  1. I always enjoy putting on women's clothing for a little competitive sprint.
  2. I saw it yesterday for the first time. My initial reaction: nice!
  3. Kind of Blue, of course, back in the good old days of vinyl. Circa 1977/78. It was quite the rage among my circle of friends (theater-artsies, dancers, band geeks, freaks....) back in those highschool days. My parents had Sketches of Spain, which was often played early in the evening when they held parties, so I kind of grew up with Miles. My dad also had ESP, but I don't recall it ever being played.
  4. Great, great music. Some of the best Hawk ever. And the Young sides are no slouch either.
  5. Fred Hersch plays Joni Mitchell. (I heard him play her "My Old Man" and it was the highlight of the set. He acknowledges her as a gateway to becoming a jazz player.)
  6. Steven Bernstein and Sex Mob - Nuggets
  7. Dave Douglas plays the Elvis Costello Songbook.
  8. Wayne Shorter playing Outkast's "Ms. Jackson."
  9. I'd like to hear it. Take time to read the title of the thread. Man's a FUNKATEER! Dig what he say. I'd love to hear Bud Shank's version of Fountains of Wayne's "It Must Be Summer." How about Outkast's "Bombs over Baghdad" as interpreted by Sonny Rollins?
  10. Maybe he likes jail?
  11. Great idea for a show. I look forward to listening. Are you ever going to air in Boston?

    CD Shelf Dealers

The title of this thread makes me wonder; is there really such a problem with unscrupulous CD shelf dealers? Personally, I use slightly altered wooden wine crates as shelves for my CDs. But then, I work at a wine store...
  13. How about the ubiquitous Peruvian pan flute bands that play in shopping streets restricted to a two tune repertoire of James Taylor's "Everyday" and Gary Puckett's "Lady Willpower"? Or how about they play Puckett's pedophiliac "Young Girl" over and over... (Can you tell I hate Gary Puckett?)
  14. You've got something there, my friend. Perhaps the nerdiest thing about him is the incessant fixation on the busty blonde cheerleader type. After 50 years you'd figure he might have broadened his taste a bit. Maybe that's why he needs Viagra.
  15. An endless loop of Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's truly infernal "Lady Willpower," perhaps the most odious hit song of all time.
  16. Those who can, do. Those who can't, doodle.
  17. That fucking annoying top 40 tune I keep hearing everywhere with the chorus "You had a bad day..." Hearing that tune damnfuckingwellguaranTEES that I had a bad day. Ouch.
  18. The Calculus Affair is definitely a peak. I agree with brownie: these are highly addictive. Gotta love that "clear line." Time for another hit...
  19. The altered changes on the bridge are truly egregious and never fail to get my goat.
  20. Now that's truly horrifying. Not just the unicorns, mind you, but the reflection of the "inner child" to top it off. Bet he scored some pussy at the ashram.
  21. I dig the Organissimo cover myself. Though I might have given the napkin a slightly jauntier jog rightwards.
  22. And I thought I hated jazz flute BEFORE I saw that Herbie Mann cover. Anyone else think that the guy on the far right of the Country Church cover looks like Lester Bangs? Wouldn't it make more sense for Pooh Man to be called "Poon Man" given his album's cover art? On the other hand, I think the Redd Foxx cover is perfectly appropriate. And I mean that in a good way.
  23. Great Question. I'm sure there'll be at least a few folks on the board with opinions about this. When I was a kid, my favorite was King Ottokar's Sceptre. Herge's own favorite and most personal work was Tintin in Tibet. The Castafiore Emerald is certainly the funniest, as well as the closest that comics have come to P.G. Wodehouse. There were several two-album adventures. My favorite is Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon. The Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun are an excellent duo as well, cited by some as a possible inspiration for the Indiana Jones flicks. Honestly, start anywhere. If you dig comics you'll eventually acquire them all.

If there was a "next" Bird, wouldn't he or she sound TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Bird? Think about it...
