  1. exactly my choices as well!
  2. haha! i've been wanting to post that! very common spelling error that drives me nuts. that and sarah vaughn instead of vaughan, to cite another common one. trivial but important to some of us.
  3. boy, am i jealous!! the choices aren't nearly as good from march 10-16 when i'll be there!!
  4. what a great article. thanks so much. do you perhaps know the date of the article?
  5. i am so glad to hear that he is playing. i haven't heard him in eons. the last time i saw him was last year at herman riley's funeral. hope i get the opportunity to hear him around l.a. in the near future.
  6. i was deeply in love until i read the third from the last paragraph!!! seriously, welcome back. your taste is impeccable in music so i'm sure your wife is probably fabulous too!!! best to you, valerie
  7. very interesting website but i was having problems with some of the categories. it most definitely looks interesting though. Thanks Valerie! In wich sense did you have problems? Any help for improving the website will be welcome. one example of the problems i encountered was when i click on one of the headings (like "Special Offers"), nothing changes. it stays at the same page.

  9. Uh, you don't commit suicide because you're in good mental health... this was not a suicide according to all reports.
  10. sushi with uni and ankimo included, caviar, and plenty of lobster with drawn garlic butter!!! i'll be ready after that!
  11. jazz, anyone?!?
  12. i would venture a guess that quite a large percentage of the posts from guys have nothing or little to do with jazz, per se. see above for examples!! marla has more knowledge about jazz than any non-jazz musician i know!! and a fierce passion as well. you're lucky to have her here.
  13. she was lovely and i enjoyed her in everything she was in (that i saw, obviously).
  14. horrible news about a young talented man with a young child. just heard fairly recently that he and his wife/partner had split. it had been such a romantic story with their meeting on the set of "brokeback mountain" and having the child not long after. very sad indeed.
  15. i think, very sadly, that "smoky" voice may have contributed to her demise from lung cancer. i seem to remember her being a heavy smoker for years. she was one-of-a-kind. gorgeous, sexy, down-to-earth, very bright, funny, outspoken, etc. she will be missed.
  16. i think he is still with us.
  17. i'm definitely a fan of this band, especially from the early '70s. in fact, i missed a performance the other night at a local L.A. club where the latest incarnation of this group played. Who's in the latest incarnation of the group? Lanny Morgan still there? can't tell you all the names but i do know that Lanny Morgan is still there!

  19. i've read it but don't remember that. in fact, i'm in the book (at least a paragraph or two, i think)!
  20. victims?!? who else besides Tina?
  21. just heard via CNN that the toxology reports said that Ike died of a cocaine overdose and other mitigating circumstances. i had believed that he had been "clean" for a very long time. my guess is that he knew he was on his way out so felt, "what the f__k"!!
  22. i must admit that most of my very sweet memories of her were when she was wearing very attractive blonde wigs!! she was really hot in the '60s and quite wonderful.
  23. so grateful that i got to hear all of these wonderful musicians on many occasions in my ny days. can't believe they're all on the other side, as it were.
  24. has everyone here read his book on George Wein? excellent piece of work! happy, healthy and many more productive years to come!
  25. this is extremely sad news. i have enjoyed Earl's playing for many, many decades. heard him a year ago at Walter Booker's memorial. a big loss, to be sure. my sincere condolences to his family and friends. valerie bishop
