  1. I've been eyeing these as they have gotten some great reviews on places like AAJ. I really enjoy Miller's work with Art Blakey on "Live at Kimballs" and Tony Williams "Tokyo Live" so any props for these two Mulgrew Miller releases around here?
  2. thanks for the tip mjzee, but I think I'll stick with "Living", its just a nice little break from having a collection like most of us of just burning stuff. Is Steve Gadd on that "Magic" album? I guess thats another reason why I picked up "Living Inside Your Love" again, for those Gadd grooves.
  3. I got this today, b/c its an album I always liked on vinyl as a kid. I don't like any other Earl Klugh records, but this one has grit and substance for me on tunes like "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Captain Caribe" and I think "Another Time, Another Place" is a very pretty tune. Any other ppl like this album from the horrible era of Blue Note? would I be into "Earl Klugh" or is this enough?
  4. Michael Brecker is one of my fav. tenor players next to Wayne, I'm shocked b/c I don't think of him as old either. His first record and his performances on Pat Metheny's"80/81" are terrific, especially "Every Day (I Thank You)"
  5. JazzKat, I'm referring to the term used when by the jazz press when cats like Terence, Wynton, Branford, Carl Allen, then later Christian McBride, Hargrove, Nicolas Payton, Josh Redman came onto the scene in the early- mid '80's and 90's. Though early on in their careers they were part of the so called "neobop" movement in which largely the jumping off point for their music was Miles mid 60's quintet, their conceptions have expanded over the years. Wasn't the "young lions" tag used to describe players like Wynton Kelly, PC, and Lee Morgan in the late fifties, early sixties?
  6. hmm, are ya sure you didn't see one of the Sailor Moon parodies that otaku(read hardcore anime freak who is myopic about anything not related to Japan) fanboys/fangirls make?
  7. agreed Jim, if we were to remove the colors and contemporary production this would be like a record at the height of the young lion movement in the 80's.
  8. I totally agree about that Herbie solo, although I must respectfully disagree with you about the album as a whole, that Herbie solo first time I heard it, my face contorted and I was yelling out loud it was so great.
  9. since I am an anime fan: Sailor Moon Season 1, uncut, and Chappelle's show season 2.
  10. I got crunk, I don't drink.................. so just got uh sugared out a little, bought the Miles RAM Legacy edition, Chappelle's show Season 2, got a whole lot of Japanese language aids for my b-day, I'm rearning to speak the ranguage no offense intended by speaking engrish there.
  11. uh, Joe, it'll be getting crazy and I'm gonna knock my friend out in Fight Night Round 2, she'll be out quick. but thats another story
  12. yep, I just turned 24 . and I'm happy, my best friend is coming to visit, so it'll be a nice way to get CRUNK!!! I hope I get the Round About Midnight Legacy Edition as I gave my copy away to a friend
  13. Kari, the gig is on www.dimeadozen.org (formerly easy tree) they do "Butterfly" and Lionel Loueke takes an impressive first solo, followed by Mayer..... Mayer sticks to blues terrain and builds the tension nicely.. a very fun gig to listen to, I burned it to CD a few hours ago. "Hang Up Your Hangups" is a fine encore, not as epic as on "Flood", but hey, it works
  14. listening to a show the HH did June 9th, Garrett is burning on "Frankenstein" now.
  15. I love Bennie's solo on "Speedball" from "Live at the Lighthouse", and also that bass clarinet tune on there.
  16. "Actual Proof" is the second tune off "Thrust", even better is the live version on the import, "Flood".
  17. was Loueke a lead player and Mayer primarily backup ala Wah Wah Watson or Blackbird McKnight? do you remember the setlist? did they do "Actual Proof"?
  18. was Herbie playing his digital versions of the Rhodes and Clavinet? they actually sound pretty good, that virtual instrument stuff he used on the F2F tour. How was Lionel Loueke on guitar? he really impressed me on Blanchard's new record.
  19. aren't there exceptions to the removal of standards in the repertoire, such as some 1969 gigs? I remember seeing something in Losin's discography.
