    LOL!
  4. wow, what a range. The local jazz station needs to get a hold of this, they have sort of boring stuff all the time.
  5. damn, I'm ordering those "Live" albums too very soon
  6. I read the Rosenthal book a few semesters back for pleasure. Yeah, Igot some factual errors too, but I thought the discussion about Lee Morgan and "badness" to be interesting. This would also be a good book for future members of the Harpur Jazz Project (a group on campus that brings jazz concerts and we try to educate people I'm graduating, so its done for me) who think race hasn't hasn't been a factor in jazz.
  7. lol at the cover.. "yeah cat, I'm smooth....... WHAT?? WHAT??"
  8. I think they gave me a used copy of Pat Metheny's "Secret Story Live" DVD, I refinished it, they also gave me $5 store credit

Alon, what "pop" albums of Metheny's do you speak of? For the record the only pop album hes made in years was an album of his tunes with Polish vocalist Anna Maria Jopek.

Pat Metheny smooth? uh, The Way Up!!!!!!!!!!!! hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keiko Matsui, yes she does have songs that are smooth jazz with the hooks and all, but she does a lot of other stuff like worldbeat and technoey type things, and she'll have full blown orchestrations too so shes not entirely smooth.... Yes, I have a few of her albums, and Michael Franks too
  12. The group is Steve Smith and Vital Information which features ex Santana keyboardist Tom Coster on keyboards and they have several things out on Tone Center records. They played my neck of the woods recently but I was unable to go.
  13. wow, sad news, I was listening to "One Flight Up" the other day. Such rich basslines on that album.
  14. yeah Big Al, I thought maybe it was Wayne, and his wife at that time was named Miyako right? I think I can see an Asian face from the profile
  15. is that Lee and Ruth Lion? it looks like Lee's ears to me.
  16. hey Joe, hope everything is alright
  17. a teacher I know always says Jack De-John-ay............................. even in the class I TA'ed. and what about Airbee Ankok
  18. well said, Cali
  19. what about doing a spoof of PMG's "The Way Up" cover, like an arrow pointing down?
  20. I'll sign up as soon as I can. Haha, my friend Isabel would probably like "Smokin Section" she's hip.

    FREDDIE IS 67!

happy B-day Freddie! I saw Carl Allen last night and talked to Carl and Vincent Herring about him. Vincent didn't know what he was up to, and Carl called him but hasn't heard back yet. The gig was great last night too.
  22. I wonder when the new trio release will hit. BTW, the black Ibanez is featured on the We Live Here and Imaginary Day DVD's.
  23. I disagree Mike. His blonde Ibanez prototype sounds more like his Gibson than the black Ibanez he was using for a little while. His blonde prototype is really an almost exact copy of his 175, which was taken to Japan, and copied. As a sidebar I'm watching a DVD I made from a bit torrent of an American Garage show in 1980, it sure is a hoot!
  24. well, Herbie's always kept his ear to the ground in terms of current styles. You gotta respect that at least.
