i don't think that it's lee morgan on this tape. but i'd say that it's the jazz messengers because the ending of blue 'n boogie has: 'ny theme', which in turn ends with a couple of notes of dance of the infidels. and that's how the messengers usually ended 'ny theme', at least circa 1958/1959. on this recording, only the sax plays dance of the infidels, so maybe the trumpeter is not too familiar with the messengers' book yet. the trumpeter sounds pretty weak compared to morgan's usual playing in this time frame, most noticeably on confirmation. confirmation http://picosong.com/HHhm ending of blue 'n boogie - ny theme http://picosong.com/HHKG

Clint Eastwood - By Some Definitions, No Longer Dead!

he's been dead to me since billion dollar baby. -
the only unissued studio session that i see for 1959 monk in the sheridan discography is soundtrack to the film “Les Liaisons Dangereuses”. Parts of these tunes can be heard in the film. July 27, 1959 Nola Studios, New York Thelonious Monk Quintet Personnel: Charlie Rouse, Bernard “Barney” Wilen (ts); Thelonious Monk (p); Sam Jones (b); Arthur Taylor (d). Monk’s Mood Crepuscule with Nellie Off Minor Let’s Cool One Let’s Cool One Rhythm-a-ning Epistrophy Epistrophy Pannonica Pannonica Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues Are Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues Are We’ll Understand it Better By and By Untitled blues (p-solo) Epistrophy Epistrophy the coltrane discographers have gone through the Radio France archives tapes. they didn't have much new material to report from these in the jc reference book. maybe an hour or possibly two hours at the most from 62 and 63 paris. and most of that is in circulation. maybe the article is talking about sonny rollins.

and the photo is obviously from 1962. above his eye you can see the small scar that he got while in a knife fight outside of shelly's manne-hole on xmas 1961.

the last volume of this release (palm 21) https://www.discogs.com/Jef-Gilson-Anthology-Jef-Gilson-19451975/release/7992472 The Meeting Time: Bobby Jaspar / Byard Lancaster (palm 21) G1 Et-Monk G2 Fast Fasts G3 Hot-Time H1 Modo Azul H2 Quiproquo H3 Love Always (later added to byard lancaster's 'mother africa' release) what are the writing credits, and is it the same musicians on all of the above tracks (except for H3 which was recorded at the 'mother africa' session). i missed this when collecting byard, thinking that it was unissued. the above tune titles don't look like his. so probably very free jazz, rather than one of many examples of melodic music for which byard is known?

i think that it sounds like a small club recording. maybe it was not a scheduled gig.
-
The unknown recording circulates on the end of the Copenhagen aka dusseldorff recording. The unknown recording is different sound quality from the Copenhagen aka dusseldorff recording. >>So it has been established that the subsequent tracks definitely are not 1959?>> I don't think anything has been established about the unknown recording. The problem with completely dismissing the unknown recording is because when a u.s. group tours large venues in europe, and during this tour they play some small night club gigs too, then the nightclub gigs would not necessarily include the usual tunes that they perform in the large venues.

here's a better chronology for you http://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/leemorgan_chronology.pdf but the chronology is not the issue here. the issue is the unknown recording, and whether it is blakey messengers with lee morgan. that recording is totally separate from the 'copenhagen' concert.

the first 4 tracks of the cd on dime are what's known as "KB-Hallen", Copenhagen, Denmark, November 5, 1959. on this cd the above is listed as 11/18/59 dusseldorf. the rest of the cd is the mystery tape "11/19/59 dusseldorf". for chronology and releases see http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Artists/Blakey/chron.htm www.press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472115020-Discography.pdf which is pretty much the same as the info on jazzdiscog we know that November 5, 1959 is probably not a correct date, but it could still be copenhagen. >>Defintely not Shorter on these tracks. >>> 2 people say that it doesn't sound like blakey. based on the track list, maybe it's horace silver group. or blakey from circa 1955. i found the email for the guy who wrote the lee morgan book. maybe he knows something about this tape.

this forum doesn't allow that, but this item is on dime right now.

and i'm told that these timings are reversed > Yacht Club Swing / Hold My Hand: old version 3:39, new version 4:31>> it should say old version 4.31, new version 3.39
-
i've seen that, but it doesn't really help. and neither does this lee morgan discography www.press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472115020-Discography.pdf a couple of those tunes were played by blakey circa 1955/1956 when horace silver was in the band (without morgan). maybe this is from that time period.
-
yes, the timings remained the same on itunes. i haven't downloaded either the old or the new version, but i know the answer about > Yacht Club Swing / Hold My Hand: old version 3:39, new version 4:31>> the ending of the old version has the beginning of the following track ("I Haven’t Changed A Thing" ), and that's why it is longer.

Supposedly: Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers Nov 19, 1959 Dusseldorf aka Nov 20, 1959 Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter Walter Davis JR.- Piano, Jymie Merrit- Bass If authentic, then probably a nightclub show. 40min 1. Prince Albert 4min 2. Confirmation 7min 3. Ecaroh 4min 4. Blue 'n boogie 22min 5. Midnight Sun 5min audience recording i don't see it in any discographies. last 2min of trumpet solo, and 1st 2min of sax solo from Blue 'n boogie http://picosong.com/HX6j/

beatles covers never work in a jazz setting. that duke photo is probably from newport jazz fest nyc 1971-73. and it looks like he has his fingers on the keys of the trumpet - was/is playing it.

what's this all about?

are the new versions different from the old ones?

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

"four top New York session players" according to a rock music listener. "...first time I heard it when I was first given a copy. Which was very upsetting because I really wanted to hear it." most of that version with overdubbed horns was issued about 25 years ago on LIVE AND UNRELEASED 1989 and on LIFELINES: THE JIMI HENDRIX STORY 1990 i guess it wasn't upsetting enough for him to actually seek it out.

could try: disable your old adblocker if you now have Adblock Plus. go to allmusic site, and close your browser. repeat this several times. for some reason it took me a couple or several visits to allmusic for that site to see that i no longer had adblocker engaged on its' site.
