HELP - What would be the cheapest way for me to order this?
  5. No, that cymbal is made by a company named "Istanbul". What I'm looking for is an older Zildjian K made in Istanbul. It's kind of complicated, but to make a long story short... Zildjian got split into two different companies back in the early 20th century. When Avedis Zildjian started making zildjian cymbals in the USA back in the 30's, there was still a Zildjian making cymbals in Turkey. The Turkish company had a contract with Gretsch (so gretsch kits came with Zildjian made in Turkey or 'Zildjian K Istanbul'), but all others came with Zildjian USA or 'Zildjian Avedis'. Avedis didn't like someone else having use of the Zildjian name so through the courts he eventually won back exclusive rights to the name and shut down the Turkish plant. That was in the late 60's. In the opinion of a lot of jazz players, the Zildjian K Istanbul’s have the perfect sound for jazz. You can crash them and ride them at the same time (which as you know is essential for jazz drumming). And now that I have a few extra bucks....I WANT ONE! Anyway, you can identify your cymbals by looking at the etched "stamp" on your cymbals. If it says 'Avedis', then it was made in the US. If it says 'K Istanbul'...well you get the picture.
  6. Hell, even an 18" will do. Do you know a jazz drummer who's selling their stuff? Maybe you are that jazz drummer. Maybe you know a friend? Let me know. I got some extra cash and I'm dyin' for one of these puppies.
  7. I love Sheila Jordan on Roswell Rudd's 'Flexible Flyer'. Go out and het it today! You can get it on CD from Dusty Groove for $5.99 here What a fantastic recording.
  8. Charlie Parker, Scott LaFaro, & Tony Williams - had they lived, circa 1968.
  9. Damn it! Out of curiosity, how much did you sell it for?
  10. I hope Jeter and A-rod collide going for a texas leaguer on opening day wiping out both their seasons, Valasquez & Mussina blow out their arms and Sheffield, Giambi, and Posada get caught in a gay love triangle. Fuck the Yankees! The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. I almost kicked my TV when I heard they might sign Maddox too! Glad to see him on the Cubbies.
  11. Anybody know where I can pick up a Zildjian Istanbul K 20" crash/ride (other than outrageously overprices ebay)?
  12. Hey Shawn, welcome (back?) to Seattle. I'd be glad to meet up with you sometime. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see Pauline Oliveros this Thursday. I don't know what type of jazz you dig, but in case you don't know, Pauline is incredible. She's here as part of the Improvised Music Festival. Here's a link: http://www.seattleimprovisedmusic.com/ Some great stuff coming up - Ivar Grydeland & Ingar Zach on the 14th, Paul Hession, Wally Shoup & Michael Bisio on the 19th, and Les Poules on the 21st...it's gonna be good!

    Malachi Favors

I was at that show as well. Wonderful, just wonderful. Malachi had a playful spirit in his peformances - I imaged that's how he was off stage as well. I loved that sound tube he would pick up every once in a while and start spinning it over his head, and his megaphone. And there was a soulful quality to his bass tone that really comforted me. Does anyone (chuck?) know how he died? He looked good in the fall when I saw him. Also, Lazaro you should play the song "Way Way Way Down Yonder" from the album 'Sightsong' that he did with Muhal Richard Abrams. That track is one of my all-time favorite bass solos. Sad. I hope he had a painless and peaceful passing.
  16. Clifford (Cliff) Burton on bass?
  17. Clifford Hayes on violin!
  18. So Reptet gots a gig at the Elephant Room on April 30th, just in case any of my Austin based friends are interested. Thanks to ya'll for hipping me to the club. -John
  19. One can only hope.
  20. Ibanez had three solid seasons in KC (especially his last two). Let's look at the numbers. In his three seasons in Kansas City from 2001-2003 he hit, .280, .294, and .294 respectively, and he connected for 247 RBI and 55 HR in the same period. Not Superstar numbers but pretty respectible. And these three years were the first time in his career that he got to play full-time, not just as a back-up. And he has torn it up at Safeco Field (not yet open when he played in Seattle). He has five home runs and 15 RBI there in just 45 at-bats over the past two years. Left handed linedrive hitters tend to do well at the Safe since the gap are huge. Plus he's coming home to where his family lives. I predict he will have a fine season.
  21. Far before my time. But from what I've heard from my mother he was not only a true original and funny as hell, but the pioneer of what has become an American Institution – iconic late night talk show hosts. Although watching Jay Leno, I'm not sure that's a good thing, he really sucks. RIP Jack.
  22. Now that Kaz is gone, the M's are gonna swoop up Pudge leaving Detriot high and dry. With the additions of Pudge, Guardado, Aurilia, and Ibanez it should make for a very interesting season for the Mariners. GO M's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
