  1. Chapelle Show -- season 1 Fawlty Towers Box The Larry Sanders Show -- Season 1 Freaks and Geeks Box Monty Python complete Box The Office -- Seasons 1 and 2, Special Rocky and Bullwinkle -- Seasons 1, 2 SCTV Boxes -- Vols. 1, 2, 3 The Singing Detective South Park Seasons 1, 4 I think that's it. Next on the list to get would be Bob Newhart and more South Park. I have very fond memories of that one. Fred Willard is SOME kind of genius.
  2. I've been buying Mosaics since the very beginning, but have been very selective, pretty much only buying things I was sure I would like. That being said, the one that most disappointed me was The Complete Pacific Jazz Small Group Recordings of Art Pepper (for Mosiac geeks, my set is number 2523). Lots of Chet Baker on this as well, but in my opinion, both men have played better elsewhere. Still, I plan on keeping it, after having held onto it for all these years. The last Mosaic I bought was the Weston select. No disappointment there.
  3. Too late to do anything about it in my case: the damage has already been done. That style of singing, lost in a miasma of melisma, is indeed depressing.
  4. Of course, this has been going on for years. Blame the bean counters. Back in the late 1980s I remember visiting a store in Brookline, Massachussetts and buying a stack of 8 or so LPs. While ringing me out, the guy at the counter said, "This'll keep vinyl alive in our store for at least another month or so." I also remember, around the same time, visiting the Boston Tower Records, not having been there for some months, and being rather startled that ALL OF THE VINYL HAD DISAPPEARED. Remember when they took that poll and we all agreed that vinyl had to go? I thought not. So now it's happening to an entire genre, regardless of format. Despite the fact that the jazz buyer probably buys three or more discs a visit (not to mention visits the store two or three times a month), while the Norah Jones or other pop music buyer averages one disc and one visit per month, if that. All that being said, the Borders in Newton, MA, where I grew up just outside of Boston, has a pretty good jazz section, at least the last time I was there a month or so ago.
  5. Of course it's widely known that paella is the cowbell of cuisine.
  6. Why doesn't Mosaic release single discs? (Or was that another thread?)
  7. Why doesn't Concord (or Mosaic) Name Three People? Or are either or both against addictive games?
  8. Even better idea: now that Concord has cleared so much warehouse space by deleting unneccesary OJCs, why don't they re-release OOP Mosaics?
  9. How come Mosaic hasn't released any boxed sets of Concord artists?
  10. Macintosh, for the man who refuses to read the manual. (like manuals come with these things anymore...)
  11. I'm far from computer savvy, as you might have guessed. When I downloaded Mozilla, my computer said that I did not have the proper program to expand what I had just downloaded and prompted me to select another program. I selected the version of Stuffit that I already had and, lo and behold, it worked. So here I am, having somehow blundered my way onward, as usual.
  12. With a name like "Peter Johnson" how could you not...
  13. I wish I could help, Dave 9199. At first I thought that I needed to download a new version of Stuffit, but it turned out that the one I already had worked fine. Maybe just try again?
  14. So for Murray it would be only one? Husky but rhythmically clunky, then abruptly high and squeaky? Actually, I like him, especially on bass clarinet. And I think The Hill deserves its reputation as one of the best jazz records of the '80s. He's far from my favorite, though. I think that Giddins may have done him a disservice with his relentless hype. I think Murray's had an honorable career, however, and employed many fine musicians. But I can't remember the last time I bought a record of his.
  15. Wow! This thread is what the Organissimo Forums are all about. Lots of provocation for thought -- and for action. Sangrey, as usual, leading the charge. Now, THAT'S what I call a post. As for me, with my limited skills, I'd best approach GS, if ever, at a Morton Feldman pace, let alone as a ballad. (Call me "SLOWnimsky.")* My favorite non-'trane version would have to be Dave Burrell's stride rendition on his The Jelly Roll Joys(Gazell). The rest of the disc is excellent, too. *Extra obscure bonus joke.
  16. You beat me to it, Jim. When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought: genitalia/cold water joke. I guess that organissominds, great or small, think alike.
  17. With leftovers like that you could make... ...more paella.
  18. I have Spring of Two Blue J's vinyl (Unit Core 30551) with a blank generic cover. A prized (and oft listened to) possession. What did the original cover look like? (Was there one?) Are the Unit Core recordings (all two of 'em) available elsewhere as legitimate releases? I'd love to see that Unit Core flyer, clifford_thornton. My copy of Blue J's, and I assume all, has a 1973 copyright. You bought 300 of them? How long did they take to sell? How big was the chain you worked for? I agree that it would have been nice to have a Nessa Cecil Taylor, but why the hell didn't the Smithsonian issue a record by this major American artist?
  19. Finally got around to downloading Mozilla 1.0.2. It was a snap, and now I can access Organissimo forums again from my iMac at home (running system 9.0). Now I can waste even more time!
  20. Listening to it now. I never knew that Hank Jones accompanied Marilyn Monroe during her "Happy Birthday" serenade to JFK!
  21. The Benny Carter 4 Montreux '77 (OJC) features some of my favorite playing by him on record. Ray Bryant and NHOP don't hurt, either.
  22. Honestly, I'm often relieved when a set goes OOP. Frees up some mental real estate (not to mention potential $$) for other things. Just a thought.
  23. Maybe next you can teach her to dial a phone. Cute story.
  24. Charles Ives.
