  1. no other major treasure trove besides the west end?
  2. i searched for these people, ... nothing that looked intersting came up in the results. like concerts, interviews. thanks looking at this rtr link, it's 316 entries, with barely any description in the title of each entry. https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/catalog?f[collection_id_is][]=2137&f[description_source_search_facet_sms][]=Reel-to-reel&q=&search_field=all_fields&search_type=advance&sort=title_ss+asc
  3. crossposting, because it could be important >>could you please tell us how to search that archive. i removed the 'rtr' speculation, and searched for like 10 people, and barely got any good hits. thanks
  4. could you please tell us how to search that archive. i removed the 'rtr' speculation, and searched for like 10 people, and barely got any hits. where is all the good stuff? thanks
  5. here's that showler documentary about teagarden, pretty hidden on youtube
  6. the only palm thing i know about is 'lovingkindness' unissued extracts. "was intended for palm 14 but not released". 35 minutes. work and pray raw mix work and pray different version. same guitar(?) rib crib I mix, with added instruments, and some instruments missing. rib crib II raw mix so really, just the 2nd item is new. but they (palm) must have more. or maybe it's all lost after all these years.
  7. still, it would've been nice if there was new material on this box. byard fans already have all this previously issued stuff.
  8. what year/city? the obvious choices would be these 2. but it doesn't seem that they are the ones. May 1, 1973 Civic Auditorium - Santa Monica, CA Miles Davis Tentet May 2, 1973 Ahmanson Theatre - Los Angeles, CA Miles Davis Tentet https://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Sessions.aspx?d=7
  9. this seems to be one of the very few times, and best examples, of a serious jazz researcher letting a video camera into their music/research room. a 2min interview with joe showler, a jack teagarden researcher in canada. he has it down to knowing where teagarden was touring 75% of the time. and also to being able to open any newspaper microfilm, and find teagarded tour info. Alan Zweig's VINYL documentary 2000
  10. no. zoning out to this stuff is actually very easy to do.
  11. no, not seriously. it's just an expression.
  12. for those who have the waller chronological classics cds, and the network label alternate takes, these are the new items that were on the jsp set. not too bad, for new material.
  13. miles davis solo spotlights from all known live versions of "IFE" 1972-75. 54 live versions. 6.5 hours of miles IFE solos in chronological order. https://archive.org/details/750503-boston_202407 let us all meditate on this.
  14. in a sense, the dancers were pretty much just extras in a tv show. none of the discographies refer to this as a dance date. i tried to argue the point myself, at one time. but the discographies are correct.
  15. video 65 01 12 CHICAGO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ND6502 "BigBandSounds" duke discographies don't consider this to be a dance date. something to do with it all being 'staged' for the tv program. the only dance date video footage is like 30 seconds from erie, pa. 1973, from an obscure french documentary.
  16. even if the author of that article doesn't have them, he, and we, would be remiss not to mention all the unissued recorded duke dance dates listed at tdwaw (the duke where and when), and at https://ellingtonia.com/discography/ the 68-73 is where it's all happening. notice that it's almost entirely u.s. shows. a couple of the very early shows listed here, are (or used to be) available for members at https://ellingtongalaxy.org/ albuquerque, nm (dance date) 3/22/1953 seattle (dance date) 5/1/1954 mentor, mn (dance date) Jun-54 portland (dance date) 11/13/1954 portland (dance date) 6/11/1955 chicago (dance date) 11/10/1957 sacramento (dance date, complete) 3/5/1958 chicago (dance date) 8/20/1961 houston (dance date) 9/7/1961 washington d.c. 17. or it could be snuff rather than coke. i wonder which of those 2 things it could possibly be... it's a tough decision.
  18. the thing is, we've all heard of jimmy cliff 'the harder they come'. but i've not heard of rockers until now. and it's a much better/more real jamaican movie. i bet it's their favorite 70's.
  19. i ran into this on firestick a couple of months ago. the local jamaican lingo is amazing. this may be the only movie (at least on firestick) that has a 2nd set of subtitles explaining the original subtitles. both subs are needed, and still are not enough to make it clear as to exactly what they're saying. looked for other jamaican 70's movies besides this, and the well known jimmy cliff 'the harder they come'. the only thing i could find is the seemingly silly 'Smile Orange' (1976). and that's it. 3 jamaican movies from the 70's.
