot of momentum at the end of the first, and didn't get that back after the 20 minute break.
  21. Maybe you can give it away to one of your numerous babe-a-licious MySpace Friends. You think any of them like John Zorn? Actually, you think any of them have ever heard of John Zorn?
  22. Bill Frisell recording update: Floratone: "Bill has just finished a long-term, studio-intensive collaborative project entitled Floratone with drummer Matt Chamberlain and producers Lee Townsend and Tucker Martine featuring deep grooves, glistening melodies, ambient atmospheres and a rich panoply of guitar solos and textures. String and horn colors are provided courtesy of special guests Viktor Krauss, Ron Miles and Eyvind Kang. It will be released on Blue Note Records on August 14th. Stay tuned for more details soon." Also - "Frisell's fall '06 tour with the Unspeakable Orchestra and special guests was recorded for Bill's next Nonesuch album. In this extended ensemble, Frisell explores a fuller palette of orchestral colors and timbres than any he has previously written for. The group premiered new Frisell compositions as well as his recent arrangements of favorite pieces by other songwriters. The Unspeakable Orchestra members joining Bill are: Jenny Scheinman, violin; Eyvind Kang, viola; Hank Roberts, cello; Tony Scherr, bass, Kenny Wollesen, drums and special guests Ron Miles (trumpet) and Greg Tardy (clarinet and tenor saxophone). Producer Lee Townsend and engineer Shawn Pierce accompanied the group on the tour to record. Additional studio recording and shaping of the material will be undertaken in the next few months."
