Petition: Make Ogre-sized M&M's Standard!!
Aggie87 replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I hope this ain't the inside of your car... ...or else you that m&m may start causing you to hallucinate. -
Okay, I gotta admit Myles isn't very intimidating! Though that vampire-cat that appears to be sucking his blood certainly is!!! Maybe you can sic the cat on her instead??
-
Somehow I'm guessing Myles would have a little more success "coaxing" the office manager into returning the money? I think Jennifer's too cute to do much intimidating!
-
...and the Rocket was going to retire?? 7-0, best start in the majors!!! Though he's got a ways to go to match his best start ever, 14-0 in 1986.
-
...just wait until the frogs start falling from the sky, then we're REALLY in trouble!!
-
Okay Rachel, I'm there! First stop Austin, to pick up Lon & Brandon, then up to DFW for JSngry & Big Al - anyone else I'm forgetting? Probably have to swing by KC on the way up to pick up Rooster and the crew in that area (gotta fill up this VW minibus, right??)

According to the Sopranos Mob Name Generator, I'm "Gandhi Mangler". Talk about a split personality! edit: Upon reflection, I can't think of a more menacing nickname! I was just reading it wrong. I'm an enforcer who "dispatches" Gandhi's!! Could I BE more intimidating??

My favorite is probably "Return of the Candyman", with Stefon Harris on vibes. Coming in second on my list is his "Natty Dread" album in the Blue Note covers series. I haven't heard his past couple of discs (including the one with Norah Jones guesting), so I'm not sure if his style has changed too much. He also did a couple of TJ Kirk albums, dedicated to playing the musis of Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and Roland Kirk. I've got one of these, and it's a fun listen. Although his sound can be kind of "sparse", I think it would be fascinating to see him play that 8-string guitar...

My local 1/2 Price Book store has an old cd copy of Castles of Ghana for $3.00, I believe. I've picked it up and looked it over every time I've been in there, but always found something I was more knowledgeable about, and ended up getting that instead. Gonna have to go back and get this one. Been meaning to ask about this title for a while now, thanks for pushing me in the right direction! (on the other hand, for $3.00 why did I even hesitate, right??) -Erik

Krispy Kreme: Diets hurt doughnut sales
Aggie87 replied to Aggie87's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Personally I think they're successful because of their stores, not necessarily their donuts. My kids have fun going in there and seeing the donuts being made. It's kind of like going to those car washes where you can observe your car going through the cleaning process, watching it move down the conveyor. Of course the fact that they offer you a free sample doesn't hurt, nor does the freebie paper hats for the kids. -

Chain operator says low-carb craze eats into demand, sees 2005 profit 10% below forecasts. NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - It seems the long-standing relationship between diets and doughnuts may be coming to an end. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. said Friday its first-quarter profit will come in below Wall Street's estimates and its 2005 profit will be 10 percent lower than previously estimated as consumer interest in low-carbohydrate diets hurts demand for doughnuts. "This [low-carb] phenomenon has affected us most heavily in our off-premises sales channels, in particular sales of packaged doughnuts to grocery store customers," company CEO Scott Livengood said in a statement. For the just-ended fiscal first quarter, the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based company said it now estimates earnings from continuing operations, excluding asset impairment charges, of about 23 cents per share. Analysts, on average, had been looking for 27 cents on that basis, according to First Call. For 2005, the company now expects to earn between $1.04 and $1.06 a share. Wall Street had expected a profit of $1.17, according to First Call. In addition, Krispy Kreme said it will dispose of its Montana Mills bread unit, close six factory stores and shut three underperforming coffee-and-doughnut shops. The company said it will take charges of up to $48 million in the first quarter and restate prior and past financial results to reflect Montana Mills as a discontinued operation. Shares of Krispy Kreme (KKD: Research, Estimates) closed at $31.80 Thursday. ****************************************** I never knew there was a "long-standing" relationship between donuts and diets!!! Either way, this might be a headline worthy of the Jay Leno show...

What does SI called it? This week's sign that that Apocalypse is upon us? -
Tony Parker was on fire early on in the game! It seemed to play out like a carbon copy of Game 1 - Spurs dominate the first half, the Lakers put together a great 3rd Quarter, and then the Spurs regain control in the 4th. It will be interesting to see how both teams play with the series shifting to LA's turf...

I've got a long way to go. I've been to: Camden Yards Busch Stadium Riverfront Stadium in Cincy (is that Cinergy now?) The Astrodome (I still need to see the Astros in "Minute Maid Park" which looks really impressive, but is that a wussy name or what??) Dodger Stadium (whatever that's called today also) I also saw the Astros play an exhibition game against Texas A&M at Olsen Field when I was in school, in the mid 80's. That was really cool - even got out on the field after the game and shook Nolan Ryan's hand and got his autograph! -Erik

I just read about this on the CNN website as well... "...Other recipients include jazz saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, who is owed $78,000 and the Fontane Sisters, who are owed nearly $107,000. Morning TV show host Regis Philbin, who recorded an album in 1968, is owed $7,255."""

After listening to the Yellow Submarine Songtrack today, I have a new contender for worst Beatles Song: All Together Now I think I dislike this one more than Maxwell's Silver Hammer. At least that one had something going on musically, sorta. In a When I'm 64 kind of way. -Erik

Just keeping working up the sequence until they start paying YOU for the titles you want. Actually, I think that code is the BMG equivalent of "alt+F4".

En Route is due out next Tuesday, finally... I"m really looking forward to this live trio date, as it's been a long time since Sco's released a live album! It got 4 stars from All Music, and a pretty good write-up: AMG REVIEW: Following a series of coruscating servings of progressive uber funk for Verve, Scofield stripped down to a trio for this live session at New York's Blue Note club in December 2003. He hooked up with a pair of old friends, the terrific loose-limbed drummer Bill Stewart, and the tense, nimble bassist Steve Swallow, and the three go after each other in some often-furiously busy, driving, tangled interplay, defying the frigid New York weather of that period. Denzil Best's "Wee" gets a scorching, asymmetrical workout to start, and Swallow's "Name That Tune" promptly goes into super overdrive, with Scofield darting all over the place in his idiosyncratic way. "Hammock Soliloquy" varies between another of Scofield's irresistible, laid-back, country tunes and more combustible high-speed interplay, while "Bag" ain't nothin' but the blues with a volatile groove. A highly-convoluted trip through "It Is Written" precedes — and partially pre-echoes — a quiet ballad-tempo rendition of the Bacharach/David tune "Alfie." The closest thing to the jazz/funk jams of Scofield's recent past is an 11-minute closing workout called "Over Big Top" — a paraphrase of "Bigtop" from his Groove Elation album — churning and driving relentlessly. Leaning more toward Scofield's jazz side per se, this high-energy outing should pass the time quite agreeably until he unleashes another of his jazz/funk groove-a-thons. — Richard S. Ginell

Up - Love to hear any reviews of this show. Couldn't get up to Austin with my kids this weekend after all, so I missed this and the Reptet show, unfortunately. Would have been a fun weekend of music!!
-
Well, how was the show, Johnny? Anyone on the board able to go to see Reptet? And how'd you like Austin? Probably the least "Texan" place in Texas!
-
Sorry to hear of your loss, Randy. Lean on your friends and family - they can be a great source of comfort. -Erik
