I woke up to a huge thunderstorm and 10" inches of rain on Sunday morning. The street had about 2' of standing water in it until about 2:00 pm, so I couldn't even leave to go get the newspaper! There were alot of folks who thought they could get through the waters, only to stall their cars, and have to leave them until later in the day. Bet they won't try that again!

I can see it now, smack dab in the heart of KC: "Rooster Ties Fabulous Used Vinyl and CD Emporium" Note - pretend this isn't a picture of couw in his listening room with his puny television set, but some of the inventory in Rooster's store

I don't agree with the sentiments that either of you seem to be stating in your posts. If all of the draftees starting having Manning's attitude, then I think it would spell doom for the NFL, which in my opinion is the best professional sports league in the U.S. Way too many athletes in the NFL (and other sports as well) think they're better than the team. It's all about me, me, me. I've got way more respect for the guys with the blue-collar attitudes, even when they're collecting million dollar paychecks. The guys who take less money to stay with a team they've played for, the guys who accept where they've been drafted and play as best they can. The guys that go to Cincinnati or apparently San Diego nowadays, or Jacksonville.

I agree that the Giants gave up too much for Manning, who is going to have a hard time living up to expectations, I think. Plus Manning's attitude about the Chargers will hurt him, at least for a while, in the eyes of many fans. Looks like a selfish, spoiled brat who thinks he's above the rules to me. Rivers and Big Ben should be more effective than Manning, with less pressure on them to be superstars right from the start. I can't figure out the Cowboys' draft. To have their choice of the two best running backs available - Jackson or Kevin Jones - and trade away the pick for some lower round picks, plus a #1 next year makes no sense to me. In effect they just postponed their #1 pick this year until next, and gained a couple of lower round picks. I think it was a mistake. Gotta hope that Julius Jones turns out to be a great running back, and that they have a great first round next year, with two picks. Buffalo has a tough schedule this year, so their first rounder should be a top 10 pick at least.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I've always seen my life as divided into two parts - before kids and after. And I wouldn't ever wish to go back to the pre-kid era. I never knew my heart could feel so much love for someone else! Welcome to the world, Zora!! I think she'd be a great honorary mascot for this bulletin board!

Claude - Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I missed your comments in that thread somehow. If this edition doesn't have the mechanical whirling noise that Golden Arm mentioned, then I'm going to probably pick it up. Need the extra 16 tracks! -Erik

a little Freudian slip of the keys, I assume?

JGThomas - Thanks for responding. Hope I can make it up to Austin and meet you at the show. I'll let you know if my plans work out. It would be great to see Johnny E's show on Friday night as well - wonder if I could drag my 6 year old out with me to see Reptet

I noticed the '04 remaster of "ASCENSEUR POUR L'ECHAFAUD" on that list. Anyone know if this is the long version or the short version of this material? I'm trying to decide whether to replace my recent Jazz in Paris version, which is the short one. And I'm curious about the echo/no echo thing as well, and whether this is the same (bad?) mastering as the recent Japanese issue, as mentioned by the Man with the Golden Gun on this thread. Thanks, Erik

According to AMG, the soundtrack to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is similar to Black Oak Arkansas' High on the Hog... Any other strange connections you've noticed on AMG??

I may have to take a trip up to Austin that weekend. Any other Organissimo's thinking about attending?

Maxwell's Silver Hammer anyone? I have days where it's ok, but other times where it drives me crazy. And everytime I hear it I see Steve Martin from that campy Sgt. Pepper movie that had the Bee Gees & Frampton in it...

I am expecting your divided thumb to resemble this: edit - you got my first response before I deleted it

Ok, ok, since the forthcoming answer has piqued my curiosity sufficiently: How exactly does couw divide his thumb for his other, lesser recommendations?

Against my own advice, I'll provide a stupid answer Morton was called Jelly Roll because of his ability to make the piano keys "roll" like Jelly. That was the deal. He played so fast, it made the keys roll like jelly because it... I don't know, it just couldn't take the speed of his fingers. Art Tatum used to do it without the jelly-rolling thing, and played beautiful. But I don't think he ever got the accolades that Morton did, mainly because Jelly Roll Morton was the first one. Anyway, I know alot about that kind of music, and I admire those players.

I agree with you, Jim. Since it's from Blender, I'm sure it was compiled by and FOR teens & 20-somethins, their target audience. I mean, if it ain't got "In the Year 2525" on it, how can it be complete? Though I have to give them props for including "Shiny Happy People" - what an awful tune!(and I generally like older r.e.m.)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Starship may have built this city on rock and roll, but Blender magazine is tearing it down, naming the band's "We Built This City" as the worst song ever. Some tunes on the "50 Worst Songs Ever!" list were selected for their melodies, others "are wretchedly performed" and "quite a few don't make sense whatsoever," the magazine said. The list, which appears in the May issue, includes songs by New Kids on the Block, Meat Loaf, The Doors, Lionel Richie, Hammer and The Beach Boys, among others. Blender describes 1985's "We Built This City" as "the truly horrible sound of a band taking the corporate dollar while sneering at those who take the corporate dollar." Starship lead singer Grace Slick says, "This is not me," when the magazine reminds her of the tune. "Now you're an actor. It's the same as Meryl Streep playing Joan of Arc." Rounding out the top 10: "Achy Breaky Heart," Billy Ray Cyrus; "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" Wang Chung; "Rollin'," Limp Bizkit; "Ice Ice Baby," Vanilla Ice; "The Heart of Rock & Roll," Huey Lewis and the News; "Don't Worry Be Happy," Bobby McFerrin; "Party All the Time," Eddie Murphy; "American Life," Madonna; and "Ebony and Ivory," Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Other songs on the list: Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" (No. 22); Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" (No. 30); Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" (No. 39); Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" (No. 41); Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence" (No. 42); The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (No. 48); and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" (No. 50). Blender and VH1's TV special "50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs ... Ever" airs May 12.

The strangest thing happened to me today......

I'm glad to hear you're ok too Brandon. I'm not sure I'd want to ride in downtown traffic in Austin, or any larger city for that matter. Too many bad drivers too worry about, not to mention buses with lots of blind spots. I've got an old Trek 1400 (circa 1991) that I plan to fix up a little bit and resume riding regularly. Used to ride with a group of people down here in Corpus Christi regularly on Saturday mornings, and occasionally weekdays as well. You wouldn't believe the types of things that happen. We've had beer cans thrown at us from trucks driving by, and drivers deliberately trying to sideswipe us. There was a female that used to ride with us, and at least twice she had people in cars/trucks reach out and try to grab/touch her as she was riding! -
Noticed this one in my local Best Buy this past weekend. Anyone have this? I've never seen the film, but remember some mixed reviews back when it came out...

Doh!!!!! Where can I send you the obligatory case of Money Jungle cds, as penance for my crime?

Sorry catesta, but being in south Texas, I'm rooting for the "sorry" Spurs, THE defending champions. Ginobili outta win the 6th Man award, or whatever it's called. And Duncan is equally deserving of MVP, whether he or Garnett win it. Spurs aren't flashy like the Lakers, but they have been consistently solid, and play team ball. Lakers need to pick up their game alot, if they want to advance past the 1st round. I'm sure the Zen-Master will light a fire under them somehow.
