  1. Guitar players...
  2. Scott, I know what you're saying. Still, a $500 guitar should be plenty for the average player. The guitar player I worked with who just got the Bob Dylan gig had two guitars to his name... one was a korean hollowbody fake jazz guitar he got for a couple hundred bucks and the other was a fender reissue strat someone gave him worth probably 500 bucks. I know it's fun buying, but there's a lot of joy in playing too. It's easy to forget that sometimes. Don't underestimate your sense of self discovery.
  3. Dude, I never realized an tube wulitzer piano could look so dorky. I guess I've only seen Ray Charles play one before....
  4. A Blue Note contract? B-)
  5. Not to be a drag. But I used to work in a pawn shop/music store. I found the more dissatisfied someone was with their guitar playing, the more guitars they bought. I've seen the best guitar players pick up the worst guitars and make them sound great...and vice versa. It's not so much in the instrument, as it's in your hands and head. Not to single you out Scottb, I think all musicians do this. I would suggest spending more time playing and less time buying. I think you'll be happier with the results.
  6. I've had the old CD issue a long time, and never really dug it all THAT much. However, got the new RVG and am freakin' blown away. Don't know what happened...must have grown into this album.
  7. Seems to me, a guitar can almost always be repaired to good playing satisfaction by a good luthier.
  8. Had posted this in the Love Day thread, but thought it might get seen more on it's own thread. I'm not usually drawn into stories on T.V news shows, but saw this on Nightline last night and it really hit hard. Here' the Nightline story... Nightline Story It's a heartwreching story about a truely unique and special 11 year old Afghan girl who sings and goes to "circus" school of all things. However due to a heart condition that is growing worse, is headed for a gloomy end if something is not done to help her. Otherwise here's the story Vasila's Story
  9. I'm not one to be moved necessarily by T.V. shows. However, on Nightline tonight I saw a very heartwrenching story about a young 11 year-old-girl from a very poverty-stricken family in Afghanistan. She is a singer who goes to a performing circus school that entertains other schoolchildren. However, she has a heart condition that is fatal unless a relatively simple proceedure is done. She lives a healthy life if she gets the minor surgery, otherwise she will die within 6 months. She would have to be flown to India and the cost is $10,000. In the spirit of my daughter's Love Day, I'd like to provide a link to her story. A girl named Vasilla
  10. Yes, you're welcome. I'm glad I posted it and am surprised at the reception it's gotten! It's a great feeling to pass on some positive energy, vibes...or well...love (call it what it is!). I wonder how many have brought up Love Day with others outside of the board? Say a spouse or friend or relative. Just put my daughter to bed, another Love Day gone by.
  11. No, but it's sad to see Love Day already commercialized.
  12. Thanks Tonym, I trying...but she's doing a pretty good job herself.
  13. Glad to see my little one's love has really taken flight. Here's her Love Day drawing that started it all.
  14. Is there a spot that shows a running total somewhere on the board?
  15. Big Al, to celbrate, go out and but yourself some CDs.
  16. YES! Love Day is pure of spirit.
  17. This is just like how "Talk Like a Pirate Day" got started... Hmmm. I wonder if I can convince my wife that today is Love Day? Does a "Love Night" count? Love Day isn't about when the sun's out in the sky. It's about when the sun's out in your heart...or your pants.
  18. I love the thought about not practicing. It really fits into my philosophy.
  19. This is just like how "Talk Like a Pirate Day" got started... Hmmm. I wonder if I can convince my wife that today is Love Day? How can you not make love on Love Day?!
  20. Is Jimmy kicking bass on this one, though? I thought there was a bass player, at least on this track. Yes, there's a standup bass on this one. But, it doesn't diminish the sheer awe of what Jimmy's up to here. Matter of fact, I think it's actually harder to swing like this and be this "in the pocket" when you aren't playing organ bass at the same time. Playing bass yourself really locks you in rhythmically.
  21. I see Love Day has gone international with our friends in the U.K. joining us in this new celebration.... B-)
  22. The Love Day creator is fast asleep. Never knowing that what she came up with is already sweeping the nation.... ...keep passin' on the love...because Love Day is Everyday!
  23. How much of the set is available on CD now? I have the nice 2 CD set of Wynton Kelly! on Veejay that's wonderful. Just ordered Kelly At Midnight and Go!...what else was there?
  24. Yeah, just read the thread. That really sucks.
  25. That's alright Dan. On Love Day you are loved whether you want it or not!
