  1. Did he bitch-slap Hitler in his imagination?
  2. That's it! I'm just going to buy the effin movie. Seriously, though, The Criterion DVD apparently has a documentary about the making of the soundtrack as an extra. Anyone seen it?
  3. Geez, just when I had Auschwitz all tidied-up in my mind, this kinda news has to break. Seriously, what about Auschwitz then and now isn't shocking and unsettling? It wasn't Hogan's Heroes, that's for sure.
  4. I always figured that the maid, Alice, set a bad example for them. Seriously, as a horny adolescent, I could never decide between Marcia and Jan. I guess I leaned towards whichever one was less whiny during any given episode. Then there was Mom and Cindy... but let's not go there.
  5. Well, I blame that on my girlfriend at the time. In retrospect, I'd say that she exuded some sort of force-field that could ruin any movie.
  6. Eeeee-oooow!!!! Exactly!
  7. I checked out some of these at a retail establishment and they even smell all Keepnewsy! (Don't ask me how I know; I just do.)
  8. I dig this one too! It was the 2nd Brubeck disk that I pruchased right after Time Out. I'll have to give it renewed attention if such astute listeners rank it so highly. Found it underwhelming on first encounter, myself (he admits, sheepishly).
  9. As a fan of the "5" Royales, I've got to hear that Shirley Scott cover. As for Powell's nickname: he wore glasses, no? (Forgive my ignorance, but I never saw the man in a photo or on television.)

    Frank Rosolino

As a trombone aficionado and a Rosolino fan, all I can say is grab any recordings you can. An amazing musician who came to a sad end.
  11. Stumbled across a a CD on my "very wanted" list at a used place in Boston today (on my way to the 30th Annual John Coltrane memorial Concert, a great Boston-area institution). So today I bought The Ted Brown Sextet's Free Wheeling, featuring Warne Marsh and Art Pepper. Listening right now, and as a Tristano aficionado from way back (1978/9 or so), all I can say is that this record is a little piece of heaven...
  12. In the early 80s, I had all of the Mothers' Verve LPs in dead mint original pressings, which it had taken me several years of searching to collect. My copy of We're Only In It For The Money even had the original inserts, in mint condition like the LP and jacket. I was an impoverished undergraduate, and eventually hit a patch where I needed money badly enough to convince me to sell all of them. In retrospect, I should've just sucked it up and stocked up on ramen noodles; I wound up not getting as much money for them as I'd expected to, and although I eventually replaced most of them, the replacements weren't as nice as the ones I'd let go. Yeah, mine was in excellent condition, with the inserts as well. I did OK on the trade, but still.
  13. Good one! The cover was a cross-promotion for some new shade of lipstick as I recall.
  14. Let us know what happens!
  15. Another vote for Time Further Out. Way back in highschool, I remember playing this one even more than Time Out.
  16. I'd jump at the chance to see any one of these guys. But all three together? I would not miss it.
  17. My package came today! I'm very happy with Jazzloft's service, I must say.
  18. Yeah! Of course, I'm always short on money...
  19. Bad vibes?
  20. Seemed obvious to me that if you made your content (immediate opinion) scarce, the value of said content would plummet rather than soar. It's not like this is fine wine, folks. Rejoin the dialogue, NYT.
  21. I'm remaining calm. I'm just not listening to whatsername...
  22. It's definitely a part of history now. And I'm still tempted to vote for Miles. What about that "Bionic" Osby?
  23. Finally got an e-mail receipt today, along with notice that my stuff will be shipped. I'm afraid I'll be ordering from these guys again soon, especially since they seem to stock most of the New Dutch Swing titles I've been coveting for ages, among other labels/titles.
  24. Probably the number one most regretted sale of all time on my part is an original vinyl LP of Frank Zappa's We're Only in it for the Money, that I got for a buck at a yard sale in the late 1970s. On the other hand, I traded it for a bunch of Sonny Rollins records that were out of print in the U.S. as of the early 1980s, when I made the fated trade.
  25. S'funny that pirates are so popular nowadays. Makes me wonder if, a couple hundred years into the future, Disney will be making films about those colorful "terrorists,"
