    Abdul Jalilu Bey

he was related to griot galaxy. Alfred “Slick” Campbell aka Jalil Bey. also aka abdul jalil, aka Imam Abdul Jalil, aka Muhammud Bey Abdul Jalil. usually when some one has that many aka's, they're doing something illegal. https://www.google.com/search?num=20&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=%22jalilu+bey%22+&oq=%22jalilu+bey%22+&gs_l=serp.3...3464.3464.0.3768.1.1.0.0.0.0.108.108.0j1.1.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..0.0.0.0KUEioS7bnw https://www.google.com/search?num=20&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=%22Griot+Galaxy%22+%22jalil%22+&oq=%22Griot+Galaxy%22+%22jalil%22+&gs_l=serp.3...3814.3814.0.4182.1.1.0.0.0.0.111.111.0j1.1.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..0.0.0.mgh48HwXjIU

    Abdul Jalilu Bey

the only thing i found on the web with this name is in Len Kunstadt's account of the '72 ann arbor festival https://archive.org/stream/RecordResearch119_20/RR119_20_djvu.txt ARCHIE SHEPP ENSEMBLE: Shepp, reeds; Abdul Bey, tenor sax; Charles Greenless, trombone; David Burrell, piano; Jimmy Garrison, bass and Beave Harris, drums. and i have a handwritten note: "abdul jalilu bey _tat sx". on this note, bey could be "bry".

anyone ever heard of this tenor saxophonist? he played at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival with Archie Shepp in 1972. the name may be very misspelled.
  4. or maybe ellingtonia is insinuating that on the mosaic box, take C is the same as take A. i haven't compared these two.
  5. fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier arranged for string quartet
  6. i started comparing the two versions at the beginning of the trumpet solo, and within the first 30-45 seconds of that comparison, i heard at least 3 differences. sound quality and variance in speed can make things sound different. ellingtonia.com does have mistakes. maybe the neatwork cd has a 4th version.
  7. here are my tracks 21 and 22. does the trumpet solo sound the same on these to you? 21 http://picosong.com/xGk5 22 http://picosong.com/xGkg
  8. these are not the same. compare the trumpet solo starting at 1:27. if yours are the same, then maybe you have an early pressing before they fixed the mistake. they are both 3:06.
  9. i wonder who'll be the first to admit that the 1969 material is absolute junk. i haven't heard the '68.
  10. i don't understand why none of the duke researchers have taken over Sjef's duties. it was extremely useful to get a quarterly update about new releases and discoveries.
