  1. Two sound cards, huh? One card's more than enough - at least on my machine with my sound card. I believe the inputs depend on what sound card one uses. Some will have the "Stereo Mix" input, some won't. Others will have a Digital CD input for example. Goldwave is a neat program and I use it for that kind of stuff.
  2. Bingo. That's what that fucked up Scientology bullcrap is all about.

  4. Iomega external DVD-R/CD-R burner? Why not three internal LiteOn DVD-R writers instead of one external Iomega?
  5. I've got two machines with XP and one 2000 Server in my home LAN running since 2002 - maybe two or three crashes, no viruses/worms. You know, it's possible to work with these machines without problems. Glad you're happy with your Mac, I'm happy that I can get my work done on my cheap and ugly i386s.
  6. Hard disk fragmentation comes to mind (among other bad things): http://www.webappeal.com/directory/Tutorials/hdfrag.html O.K., I've no idea what's actually wrong with your system but it sounds like a backup of your data + disk format + reinstallation of your OS is in order. Depends on the amount/size of files. If your data is < 5-7GB and you have no real use for an extra drive in the future I'd not buy one but burn CD-Rs/DVD-Rs instead. Regarding data backup in general: is data stored on the same partition as the OS? If this is the case, next time you install your OS, subdivide the HD in at least two partitions (primary partition for the OS/~10GB - depending on # of applications and their size and an extended partition that will contain logical drives for your data). Always keep OS and data separated. Makes re-installations, data backup and life in general much easier.
  7. Blaster32? If that's the case shutdown -a (start/run) will stop the shutdown and you have time to get rid of this worm... assuming you're using Windows XP (SP1/2?). But catesta talks about shut-offs so... Any applications on this computer that use the CPU to its full capacity (an mp3 encoder for example)? You could try to encode large wav files and see if this affects the computer's shutting off (watch the performance tab in the task manager and make sure the CPU is busy). If you can affect the computer shutting down that way the problem is probably due to CPU overheat. Take a look at your BIOS settings - what's the max CPU temp set to? What CPU do you use (guess it's not being overclocked, is it?)? Good luck!
  8. One of the many possibilities: CPU fan is getting ready to give up.
  9. http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser...=DN/20060070095 Good luck Philips
  10. Looks like a possibility but not a very flexible one. Is it possible to do queries like show all recording sessions where Scott La Faro plays the kazoo? Looks like data entry is very time consuming and who knows if it's worth the effort (i.e. what can you do with the accumulated data). I made an SQL Server database and a quick and dirty Windows GUI for data entry but don't use it because I hate filling out forms . Well, who cares anyway. My point is that if people have to go through the hassle of investing many hours doing data entries, the data should not be bound to a proprietary platform like google base - it should be portable, IMO. Does google base give you the possibility to move your data to another system? http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Query.aspx
  11. As for encoding MP3s, try the open source lame encoder. lame GUI -> http://www.dors.de/razorlame/index.php (simply copy lame.exe to the razor lame folder) lame encoder -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/ You can also use the lame enc in combination with Goldwave.

  13. If I find the time to install Apache and PHP I'll try to come up with a solution. But don't count on me.
  14. I'm a PHP/web novice but it should work somehow like this: 1. Create list with seller items (this goes into your already existing CD-Universe form): <?php echo '<select name="selectSeller" width="50">'; echo '<option value="cdUniverse">CD Universe</option>; echo '<option value="amazon">Amazon</option>; echo '<option value="shopX">The Shop X</option>; echo "</select>; ?> 2. At the top of your PHP script you need to check if a submit button has fired the submit event and if it was a submit button, you need to check if it was the one that takes you to those web shops (since you've got plenty of buttons on your page). Let's assume the name of the button is redirectToStore (<input type="submit" name="redirectToStore" value="Klick!"> <?php //checks if the redirectToStore-button caused the request. if ($_REQUEST['redirectToStore']) { //redirect to website that corresponds with the user's store selection if ($_REQUEST['selectSeller'] == "cdUniverse") { header("Location: http://www.cduniverse.com"); } else if ($_REQUEST['selectSeller'] == "amazon") { header("Location: http://www.cduniverse.com"); } else { header("Location: http://www.shopx.com"); } ?> Important: the "header" command thing only works when this is the very first thing that gets submitted to the browser in the server's response. If you do something like echo "Yuk!"; header("Location: http://www.shopx.com"); it won't work. Your CD-Universe form must refer to the same PHP page this form is in. Guess it's index.php in your case? Example, he php file is index.php, the form should look something like that: <form name="formCdStore" action="index.php" method="POST"> Sorry, this looks like a mess... no indentions and I've not much time right now so there could be mistakes. Good luck. P.S. PHP is case sensitive (which I'm sure you know).

  18. Pseudoscientific bullcrap. No, I'm not going to elaborate.
  19. I like Procession better than all the post-Heavy Weather Jaco albums. Guy I like Procession better than all the post-Night Passage Jaco albums. Next...
  20. Let's hope the .NET bomb won't blow up too soon... If I remember correctly, Hejlsberg left Borland for MS in 1996 -- what was the dot bomb's status at that time? Edit: typo.
  21. Maybe I'm not getting the best sound possible, and maybe I need to do some comparisons with other technologies to know for sure, but with the WMAs sounding just as good as on my high quality CD player I really wonder if it's worth my time ... ? "Worth my time"? Uhm... downloading (the new lame version) + unzip + encoding a sample wav < 3 min Takes almost less time than talking about how it's probably not worth one's time.
